Re: The Lyceum (main)

Owain attacked the torch, but he could feel the heat it radiated move and he missed it.

D'aden moved away from the wall.

Olven swung his axe and hit (19hp) whatever it was he had bumped into.

Jarl again lit the same something with the torch that Olven had attacked.

Tarhal moved into the room and cast a spell.

The statue kept moving its arms

The evil wizard cast a spell and drenched himself in water putting out the fire from both the torch and the fireball. There was enough water to fall on Owain, Olven, and Jarl. And it extinguished the torch too.

Re: The Lyceum (main)

Sheathing his sword and heading toward where the heat went toward (OOC: I believe that was the door, but I'm betting he's more than a bit disoriented by now so I'm not asking), Owain attacked anyone he bumped into that didn't like they were wearing armor. His goal was either to grapple the mage, or leave the room. After all, the mage couldn't keep up these spells forever... He might as well not stick around when it seems his friends were the ones thowing fireballs. Or maybe they were throwing water...? Waiting outside seemed the best thing to do.

Re: The Lyceum (main)

Olven feels his axe bite into someone, and he pales as he realizes that he might be slashing a friend.  If only he could see or hear something!  And then, he's covered in water, and he sputters, shaking off the water as if he were a dog.

OOC:  Stay still.  Wait.

Owain moved until he bumped into the lab table.

Olven waited.

And if anyone else did something, no one saw or heard anything.

D'aden waits, his staff blocking as much of the passage as possible. If something bumps the staff, he'll attempt to grab it.

Jarl.  Thank the gods.  Olven can't see or hear anything, and if he could smell anything, he can't tell.  He reaches out a hand and lightly rests his hand on the unseen arm.

Re: The Lyceum (main)

Jarl led Olven out of the room and the elf made sure that Olven ducked under D'aden's staff. The two of them were followed by Tarhall leading Owain in a similar manner. Soon the four of them, together with Kar’s friend Sarah were outside the confines of the darkness.

Sarah then started waving her arms, hoping to catch Kar’s and D’aden’s attention.

[OOC: As Darkness only stops stuff in the area from being seen, stuff outside the area can be seen normally. Though both D’aden and Kar are looking the wrong way.]

"Ah, that was a tactical fiasco.  Tarhall, you whom undertook the arduous Test of Sorcery, at a Tower of High Sorcery.  Did you not have some spell ready that could counter the ones that our foe utilized to create that Darkness?  We have to make sure that doesn't happen again, the next time we come up against that Wizard.  So dig deep in the Spell book of yours to find a Spell that will be usefull against his magic.  Hopefully we'll have learned from are mistakes we just made.  An will have a far better outcome the next time we come up against him!".

Owain has drawn his sword and had been waving it around to punctuating the points he was making.

"I have no spell that can remove the darkness," Tarhall said. "But I do have a spell that allows me to see in darkness. Even in magical darkness. But it drains me terribly and I decided to use most of my strength in casting other spells. Perhaps that was an error on my part, but at least we’ve dealt with the wizard now.”

"I'm sorry, I was being to hard on you friend, Tarhall.  I let the heat of the moment get the best of me.  I know you strive to do your best and in the past you have never let us down.  You'll know better next time, and if that happens again, we'll have you act as our eyes.  Directing the rest of us in the best way to throt our foe and defeat him!"

"Did we get him?  I attacked someone in there, but I don't know if he's alive or dead.  Jarlianthas, what did you see in there?"  Olven Wolf's axe is still out, waiting for something to come out of there.  "And was it just me, or did he have a golem in there as well?"

"We did get him," Jarl said. "And your axe had a lot to do with that Olven."

"And it seems like there was some kind of golem in there," Tarhall said. "But I intend to check it out in more detail as it was casting a spell."

"It will vanish in time," Tarhall said. "Though I think we'd better bring D'aden and Kar out of there before that."

Jarl nodded and he and the wizard left the library through the secret passage into the black corridor beyond. Soon they returned leading the two final heroes out of darkness in the same way they'd led Olven and Owain.

D'aden, again, sticks his staff through the straps on his backpack and readies his bow and arrows.
"I'm not sure what we would gain from the lair of an evil mage, in any case."

"Remember our mandate, though, D'aden," Olven says.  "The king has charged us to secure anything that may be of benefit to Kalaman.  If the mage has any kind of magical items, the kingdom may benefit from them."

He shrugs.  "Tarhall is the best judge of what the king can and can't use, and he's already said he'll ask from whatever items we find, but the king gave us a pretty general task, so we should let him decide what is and isn't useful."

He turns back to the darkened room.  "How long until that spell wears off, Tarhall?" he asks.  "And is that golem still dangerous?"

Sir Owain, pointing out what is obvious to himself.

"Is it not our duty to our Liege Lord and thus the people of his lands, to vanquish evil where we find it?  So it can not retreat to some dark place, to fester and grow stronger, to do more harm in the coming years."

"And regarding the golem, that depends. I think it would be wise to be careful when we go back in."

Re: The Lyceum (main)

Back in the room, the black robed wizard lay on the ground unmoving. And the golem next to him didn't move either. The square central table of the room was toppled over and fragile beakers were broken, swimming in its own liquids along with the rest of the stuff that had been on the table.

As soon as Tarhall entered the room, he checked the wizard's neck and found an amulet which he quickly removed and hung around his own neck. He then continued to go through the wizards stuff, removing a few items.

D'aden will allow the others to do most of the serious searching. For the most part, he'll keep his eye on the previous mobile large statue and try to figure out if this sneaky guy has anything hidden in the room.
"I wonder if this was the guy sleeping in that bed we saw before. At least now he won't need to make up the bed again."

Owain, with his readied broadsword and shield stands ready for action!

"The rest of you have a good look around for anything that might be useful for our cause! Which we can later split fair and square. I'll keep and eye on the large staute that some of you suspect of being a Golem!  An wlll let you know if it moves."

Re: The Lyceum (main)

The heroes quickly searched through the room. All they could find were the broken remains of what had been on the table and those things that had been soaked in the spilled liquid beyond until they were beyond use.

Tarhall looked at the golem. "Lift your left leg," he said and the golem obeyed. “What is your name?”

“My name is Utrecht,” the golem said.

“Put your leg down and come follow me.”

“Yes Master.”

"Anything else we need to do here," Tarhall asked and looked at the others.
