She shrugs. "It was one of many excuses for laying hands on me but it was the one that sent him over the edge."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Mirage replied genuinely.  She hated the thought of any adult, man or woman, beating their own child to near death.  "But you must know that if you keep following this path, your message will be takne as the ramblings of fanatics.  I can help if you just let me go."

"And why should I believe you? Everyone knows Politicians'll say anything to save their own skin. How do I know this isn't a trick?"

"The same way that I'm trusting you not to kill me.  Trust works both ways, Bonez." Mirage replied.  She wasn't at all concerned about being killed.  She felt confident that she could handle Bonez if it came to a fight, but there was something else going on here that might be more important than driving her high heel into someone.

"If Para's are being oppressed, why haven't you gone to the Legacy or the New Age Defenders?  Surely they would be able to help you."

Bonez snorted at the mention of the legacy. "Those tools are only concerned with looking pretty for the cameras stopping hte kind of stuff that makes the news.  NOt to mention they're all into the whole registration thing which is just a precursor to all of us getting round up."

"I can't argue with you on the registration bit." Mirage replied.  It was fine that the others had wanted to register to give them some semblence of legitimacy but Mirage didn't care for such things.

"The Legacy and the NADs are trying to put a positive face on the para population.  How do you think you'll be viewed?  Revolutionaries? Heroes?  Terrorists?"

"Your cause sounds justified and I'd like to hear more about what your groups goals are and how you plan to attain them, but I don't think that you're going about it the right way.  Kidnapping me is not going to look good and this will bring down the authorities on you."

"And just what is it that you are going to demand with my life?"

Bonez moved over to the door. "Thats enough out of you, I told you I'd follow him to hell and back I have faith in his vision."

Mirage appeared in the NPA headquarters with a plume of crimson smoke.  Luckily for her, they hadn't moved to a different location.  Hunter, Dragon Fist and her were supposed to go after The Builder today, but Mirage wanted to see if the NPA had heard anything and warn them about the maniac who liked to cut up paras.  Their methods might be harsh at times but they were trying to look out for the para population.

"Where is Rehab?  Tell him that Mirage wishes to speak with him about some para business."

One of the guards nodded running off, Minutes later Rehab entered silently flanked by a large man with one eye and Bonez. "Mirage how good to see you again, I would like to personally apologize for Fatalisms attack on your comrade, I assure you it was not done under my sanction. She has been punished with 2 weeks kitchen duty"

"Thank you for that, Rehab.  It's nice to see you again, and Bonez." Mirage said, looking over the large one eyed man.  She didn't know him and that made her suspicious of him.

"I have some information for you.  There's a man called The Builder back in the city.  Apparently he's chasing after two Paras named Seer and Rebound who managed to escape him.  Builder has this hobby of kidnapping paras and cutting them up to find out what makes them tick.  We're looking into stopping him but I wanted you to be aware that this monster is in town, so that you can get out a warning."

"Hopefully no paras have gone missing."

Rehabs expression turned downright dangerous. "That is terrible, we can offer the two of them sanctuary if you'd like. I have heard of some, mostly off the streets there are more homeless parahumans than the government would like to admit. We take in who we can but our room and funds are not what we'd like them to be. I could offer you some of my troops if you'd like them, I could even offer one of my lieutenants, Fatalism could use the chance to redeem herself but I'd understand if you'd prefer someone else"

"I appreciate the offer but I think that we're good for the moment.  If we need any assistance, I'll give you a call.  I'm sure that you're as eager as I am to get rid of this guy so maybe we can team up to take him down once we find him." Mirage smiled a very predatory smile.  She was pretty sure that Rehab would enjoy pounding a fist into Builder just as much as she would.

"For now, keep your ears to the ground.  We don't know the extent of what Builder has been up to and he may have already started gathering up a small army of thugs to kidnap paras for him."

Rehab nods. "Let me know if you do, my doors are always open and this man sounds dangerous. I will keep an ear out and if I receive any information to his whereabouts I will pass it along."

"Thank you, Darling.  I'll let you know if anything changes."

Mirage looked over at Rehabs bodyguards, particularily the unknown large man.  "I don't beleive that we've met.  Can you introduce us, Rehab?"

Rehab nodded. "This is Visionary, in addition to the obvious his mutation involves a number of vision based powers  including an optic blast. He tangled with The Hunter a while back and Visionary was shown why he is called the most dangerous man alive."

"You fought with Hunter and managed to come out in one piece?  Impressive." Mirage said.  She suspected that Hunter must have gone easy on Visionary or Visionary would be in a hospital or worse.

She turned back to Rehab.  "We'll be in touch, darling."

Mirage disappeared in a puff of crimson smoke.

Mirage reappeared in one of the rooms of the NPA's secret base.  It was a base that she knew fairly well, having spent some time here with its occupants.

"I'm looking for Rehab.  Is he around?" she asked the first person that she came across.

"You need only to ask for me...though I wasn't expecting to see you again," Rehab said, almost as in an immediate answer to Mirage's question.

"It must be pretty important to just wisk in here without an invitation. What do you want?"

"I wouldn't have to wisk in here without an invitation if you invited me in more often." Mirage said with a small smile.  She knew that he had every right to be perturbed at her presence.  This was supposed to be the NPA's secret sanctum, the one place where they could feel safe and protected, and Mirage just appeared in the middle of it with little regard for how they might feel about that.

They'd get over it, she decided.  It wasn't as if anyone was going to tell her where to go and where not to go.

"I'm looking for any leads on a nasty piece of work calling himself Builder.  He likes to take apart young paras in the most inhospitable way.  You have very good ears and eyes on the streets and I wanted to see if you'd heard anything."

  Rehab nodded, and said quietly "You are right, that IS something very important.  We cannot have young parahumans being treated like lab rats and vivisected."

"Well put, Rehab.  Now have you heard anything?  Anything that could help us find this villain?" Mirage asked with a friendly smile.

Her mobile buzzed and Mirage picked it up while waiting for Rehab to reply.  It's message turned her smile into a frown.  Katy.  Psy-Witch.  At the dojo with Lucas.  She did not like this one bit.

  He said thoughtfully "Perhaps.  Let me check with my sources, if you don't mind waiting a couple hours, I can get back to you?"

Mirages fingers tightened around her phone as her expression hardened.

"I'll be back in a couple of hours." she said, before vanishing in a cloud of crimson smoke.

  Rehab nodded, and then put his people to work, digging for information.  Which, when Mirage got back, he would give to her.

The Npa base was a flurry of activity. Their numbers had swelled since the news had broke and everyone was doing something. It looked like they were preparing for war.
