"Now, let's talk some more about what this Builder was doing.  Has he already been performing these terrible acts on paras?  Do you have any idea where he might be?"

  Seer tilted her head, and said softly "I don't remember everything.  I don't remember a lot.  Rebound says it is probably better that way."  She moved her head, clearly tracking Mirage by sound, not sight, as her eyes flicked this way and that without seeing anything at all.

"As far as we know he went to jail after the New age Defenders took him down. We heard he got out but we've yet to run into him. NOt sure where he is now but... people will start dissapearing soon. He can't help himself he's addicted to cutting people up to see how they work."

"Really now, cutting people up just to see how they work." Mirage said.  "We will find him and he'll be sorry that we did.  We can check with the NPA to see if they've heard anything.  Otherwise we may just have to go and roust some bars until we find something out."

Rebound warapped a gentle arm around Seers shoulders. "We appreciate teh help and as much as I'd like to pu the hurt on him some more...we need to focus on getting our lives back.

  Seer leaned against Rebound, and glanced toward Dragon Fist, although she couldn't seem to pin him precisely, her eyes seemingly unable to focus on him.  She didn't go far, he'd noticed, without Rebound right there with her.

Mirage was fuming.  She looked at the cuts that Rebound showed them and it made her really want to hurt someone, and she knew just who.  The pair of kids, Seer and Rebound, reminded her of herself not that long again.  Which meant that this problem with Builder had become personal.

"You two stay here for now.  It's safe and the Defenders should be back sometime soon." She said, reaching out to put a hand on Seers shoulder and Rebounds arm.  "After that we'll see about getting you some place where you can start over.  You are safe now and anyone that dares to touch you again will have to answer to Dragon Fist and I."

Perhaps it was due to her inexperience with her new abilities but Mirage found herself reaching out to touch the minds of both Seer and Rebound.  She wanted to know what their new enemy looked like and seeing what the villain had done to them.

Dragon Fist nodded in acknowledgement to Mirage's comment. This Builder had forced his craft on these two innocent kids. To Dragon Fist, it was the same as if he had done that to one of the kids at his dojo.

"This Builder has much to answer for. Take a rest...this place is well protected."

Dragon Fist's eyes on his helmet began to glow briefly, as he looked over their chi signatures.

  Mirage found that Seer couldn't show her what Builder looked like.  She was totally blind now.  She hadn't always been, she knew that, but she couldn't remember it.  She couldn't really remember ANYTHING before the Builder's lab, except butterflies, and that was a faint, treasured memory that was faded like an old photograph.

Jack's memories of the Builder were filled with rage his high pitched giggle whenever he cut into them his tufts of graying hair wanting to pull them out all at once wanting to smash his horn rimmed glasses. He nodded at Dragon Fist and Mirage. "All right we'll stay here until they show up."

  She leaned into Rebound's chest, although gently, and said softly "Them."  And the names came to Mirage, silently.  As she'd picked them out of the men's heads as they'd done what they pleased to her.  But that didn't make it hurt any less, and she seemed very embarrassed as tears began to slide down her cheeks.

These two young people reminded Dragon Fist of the kids at the dojo where he taught. Someone had already tried to hassle them, a situation he dealt with himself. But now someone had done something FAR worse to them. Though he didn't know the deed...he knew enough to know that the scars were deep.

Dragon Fist clenched his fists for a moment.

"We will protect you....and we will avenge you.." he said, the determination very evident in his voice. Whoever was responsible was going to pay.

Mirage had names and faces, many faces.  She committed each one to memory, adding them to a mental list of people who deserved to be savaged.

She gave Seer a small hug, something that might be out of chracter for her but Seers tale had both touched and angered her.  "It will be okay, Sweetie.  You two are safe now.  Dragon Fist and I will look after you, and no one will do those things to you ever again."

"You stay here.  We'll be back in a little while.  Call us if you need anything."  Mirage turned and walked towards Dragon Fist.  "We have work to do.  I suggest giving some names of people that we should talk to to Jordans group to track down for us.  We should also check with the NPA and see if they've heard anything."

Looking over at Dragon Fist and Mirage while still holding Penny he said.   She blushed, and hugged him a bit harder.  She said softly "Thank you."  She wished she could forget.  But some things never went away.  She just hugged Rebound all the closer, letting his warmth, his solid protectiveness soak into her like a soothing balm to her wounded heart.

  "I think.  Find me a spot to sit or curl up, though.  I don't know where all the furniture is yet."  She could easily run into walls or furniture if she tried to move around in here yet, so if he found her a spot to sit or curl up, she'd be okay until he got back.

Fade back in.

Having thoroughly cleaned and, handled himself, he dressed into one of the changes of clothes they got from the shelter quickly dressing he headed back to where he left Penny.

  She slid out of her clothing, not thinking about it.  Then headed into the shower, washing herself and her hair thoroughly.  And when she was done, she patted around and found the towels, then wrapped them around herself as she called for Jack.  "Jack?  Can you help me make sure I don't look awful please??"

Jack had been in the center room just exploring the general area. When he heard Penny he came as quick as possible without seeming overeager. "Sure just let me check." He did his best to avoid looking at her in a towel but it was hard. He soon had an old faded pair of Jeans and a butterfly T-shirt he had gotten for her. He handed both to her before turning his back moving to leave the room so she could change.

  She curled up against him, her head pillowed gently on his chest, and she said softly "You keep the nightmares away."  Settling down, cuddling, feeling safe in his arms.  She drifted into sleep with one of his hands clasped in her own.

She then began to walk slowly and stealthfully into the HQ. She then cast a spell, and an ethereal eye appeared that seemed to look all throughout for whoever was there.

  That ethereal eye found Seer and Rebound, curled up like a pair of kittens, asleep in one of the bedrooms.  Their posture, even in sleep, one of two lost souls drawing comfort in one another, and definitely not being threatening.

Jack turned gently shaking Penny awake.  He knew if he got up her dreams would go bad. "I would say I am, I'm Jack Pride, Though I go by Rebound during extracuriculars. This is Penny she also goes by Seer." HE stood looking the two  fo them over. "YOu were the demony guy right? You have gotten older, how did that happen?"

He nods at her, though no one else heard anything. He looked up at the others clearing his throat before he spoke. "I guess I'll start with my story. My power is the creation of what smarter people than me have called, an impact field which absorbs and redirects kinetic energy, once this power manifested I started heroing in my hometown of philadelphia which is when I came under the eye of the Builder his robots jumped me and he kept me hostage doped up to my eyeballs with adevice that shocked me everytime I used my powers. She was in the next cell she had no memories except for a faint memory of butterflies. We talked a long time till some guards came to take her away I screamed my throat raw and pulled at the door but it wouldn't budge. When she came back she was sobbing, Eventually she opened up and told me the guards had.....used her. That was when I vowed I would get us out of there. She managed to call one of the guards to us and I beat him sensless and we ran like mad. When we got home...my mother was dead her heart on the mantle. Thats when we tracked him down and met you guys."

  Meg answered Iris as they pulled into the HQ.  "I was born with active regen and my senses have NEVER operated at a level equivalent to a normal human's.  It took me years to figure out what I should and should not be mentioning to people, just because I could sense it, so why would they not?  That's why I didn't go to public school, Mom homeschooled me.  I still tend to err on the side of caution with regards to what I can perceive about people from their scents and listening to them.  I can tell when they lie from changes in their pheromones and the differences in their heartbeat.  I can tell moods by scent, a lot of things that people really don't seem to realize."

  Meg let the energies flow until they had nothing else to heal, then she took her hand away.  She told him quietly "I hope you didn't have any scars you wanted to keep, because they're all gone now.  ALL of them."  Then she looked at Penny, and said "Your turn."  Then carefully reached out, and caught Penny's hand.  Letting the healing energies flow through her and into Penny.

As Penny's mind brushed agains the Mages Gysboures', she would feel a sort of 'wall' around each mind, a wall of discipline and willpower. Running across Ozzy's wall was like touching brick and mortar, and Grandpa Gysbourne's felt what might be odd to her, like what the hard, cold stone of a castle wall might feel like. Unless she actively tried to knock on either 'wall', neither of them would respond.

Ozzy smirked and replied, "Of course, dude! Joke pizzas need anchovies. It's a good rule of thumb. The grosser the pizza, the better the joke. Well, of course, unless you get to the whole 'how the hell are they open' extremes, like actual garbage or whatever. It has to be what's commonly thought of as edible."

Now that the treatments were done, Ozzy turned to the newcomers, grinning broadly and saying, "Hey! 'Sup? I'm Ozzy, or as you probably know me, Painter. So, Builder's back in town, eh? No surprise there, that jackass Shade probably let him out when he let all the other para criminals out. Still, we got him once, we can get him again, yeah? Maybe we can even keep him there this time, assuming the government doesn't try to give him a job."

Oswald also stepped forward, bowing slightly as he introduced himself to Seer and Rebound as well as Candy.

JAck watched the exchange between Penny and Meg a little confused but said nothing. When Painter started talking he approached and held out his hand for a shake. "I'm Jack, or Rebound, She's Penny, or Seer. Yeah from what we hear he's back on the streets Mirage and Dragon Fist are currently on the case, but we're less concerned about fighting him and more about getting our lives back. We can't go home, even if there was something out there for us. My mothers dead and I have no other relatives she doesn't even remember her family. We couldn't let them put us in Foster care, as they might try and separate us."

It was at that point that Oswald smiled and said, "I may be able to help you in that regard, young man. Here, my card."

He then handed Jack a business card, but not before writing his personal cell number and address on the back.

"I helped found one of the bigger law firms in Weston, so I can most certainly help you get around the red tape of getting you back on your feet. I'll need to get in touch with one of my social worker friends, see if I can't get you both a meeting with her. You look old enough to hold down a job, and if you're not quite eighteen, you could easily apply for emancipated status and other such things."

She marched them around to the others in case they were hungry, "Why's everybody being so weird?" She asked, "You all look so serious. Look, everybody's better now, right? Iris smiled, "No problem." She told Penny. She was curious as to why the Builder had her; Iris' last assumption had been that the Builder had been collecting kids from the facility, but Iris wasn't sure if Penny had been there or not. She squinted up at her, dying to ask her about what happened to cause the nightmares. To wake up screaming? That had to be something traumatic. Iris considered transferring to Psychology 101 next semester.

Ozzy nodded silently in agreement, though since he came from a family of means, he didn't exactly know anything about that. He'd only seen it as he skated through the streets of Weston, looking for places to put up his 'urban artwork'.

Until, that is, he had something of an idea.

"Hey, we're having something of a sleepover tonight, right? Guys, why don't you come? Even if we're out of rooms, we've got a cot and stuff. I can give up my bed for the night, no probs. There'll be food, and it may help you guys out if you can get your mind off of stuff for a night. Whattaya say? And hey, the more the merrier, right?"

  Penny leaned her head on Jack's chest, and listened quietly.  She knew he'd stick with her while she talked to Fluid and Ex.  After all, he always made sure she wasn't going to bang into things when walking around in strange places.  She didn't know how to use a blind-cane, and her tick-sonar only worked well on walls and such that weren't shin-level.

"Look....this isn't gonna happen overnight. This will take time. But it's time that is worth it. And deep down, she knows that you care for her immensely. You guys need each other, especially now more than ever. We believe in you guys...now it's time you started believing in yourselves.."

Jeff wasn't sure where this strength came from. Inspirational speeches like this were much better coming from someone in the Legacy, like Dragon Fist or Hunter. But neither of them weren't around. But Jeff was...hopefully that was all that they needed.

Vaan barely had time to make even a feeble attempt to catch herself before Meg rocketed into the sky. Vaan slowly closed her eyes, before she knew it, she was being gently laid down. Her body was beginning to relax after what seemed like a week on pure adrenaline, and she wanted nothing more than to close her eyes and fall asleep.

Reaching out towards Meg, Vaan grabbed the girl's wrist. "What's going to happen to me?" she asked softly, "I can't go back...I can't go back....."

Vaan felt the life-energy flow into her through her hand. It burned slightly, as cuts and bruises, and probably a couple broken knuckles and various fractures healed almost instantly. She breathed sharply inward as toxins were metabolized, and slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes turned a bright shade of green, and she smiled slightly, letting her hand fall.

"I'm...better," She said, feebly attempting to sit up..and failing miserably. She was out of energy, almost completely, though she did manage to prop herself up slightly. "I should be nonexistent right now. Every time or metaphysics theory I've read tells me I should've either died when I went through, or be catapulted into nothingness."

She glanced downward, her voice soft as she spoke.

"Besides, anything's better than where I come from. Parents disappear before you're two years old, raised by a cripple who can barely function physically. The only real family I've had were Uncle Jack and Aunt Penny, and now they're gone, too..."

She was scared, and she stared at Meg, her eyes turning a deep purple. "What is this time like, at least?"

At Meg's prompting, Vaan took more energy, lifting one of her hands slowly, fingers spread out. Almost instantly, Vaan's eyes turned a solid black color, accessing the Flow and draining the fount of energy at an alarming rate. Fortunately, it only lasted a few seconds, and the energy consumed was tantamount to a starved man at a feast. The pallor in Vaan's skin livened up, and as her eyes returned to normal, she leaned upwards, resting her arms on her knees.

"I know. Mastermind.....Hunter, as you would call him, said you were perpetually young. Never really believed it until now, though." She stared at her hands. Gloved, caked in encrusted blood of a thousand opponents, and cut off at the digits. She'd been in battle almost constantly. Now, by some odd hand Fate dealt her, she could relax...maybe try to avert the future if it began that way.

"If you could help me adjust...I'd welcome it. Maybe I can do something to keep this past from becoming my present." She said, absent-mindedly taking a picture out from inside her coat. It was of Katy and Aaron Tanaka, holding each other, eyes locked, and smiling.

"No, we're not. Everyone has a choice to become a monster. Only when we cross the line, the chaos is bigger, stronger." She said, tearing her eyes from the picture in her hand and staring at Meg.

"So what now?" She asked.

  Meg smiled, and said "Did he ever tell you why I am?  See, I heal.  I regnerate, actually, and you can literally watch the damage vanish.  Even 'aging' is the body decaying, and my body doesn't.  At all.  I'll never look any older.  And I take after my Mom.  She's well over four thousand right now.  She looks a little older than I do.  Not much though.  I can heal others, like I just healed you, by making your body heal like mine does.  I will gladly help you acclimatize."  She rose, and padded to a chest where she grabbed a terrycloth robe and a couple other items out, and said "Right now, you get a hot shower and a good night's sleep.  In the morning, we can begin getting you acclimatized and set up comfortably here."

Sliding off the cot and onto her feet, Vaan unclasped the bindings that held the gloves together, slipping them off and laying them on the cot. Flexing her fingers, she began fishing out all the armaments she held on her person. two pistols, a belt of throwing knives, and a plethora of handheld armaments that could cause plenty of  damage were laid out on the cot, as well as taking off the helmet, laying it aside as it reformed to it's full size. Sure that she was completely disarmed, she shouldered out of her coat, folding it with extreme care and depositing it on the last free space of the cot as well.

Accepting the robe from Meg, Vaan made her way to one of the shower stalls. Closing the glass door behind her, she began undressing, beginning with her hand- and foot- wraps. "He mentioned it a bit," She said, turning on the shower and enjoying the warmth of the water. She felt as if months of stress were being washed away. "It's one of the reasons we launched a suicide attack to get you back. The great Megaira Kattakara, the one who was to keep the Emperor alive forever...or something like that."

She was silent for a moment or two. Then the water ceased flowing, and the curtain swished back. "Meg, what can you tell me about Lady Psyche?" She asked as she dried off, her tone inquisitive.

Vaan wrapped herself in the robe, sighing contentedly as she tied the waist-cord. She began drying her hair with the towel provided, not bothering to tidy the poorly cut fan of hair. She had never learned how. It was supposed to be manageable, so much that it wasn't a weakness to an opponent. Opening the door, she stared at Meg a moment or two, contemplating what she had said as she walked out, feeling refreshed.

"I...maybe. Yeah. Do you know what she's like?" Vaan asked, her eyes vibrantly changing shades of multiple colors.

  Meg said "I haven't really dealt with her much, she doesn't seem to think a lot of those of us who are a younger generation of heroes so far.  Here, let me give you a hand.  Your hair is all ragged, and I can at least neaten it up for you.  Comb it out, let you feel like you're a human being again, and not like a hunted animal."  She caught a little personal grooming kit, and drew forth a comb and a small pair of scissors.  She waved Vaan over, adding "Some of my team mates call me the mother hen of the team, but I can't really help myself.  I'm a healer and a nurturer by nature, so I tend to try and take good care of my team mates, and sometimes even strays they find that need a hand."

"Um....okay..." Vaan said, walking over to Meg and taking a seat, so Meg could have free reign to deal with Vaan's unattended hair. "Even so...I'd like to meet her. She disappeared when I was really little. Masterm....Hunter didn't say why." Vaan waited for Meg to begin tending her hair, halfheartedly mumbling, "Didn't have the luxury of being human."

  Meg said gently, as she began combing and neatening her hair, trimming it to an even length and trying to give it a little style as she talked.  "I can arrange a meeting for you, most certainly.  If nothing else, I can pester Hunter for it.  I'm the fix-it lady for everyone, really.  You have that opportunity now, Vaan.  You can be a human being, you can see what it feels like to live in a world where freedom is the norm, not the exception.  And take that knowledge, and make yourself stronger for knowing what you want to keep."  She finished combing the hair, and trimming it, and then offered Vaan the mirror.

"Yeah..." Vaan said dreamily, taking the mirror and looking at herself. Taking a deep breath and trying to see herself as less of a warrior, and more as a person. "It's funny, really. I've done nothing but fight to end so much suffering, and I find it before I'm even born...And I don't even know what to do now." Her hand moved to touch her hair. It didn't feel greasy or grimy, and the shampoo she'd used made it smell wonderful. A small smile touched her face.

"Um....Sure," Vaan said, "Just let me get dressed." Vaan stood up, changing into the clothes that Meg had given her before. A simple blouse and jeans, but Vaan couldn't help but feel exposed. She was used to being a face in the crowd, blending in, with an arsenal of weapons capable of dealing with just about anything or anyone.

"It would be nice," Vaan said, casting a glance back at her possessions. Granted, 95% of them were weapons, it wouldn't hurt to store them away, and when she finally got settled in, find a nice safe spot and hide them away. A hole in the ground, maybe. Vaan began rubbing her left hand. It was strange without having any sort of armor or protection.

"Okay," was Vaan's response as she began packing what little she now owned, making sure her weapons weren't chambered, and unloading the clips, as well as making sure her knives were secure in the belt. Once she was sure they were no longer dangerous, she arranged them so they were taking up as little space as possible...as big as, say, a small backpack, at least.

When Meg brought Vaan the backpack to her, she put everything in, arranging it carefully. Most were sharp and/or explosive objects, so she couldn't really afford to have anything loose. Vaan also grabbed her helmet, giving it a moments look. She wasn't in a war-zone now, so protecting herself from a bullet to the head wasn't needed, but she wasn't going to just throw it away. It was way too useful. Pressing  a panel where the forehead would be, the helmet reformed into a forearm-length glove on Vaan's left hand.

"Nano-technology. Experimental stuff," Vaan said, shouldering the backpack and looking at Meg, "...Ready?"
