Re: The Lyceum III (main)

As the group goes through the door and finds themselves back in the hall, Olven Wolf grunts and shakes his head.  "This place continues to be disorientating," he says quietly.  "D'aden, that's a good idea of trying to mark our path.  Anyone have any chalk, or bread crumbs maybe?"  Wolf looks about him at the walls of the Lyceum.  "I'm inclined to agree.  There's probably some magical way to navigate this place.  What haven't we tried yet?"

Roisin's expression lit up for only a few seconds before disappearing into a frown "I know I should have paid more attention in sigil class."

That's disappointing then, we'll leave this chamber for another time then. May as well press on with the exploration

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

Olven Wolf looks around him.  This place is a mystery.  There is still the matter of the missing girl as well.  He takes a deep breath.  Too bad he doesn't possess any magical abilities.  He wouldn't know what to do with them if he had them, anyway.

"Nothing for it but to keep exploring these corridors," he says, and shrugging, he follows Grettanah.

OOC:  Take a few moments to look, listen, and smell around him.  Then, walk toward the corridors with Grettanah.

"Well it's more complex than that. I could always mold the stone into something, but I'm fairly sure they'd have protected it against that form of magic. As a place of learning you don't want anything the student might do destroying the place." she said as she followed the others.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

The heroes returned to the room with three gilded pedestals in the middle of the room. They were evenly spaced out across its length. Each of curious workmanship, each partnered with a door in the opposing wall, each with a fist sized object floating above it in a globe of light.

A finely polished black rock surrounded by violet light above the pedestal closest to the exit upstairs. Followed by a ruby in crimson light. And then a diamond, of purest quality, surrounded by white light.

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

D'aden has become quiet, suddenly realizing that his sense of direction and experience in finding his way through unknown places are not of much use, here. "It just occurred to me that the features I was remembering to retrace my steps might have moved, by magic, and I wouldn't be able to count on finding my way out."

Roisins grinned "Need to teach the students to rely on magic to find their way...right?" she moved to the diamond, drawing the orb she was given, wondeirng if it might interact somehow with it.

Olven shrugs but then nods.  "Makes sense to me," he says.  "This place is really confusing.  It makes for a pretty good defense against people breaking in and ransacking the place."

Roisin looked disappointed "I was rather hoping that it might have some effect." she looked carefully at the diamond to see if it had any writing on it.

Roisin raised an eyebrow as she turned to the others. "Can one of you try the black gemstone? I'd be curious to see if they act this way to all people, or if it is just to mages?"

Re: The Lyceum III (main)

Roisin pondered for a moment. <Blue>"Well...one of the tenets of the Towers of High sorcery is that all mages no matter the order of the robes should work together. It stand to reason if I reach for the diamond and it moves to where the ruby is and you reach for the ruby and it moves to where the black gemstone is and the black gemstone moves to where the diamond is....if we all try to reach for a gemstone at the same time, we might be able to grasp it, if not the one which we intended?"<?Blue>

That may be so, however Would you propose this room were setup to test three different robes working in unison if so what if the Black robe grasped the clear gem and vice versa would that have an adverse effect upon them.

"It's possible that this could have an adverse effect, but this is a place of learning. I suspect it might only be...debilitating as opposed to harmful." Roisin said "But yes, that's just an educated guess."

"One of the previous apparitions handed me a black robe, I think in response to answers I gave to the questions it posed. Perhaps I should try one of the gems, though I'm not, to my knowledge, gifted."
D'aden peers at the gems as if they would grow teeth and bite anyone foolish enough to get a hand near.

While the others try the gems in various combinations, Olven remains on guard in case more dracs or other adversaries show.  His eyes flicker from gems to his companions to their surroundings, ever watchful.

"It is possible I could be completely misled by this, so let me double check. " Roisin cast a dweomer to take a closer look at the magic holding the gems, trying to figure out if it might be capable of harm.

Roisin nodded to the others, looking quite weary from her efforts. "Okay, so there's good news and bad news. I can only figure out one of the spells affecting the gems....and it's the one causing the gems to move. The good news is...I think my plan might work....can we try it?"
