Re: Chapter 18.4 The Hunting Party

"Hold on a second. It might be a different bone monster," he said coming up beside Ghost Wolf. "And an ally that doesn't know about our truce. If we're lucky. I'll call him off and we'll be the stronger for it, if whoever he's been shootin' at can let bygones be bygones."

He yelled out "PIERCE IS THAT YOU?" at the top of his voice. With his mind, he reached out to see if he could feel Rattleshirt nearby.

"Another-?" Ghost Wolf begins, then winces at the shouting.

Alouette shakes itself and mutters. "static error," then looks at the ceiling curiously. "! Minus sky..."

The braves look from Adrian to Ghost Wolf in confusion. There's a general terse exchange of information and drawing of weapons.

"Ghost Wolf, if you can call off the warriors ahead of us, I will go ahead and deal with the Bone Monster so that we can pass safely," Adrian said quickly, hoping that they would be able to stave off any tensions.

Ghost Wolf looks to Alouette.

"Howdy!" Alouette chirps.

Ghost Wolf frowns and gestures for the hefty fellow the lawmen met in the valley to jog up and investigate. [Language unknown: "Ou an he Etthe Illingove ich ri wh waiv tr ha oread andone-anywitrat linprowhipre nepele st ouaiof outth lar latunders."]

The brave squares his shoulders and lopes off.

One Shot uses the butt of his rifle to push the device down so that it's not 'aimed' at Ghost Wolf, who stares, alarmed, at the talking box.

"You have brought a devil?"

"Actually, what this is doing is using the Aether as a translation medium, using the imprint our minds make when we speak to suss out the true meaning behind words, and then translate them back into tongues we can understand." Evans says.

"Yes. To translate speech between two parties." The box squawks. [Language unknown: "Ectek. Tr ilssndbe icheauill."]

"Wait, what?" Evans says. Frowning, he shakes the device. "Must be a malfunction..."

Ghost wolf gets a bemused look, but doesn't seem that surprised a demon is more honest than white men. Then two further shots take his attention from the box.

"If the machine has demons in you should put a label on it like with shrimps,"
Alouette suggests. "So if Ambrose or self are not there to tell people they will still know not to attempt untrained dissassembly and be injured, persuaded or eaten by fiends from Hell."

"It's me, Vega! Don't shoot, I'm comin' towards you." he called back to Pierce.

Adrian turned to Ghost Wolf. "Pierce will help us, but if your warriors attack him, he'll shoot 'em down. I'm gonna go let him know we've made a truce." Adrian moved ahead to wherever the sound of Pierce's voice had come from.

[[actually it's CB who speaks Comanche, but hey, Jake has 5 language slots...reckon he wasn't paying attention earlier, then, and/or speaks actual Shoshone and can just guess his way through Comanche with an accent and lots of waving...]]

The natives look at each other in bemusement at the white men's eagerness to talk amongst themselves and to demons in Comanche. Ghost Wolf steps forward a bit to call after Adrian, since things have fallen quiet.

"Have you captured the monster?"

"Inquiry: why are Caucasian captives still armed?" says Evans' machine. "Response: these are not captives, they came to inform person Ghost Wolf that person Pale Moon is acting irrationally. They have been allowed to live and not be enslaved because Ghost Wolf believes information."

"Yes, I have captured the monster,"
Adrian responds from the side tunnel. "It is safe to come towards me."

[[What range does the Translator have again?]]

Ghost Wolf gestures his men on and addresses Evans, being unsure who's the eldest among the white men but taking the hat for a sign of authority. "We will go down there. It is within the...range of where the other white men might be."

"Statement of intent to decend to place indicated. This location is within the area where non-static party of intruding Caucasians may be found."
