Fancy Party
Just seconds ago, Wraith was feeling a rush. It was similar to when he fought the mummies back at the museum, but somehow scarier. Fighting undead, while scary, felt more like fighting a moving target. These were people. Thinking, feeling people. A zombie might swing at you or bite at you to kill you. But people can come up with all kinds of inventive ways to kill you. And let's face it; zombies generally don't carry machine-guns.
But there are several things going on that are more important to Wraith than his fear. His reputation, for one. What would people think of the so-called Wraith if he froze in fear in the face of some gang of thugs.
And even if people were understanding and said things like "well of course he was scared, it was a group of professionals with machine guns", there is his teacher. What would he think? After all the lessons Wraith has gotten from the guy... Wraith just couldn't let him down.
But the most important of all to Wraith is his own conviction. If Wraith allowed a little thing like fear slow him down, then what will he do with himself? How would he even feel about himself? If he shrank after taking down a boss, would he be able to look his loved ones in the eye anymore?
But all that training proves itself as Wraith takes down the boss. Taking out the boss has a huge impact on Wraith. It gives him a confidence that wasn't there just seconds ago. Confidence that if he could take out the boss, he could take out anyone else in this little group.
Then he realizes he already took the first step a while back when he fired a dart. When he stalked the enemy. When he took the portal. Why would he be afraid now? Was it that the danger didn't really sink in until he was up close and personal with these machine-gun-toting villains?
Whatever the reason was before, Wraith feels his fear slip away like unlocked shackles falling to the floor. A calm washes over him and he slinks off to the guy with the geo-powers. He goes for another take-down, using pretty much the same technique. May as well; it worked just moments ago and nobody saw him do it.
