Re: Derring condominiums two
Iris floated in, triggering her hoverboard to collapse into its laptop size beneath her something like a Jetson's car. She grinned at Machinesmith, "Really? Oh, I've got ideas already, and theories and drawings. I'd have to create some of the materials from scratch, you know, but I thought eventually I could get enough chemicals and stuff from the junkyard that I could build it out under the Foster Home. Not a chance of that now, but..." She pulled a laptop from her backpack and, thanking Meg for the food, began pulling things up and eating a huge serving of casserole simultaneously, "See, it's underground. I have some plans for an underwater base, but that's going to take a LOT of research on pressure resistant, shatter-resistant materials since ideally it'd be clear. But the base that is actually viable right now, the plans I have are for an underground base." Iris ignored the voting going on behind her, scrolling through as blueprints and plans flashed on the screen, "I thought it'd be easier to build down since, you know, there's not much more room up. Besides, down makes it harder to pregnate and opens up all sorts of other options. Chuck has filled me in on all the appropriate comic-book base-invasions, so I have some idea, however fictional, of what I'm up against." An image of the city with lines running through it looking like a spider-webbed subway system flashed past just before she pulled up the plans she had. Like all her plans, they were rough and covered in mathematical calculations and strange notes, "The floorplans aren't that important, so much as the material you make them of. I have been theorizing about a strong uber-jello-type material that will absorb the effect of movement - kind of like those foam beds, except more sturdy and good for walls. It's for training, you see, because normal walls can be hurt by throwing someone into them, not to mention the someone. That's what these sketches are for, by the way." Iris flicked her mouse to another page, "For the medical space. I don't want to be a doctor, but one thing I've learned is that human physiology isn't drastically different from person to person. This isn't even really an idea yet, since I know that I need a LOT more physiology and biology training to realize this, but I think it is plausible to build something that would at least stabalize somebody for long enough to, say, fetch Meg." She scrolled back to the figures about the walls, "I haven't got the chemicals to test my theories about this material, but if it works it'd be soft enough to have some give and flexible enough to repel damage from collision or earthquakes. Also, if my theory is right, we could plant TVs on the other side and use the wall as a TV screen for some killer gaming sessions. Chuck asked me to make a holodeck; I'm not sure how that would work without plugging directly into neural synapses, but if you have four walls, a ceiling, and a tread-floor of this material, you could simulate it. Of course, it would be more like the television room from Farenheit 491 than the actual holodeck, but I'm pretty good at robotics. I could probably build some robots with limited capabilities. This is really great, Meg, thanks!" She looked over towards Machinesmith quizically, reminding him gently, "I've spent most of my life closed up in one place or other. I had to amuse myself with something. I can think of worse thinks to design. In fact, I've designed some of them. But Dr. Therrin took them from me. He said that they belonged to the program. I don't know why he would want them, since he's not even involved in the super research program. He designs stuff for the military and yells at me to stay out of his office."
