Alvin is the elven healer you met in the Lyceum. She provided one of the three keys that let you enter the final room and rescue the girl from the dragon and the dragon highlord. Olven invited her to join the group and share in your loot.

You also need to decide what you're doing with the loot you brought with you.You have a wagon load of the stuff, including a lot of platinum pieces. And the guards that came with it.

I would have commented on this sooner, but I was away and unexpectedly had no access

A magic scroll. The black hooded cloak D'aden is wearing. Wizard's Amulet (connected to the Guardian), bracers, cloak, 2 potions, small knife, 1 foot tube of hardened black silver. Dragonhighlord's armor.

I'll start with the dragonhighlords armour. I'll keep on identifying things until all functions are uncovered.
Then the amulet
then the hooded cloak
then the other cloak
then bracers
If you need any more please let me know.

So everyone is here, awesome!

We might as well have the loot discussion OOC. In the first post of the Treasure thread, we have listed what each of you taken for yourselves. In addition to that, we have the 4,000 platinum crowns and 15 jewels you found in the treasure room. And the magical books from the library.

The 83 platinum crowns each of you already have, are worth $41,500 each. Plus the value of whatever else your character has claimed. Some of those things are magical and some you don't know the value of.

So are any of you claiming anything else? The next adventure will likely not be this rich in rewards. But an average person could live more than 5 years on what you have gotten already. Though adventurers can have extraordinary expenses.

D'aden was never in it for the coins, and would be happy with what he's carrying. Despite what anyone else thinks, he'll probably try to keep the wagon and team if he can. Kind of like the end of 'Streets of Fire', where the hero gets nothing but the stolen car, but without the electric instruments, of course.

She would however ask for a few things

3) she'd ask if she could be granted the Lyceum from the King so she could set about reopening it as a place of magical teaching.

You do have some elemental water. You can keep it or give it to the dwarven cleric. Or someone else.

D'aden wasn't involved in the elemental water thing and knows nothing of the icon of truth. He'll busily repair and replace anything he needs to repair and replace, then explore nearby water sources in an attempt to beat his own personal best as far as size of fish landed. Being who he is, he'll attempt to drag Roisin and Olven with him on these local expeditions; I expect nothing.
There are a few things he would attempt to acquire
  • a scabbard for his new sword
  • a horse with tack (although I don't much care if he's abrupt and rude)
  • lute strings (you never know when that Josie gal is gonna come up with a marvelous device made possible by lute strings)

I'm not sure what of the treasure belongs to us and what belongs to the king. I know we were initially sent to the Lyceum to bring back funds to rebuild Kalaman. I'm not sure what you guys have divvied up yet and what goes to the king, but Olven will suggest giving the lion's share of the gold and gems to Kalaman, since that's what we were sent to do.

Olven will suggest that Roisin and Olven return the elemental water to the dwarven cleric. He will make excuses in order not to accompany them.

For Olven's share of the treasure, he will invest in some clothing befitting his new status (an unexpected and thoroughly undeserved gift), a horse (ideally trained for war with bit, bridle, bandings, and the rest). Whatever other money he has, he will invest in his barony - hiring staff (guards, a seneschal, a housekeeper, a cook). If there's anything else, he'd like to invest it in the barony itself to build it up - perhaps he can invest in some kind of industry, agriculture, or commercial endeavors.

Your characters don't know this yet, but to truly study the Icon of Truth, takes 8 hours per day for a week. And it has to be done alone.

You could choose to do it in sequence and stay here for as many weeks as there are persons in the group who want to read it. Or you can do it in shifts, which means that three people can do it in one week, but those characters wouldn't be able to interact with the other two at all during that week.

But then studying in the library would take time too, which you wouldn't be allowed to do until you had completed your study of the Icon of Truth and pledged allegiance to the High God.

This change would be a greater impact for some of you than it would be for others. Studying the Icon of Truth will inform you of what the High God has to offer and what would be required of you if you pledged allegiance. Only after that do you make the choice to give your allegiance or not.

To facilitate any questions you might have, I'm posting this in the OOC thread, instead of in an OOC section of the IC thread.

Those of you who choose to abandon your old gods and follow the High God will be able to learn to use both arcane and divine magic. At the same time! You will earn Magery 0 [5] if you don't have it. You may elect to take Clerical Investment [5] if you don't have it and want to be an ordained priest of the High God. Those who have Magery 0 or have/don't want Clerical Investment can use the 5 or 10 points saved on additional levels of Magery or Power Investiture. You do not need both of those advantages to use both types of magic. This means that both arcane and divine spells will be available to you. Though Gate spells and most Technological spells are still off limits as mentioned in the House Rules thread.

You will also have Religious Rank (High God) 0 [0] as a member of the Order. But it will not give you a Duty to the Order.

In addition, you may take Order related disadvantages to get additional points to spend on traits that could have come from this epiphany.

Let me know in PMs what, if anything, particular you want to do with the rest of your time during this week.

That is completely up to you.

And there are two steps to the invitation. The first is to read the Icon of Truth. It takes a week of your time, but you don't have to make any commitments until you have finished reading. And choosing to switch allegiance from Solinari to the High God, will open new doors, but it will also close old ones.

Olven, D'aden, and Alvin all wanted to read the Icon of Truth. So we can say that they read it first. And they all decided to follow the High God. And you might want to talk to them IC and find out why.

If you want to be a Solinari following white-robed wizard, you shouldn't change.

Before you joined the group, there was another character who was in a similar situation. Change who you are to get information that will help the group. The player didn't want to change, but he chose to change for the team. I thought he was fine with that choice, but he shortly thereafter left the game.

It seems that he believed that he had to do it for the group and didn't like how his character changed. But at the same time, another character got the same information in another way.

So what I'm saying is this. You should stay true to the vision of your character. And make your choices based on that. If you want to change, you can do that. If you don't want to change, you shouldn't.

Stuff happened to Olven and you know what he's dealing with. As I've been throwing out hints regarding his coming change for a long time, the player noticed even though the character at first did not. And there is a cure, so I knew that Olven could get out of it if he wanted to.

Some time ago, before Olven's change had fully manifested, your choices in the Lyceum placed D'aden in front of a possible change and I mentioned it to him. I did this because there was no cure and I didn't want to unilaterally change his character in such a major way. It resulted in no change.

Choice is very important to me. And I don't want to force you into anything. We're here to have fun. The characters may go through some tribulation along the way, but it is your choice that changes them and determines what adventures they have. Not my fiat.

And when I sat down to respond, I wasn't planning on writing this much, but here we are. So in summary. You make the choice. The choice you want to make for your character. And consider the needs of the group only if you want to. And in this case, you have three characters you can ask IC that might give you new information that might inform your choice.

Let's go with the "not making my mind up" at the moment.
It's pretty sure I'd read the Icon of Truth along with the others.
I think it might depend on interaction with the others in the tower and how persuasive the icon is itself in terms of argument and discourse.

I mean I might discuss it in PM with you.

There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction they are going!
There’s no knowing where they’re rowing,
Or which way they river’s flowing!
Not a speck of light is showing,
So the danger must be growing,
For the rowers keep on rowing,
And they’re certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing…"

Mechanically, if you're beside her, up to 2 hexes to either side, she can parry attacks headed toward you. She can also trip people fairly well if they they try to move past her to get to anyone behind her. She can take a beating, too, so she can handle being up front as her role requires. Hopefully that will give everyone some idea of how to work with her so she can be the tank and stop a lot of the hurt from reaching you all.

I've never tried coconut cream pie, but I wouldn't mind doing so. Carrot cake is amazing though. So if there were both, I think I would have to try the first. And likely finish with the second.

Quoting from the IC thread:

"[The dragon siblings] burned all defenders and, brother and sister, ruled the land. Lizardmen rose up from the swamps to be their closest servants and officials. For three generations of humans, no one could stand against them. They had great caverns dug for themselves in the dragonish fashion on opposite sides of a hill and they had a palace raised above it from which they ruled. The dragon king had his seat in the east part of the palace, and the queen in the west."

Responding to a question about what monster groups are in the mountains (and Tiichi is the only draconian you've seen on this continent): "Oh my," the dancer exclaimed. "Nothing simple like that." She looked at Tiichi out of the corner of her eye. "There are ogres, minotaurs, bear folk," looking at Tiichi again out of the corner of her eye, "lizard folk, Teremere, wights, corpse-eaters, and a few trolls." She shivered. When I think about them, I hear lofty pines on Misty Mountain."

If you look at them, lizard folk are to lizards what draconians are to dragons. These are of course the first lizard folk you've ever met.

And for the locals, these lizard folk are considered monsters.

I apologise. I was trying to reread the thread to catch up before posting, but I only got up to roughly where I was before I left. I'll post blindly. Please adjust to suit the circumstances.

My hard drive has crashed. I had hoped to have the data restored to my new hard drive by now. Unfortunately, that is taking longer than I had hoped.

The fifth attempt to restore my files failed too. I have now turned the harddrive in for professional help.

I got my hard drive back. And it seems that everything important is there, not that I can say that for sure when that includes all my creative writing for the past 20-30 years. But for this campaign, it appears to be so.

I'm doing okay. I've been avoiding RPOL a little bit, which is why I've been lagging.

Roisin is going to need closer to two hours before all her ER is back, but it returns even if she doesn't rest. It just takes time.

I meant to post this yesterday but.... we're overrun and heavily overworked.

We're getting a lot of out of state people.

Good news is that in 2 weeks I will have a week off (may 10th) to rest.

Then 5 weeks of furlough (3 in june and 2 in october) to follow up later.

My workload should diminish as I bring others on and up to speed, though I suspect they'll always bring me in if things degrade.
