Re: Weston city park

Oswald nodded, smiliing, "You need, at the least, a functional knowledge of how magic works. Fortunately, I've taken on an apprentice recently. I believe you know Iris' friend Chuck? Well, the boy has some amount of magical potential. Fortunately, Ozzy noticed it before it was too late. The poor boy was headed for disaster, but he should be all right once I start teaching him to control his power. Thankfully, it's been going off on its own to let off the excess energy, and the boy's wishes seem to involve getting his favorite foods, mostly.

However, it does involve a bit of reading. I warn you, we wizards invented speed-reading for a reason. Fortunately, you won't be getting into the really thick stuff for a while. But, I believe you need your first lesson now, something every wizard hears at one point or another: You are not a monster. Just because you've got the potential to do some very bad things, doesn't mean you have to do them. Having magic is a bit like owning a gun. While certain people use it to do very bad things with it, there are others who choose to use their gifts for good. The magic itself, barring actual demon magic, is not evil. All that matters is whose hands the magic is in."

"Where does the potential for cruelty end, and necessity begin? I'm totally dependent on these people for something I need to just to stay alive, and functioning completely in the dark as to what my spells were designed to do. If Washington Speaks could decieve you into thinking it was a good luck charm, how can I be certain that my spells aren't all 'actual demon magic', as you put it, similarly disguised and hidden from detection?"

Re: Weston city park

Oswald sighed, "That is a point. While normally a demon mage needs a focus, that could possibly have been built into your new body. Unfortunately, it seems that whoever built your new body seems to have thought of everything. But, there are a few simple things we can try, in order to see what your nature is. And, one way or another, I do recommend that you at least learn about how magic works. We should also try and let you practice your spells, so that way you don't select something blindly in a dangerous situation and get somebody hurt. What're your thoughts on that?"

"I agree, I do need to learn what I'm doing, why you do or don't do various things, get a little idea of how this... android body, works and what I might need to do to take care of it.

I suppose that I could try casting around 3-5 minor spells a day, for practice. More, if I knew certain clowns would be, err, working that day. Unfortunately, I don't know what kind of schedules they operate on."

"Sounds very reasonable. I do hope I can teach you not to rely on these... clowns so much. What time would be best for you to start these lessons? Sometime after school gets out every day, of course," said Mr. Gysbourne.

"The sooner the better. I'm not sure if there's a specific time each day that would work best; it may have to be arranged on a variable schedule. Possibly in the evenings?" Rodger said, considering the various activities that he was already commited to.

Re: Weston city park

A flash of deep forest green in the distant sky made Rodger glance towards it. Unnaturally colored lightning was coming down, something he'd only seen before from one of his own spells, Ancient Spirits of Evil. Now that was odd. And a bit worrisome.

Oswald nodded, before following Rodger's gaze towards the flash in the sky.

"Hrm... interesting. Well, as you've said, we can work something out. Let me know when is best for you. As I've said, I own my own law firm. I can more or less do as I please, unless we get a very important case."

"I'll definitely keep in touch. Hmm, should I start on some kind of reading material on my own time, before meeting for actual lessons? And would having lessons at the same time as Chuck does be likely to work out better for both us or not?"

"Yes, I believe that a little something would be beneficial. And you having lessons along with Chuck would definitely be good, I believe. Here, take this, read as much as you can," said Mr. Gysbourne, pulling a book literally out of thin air and handing it to Rodger. The title was 'Magic 101: So you Want to be a Wizard...'

Re: Weston city park

Rodger accepted the book, took one look at the title, and quirked an eyebrow. Real wizardry textbooks sounded like something you'd find in the humor section? Well, that was certainly unexpected... but it didn't keep him from taking his upcoming lessons seriously.

Oswald chuckled at Rodger's reaction to the book.

"I see you've noticed the title. Let's just say that, in this modern era, we've discovered that the best way to conceal the truth is to make the truth look so ridiculous that no one will believe it."

"Hmm... I like that idea." Rodger said with a grin. "Rather like how nobody would believe that Mayor Boyd is inflatable, without a lot of proof."

Jeff walked hand in hand with Candy.

"Here we are....the River Walk...." he said as he gestured towards it. It was a nice long walkway along the river that passed through Weston.

All Jeff could do was smile as he started to walk along the walkway. The bright lights of the Weston City skyline in the background, easily visible.

That comment from Candy received a grin from Jeff as they walked along. He then pointed to a bench that they could sit at, and see both the skyline of Weston and the river.

"Wanna have a seat for a moment?"
