Re: OOC

I had planned to start things in media res, but as we didn't have all players in place, I decided to take this route instead to give him time to catch up. So I have no problem with moving on to what happens after they've left the king, as long as you have decided what you want to do, plan, sleep, party, or whatever, as stores are closed for the night. And get back to the details of the rest of the conversation with the king later.

In regards to the information you want, whether you stay or we return to this later, the king has suggested a place to start and shared two unsolved puzzles about that place. Getting more information from the king, would either have to wait until we know who, if anyone, will accompany you on the quest; have the king answer in such a way that he could be talking about anyone and then move on with more information; or you can ask for more information, people to talk to, and the like, and get back to the other companion(s) later.

Regarding merchants, I'm sure the characters would know of some already, so names and locations could be handled OOC. As could most of the actual shopping, unless you’re looking for something special or you want to haggle.

Re: OOC

OK, let's go with a generic placeholder answer for now.  Once we have one or more wizardly types, they can be revealed as who the king was talking about.

Re: OOC

I have posted IC and the king has asked for questions. So if there is anyting your characters want to know, please ask him.

Re: OOC

Considering what has been said in this thread, I was expecting more questions IC. But if you want to move on now and go back to ask more questions later, we can do that and have two open threads. As long as I know what you want to do next.

Re: OOC

Sorry.  I took the "we are very busy" comment to mean that Olven shouldn't take up much more of the king's time.  =)

Handar, do you have anything else?

Here's what we know so far:

We've been tasked to find additional wealth to help rebuild Kalaman.
We'll be paid a salary worthy of our efforts.
The kingdom has nothing to spare in the way of equipment.
We have a map.
Another, Nathan Evardson, was also on the quest, and he resides in Palanthus.
The closest town is Turog.

We know of three puzzles:
Gems that move from pedestal to pedestal.
Hallways that appear both straight and crooked.
Door handles that grip one's hands until the door is opened.

What do we still need to know?
What other dangers existed in the Lyceum then?  Traps, monsters?
False doors and hidden passageways?
What was the Lyceum?  What was its purpose?

Anything else?

In reply to Dragondog (msg #50):

We have been talking to the king for two weeks now, I think?  Let me be honest:  I am not asking any IC questions because I am really, really tired of talking to the king.  I don't understand why the king does not simply brief us in a reasonable way instead of saying "hey, yeah, there are like, weird hallways and some weird doors and the gems i want you to get are weird, too.  OK?".

Re: OOC

The we are busy comment, was meant more as an ask questions now, because you don't know when the king can see you next to answer additional questions.

Nana, there are IC reasons why the king gives you the information he gives you in the way he gives it to you.

Re: OOC

Is the IC reason that the king is lonely and wants us to stay and ask inane questions for a really long time.

By the way, is there also an OOC reason, and is that reason that this is terrible.  (Yes.)

Re: OOC

Please tell me you didn't just set Olven on fire, Nana.  Please.

If I tell you that, will it make you feel better about the fact that I did?

I guess it wouldn't change the fact that I'm CURRENTLY ON FIRE!

Re: OOC

Well, think of it this way:  At 5d there is a reasonably good chance that you are unconscious and won't feel it!

Re: OOC

That was a 5d attack?  Yeah, I'd only have to make one HT roll, and I think I could make it.  Unfortunately, Olven left his gear at home, or you and I'd throw down.  =)

Re: OOC

Nana is (was) a skilled brawler and wrestler, so, hey, they could throw down anyway!  But this attack will leave Nana at 2 FP, so it would be a pretty one-sided fight.

Re: OOC

She may be more capable than Olven, then.  Hm.  But your Burning Attack probably leaves you unsinged, and Olven's going to be at half Move.  He can still Parry, but his Dodge is going to suck.

Re: OOC

I'm picturing this:

"What the hell!?  Did you just explode?"

"Yeah, sorry, a little bit."

A fight ensues.

Re: OOC

Right, with everyone else's hair and clothes on fire.  Does your attack have secondary damage?

I think between Olven, the king, his guards, and Handar, Nana's going down.  =)

Re: OOC

Part of the IC reason is mentioned in my latest IC post.

The way the king acts is not influenced by any OOC considerations. He is who he is. As mentioned before, I stopped posting when asked about additional characters so that I could have an answer before I posted.

Re: OOC

Well, kids, it's been fun, but I've got to get to bed.  Dragondog, if I make my HT roll, I'm going after Nana, but if she uses another burst, I'm toast.

And see, I like Nana's character.  She's fun, lively, and great at parties.  She'll likely be the death of poor Olven.  =)

Re: OOC

Dragondog, does the king have the disadvantage, Odious Personal Habit (Prevents Fun)?

Olven Wolf:
I should have sprung for Fire Immunity.  =)

No such thing!  But Nana paid 90 damn points for DR 30 (Fire Only).

Re: OOC

Nice!  Sounds like you had a lot of fun designing your character.  90 pts for the DR - Fire.  How much was the Innate Attack?
