Remember the Harrowed pull. Always remember the Harrowed pull. Don't ever count out a character in Deadlands completely...

Just so everyone knows, I make the pull, then I'll notify you of the results via PM.

Yeah but the proper mindset is to think they're dead, so their return is shocking.

Also, if he does come back from the pale, Wildcat and Robert, well they'd have to have words.

Black Magic

I sort of miss the old Black Magic/Witch rules from Classic sometimes.

I've sort of incorporated it into Reloaded by mocking either the huckster mechanics (but they can have any power with any trapping, and I have to be creative with the backlash charts sometimes as in my opinion the manitous don't punish their servants), or else I treat them like the Blessed, but again, any power with any trapping.

That way it's not completely perfect, but it's ridiculously good.

Balanced it is not, but it sure makes my posse groan when I start making Black Magic rolls.

You can work it that way.  I don't like it though, it lacks a certain flair, to me.

The Streets of Laredo

Incidentally The Streets of Laredo is one of my personal favorites, besides being the absolute best musical response to Carl's whistling.

quote:
As I walked out in the streets of Laredo
As I walked out in Laredo one day,
I spied a young cowboy, all wrapped in white linen
Wrapped up in white linen and cold as the clay.

"I see by your outfit, that you are a cowboy."
These words he did say as I slowly walked by.
"Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story,
For I'm shot in the chest, and today I must die."

"'Twas once in the saddle I used to go dashing,
'Twas once in the saddle I used to go gay.
First down to Rosie's, and then to the card-house,
Got shot in the breast, and I'm dying today."

"Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly,
    And play the dead march as you carry me along;
Take me to the valley, and lay the sod o'er me,
For I'm a young cowboy and I know I've done wrong."
"Get six jolly cowboys to carry my coffin,
Get six pretty maidens to bear up my pall.
Put bunches of roses all over my coffin,
Roses to deaden the clods as they fall."

"Then swing your rope slowly and rattle your spurs lowly,
    And give a wild whoop as you carry me along;
And in the grave throw me and roll the sod o'er me.
For I'm a young cowboy and I know I've done wrong."

"Go bring me a cup, a cup of cold water.
To cool my parched lips", the cowboy then said.
Before I returned, his soul had departed,
And gone to the round up - the cowboy was dead.

We beat the drum slowly and played the fife lowly,
And bitterly wept as we bore him along.
For we loved our comrade, so brave, young and handsome,
We all loved our comrade, although he'd done wrong.

Re: The Streets of Laredo

I wish I was less ik and my harmonicky didn't hate rainy days quite so much - Streets of Laredo was one of the first tunes I taught myself and I'm nostalging now.

Apparently it's easy to find fiddle variants of the tune but hard to find the words of Wolves A-Howlin' online...for interest's sake, this is how I first heard it, from a Tennessean:
quote:
Can’t you hear them wolves a-howling
All around my poor little darlin’?
All around my poor little darlin’
I'm afraid they'll ketch my darling.

Wake up, girl, and take your warning;
Howls at the borders here this morning,
All around my poor little darlin’
I'm afraid they'll ketch my darling.

Big dog a-barking and the little dog a-howlin',
Setting in the corner talking to my darlin'
Howls all around my poor little darlin’
I'm afraid they'll ketch my darling

Wolves all a-runnin’ and the blue clouds flying
Poor little darlin’ sets in crying
Wolves all around my poor little darlin’
I'm afraid they'll ketch my darling.

Four on the mountain, six in the holler
Bet them wolves have done and got her.

There's a fragmentary sung version here: http://web.lyon.edu/wolfcollec...gs/cashcant1231.html but that's all.

Pfft, if it was Alouette something would probably be on fire, electrified, or stuck to the ceiling by now...

Am I the only one weirded out by Talky!Carl? I suppose if one left Gaspard Ulliel ([young] Hannibal Lecter) outside for a couple of weeks, dragged him through some underbrush and shaved him badly he'd look enough like Carl for our fictional Film of the Game. [amused by this]

As for the brawl, it's going to be handwaved unless and until there's a reason it shouldn't be, such as Katy Devon marching right back into it.

Re: Trouble inmates

It's character development! ...hopefully it is for Wildcat, anyway, defending her beliefs. I think Carl's present thought processes are something like 'Tired, wet, hungry...owsadow...snobby lady is making me talk, do not want.' *grump*

...and CB is being creepy.

Re: Trouble inmates

Indeed.  In CB's defense though, his interpretation of it would make it rather tiring to listen to. WC actually doesn't mean to bitch about her life, she does exactly what she wants to every day all the time so her life turned out great, but it sure does sound like a pity party.

The problem is Carl, from WC's POV, is amoral at best, and there's no appealing to him philosophically or morally, so she has to make him think what she wants is in his own rational self interest.  That takes a very long argument.

I find it ironic that it's lost on WC that getting Carl to talk is significant, and it's lost on Carl that WC can get him to talk at such length is signficant.

Re: Trouble inmates

[snerk] I'm sure. He could cut in that he had to live in a shoebox in't middle of the road, of course, but I think things would go downhill from there...Carl genuinely thinks his upbringing wasn't particularly harsh, which is why he tends to underestimate how scareable people are/mistake talking tough for being so.

True...he's good at listening, though, and she should've twigged by now that he's willing to go up against pretty much anything/get locked in overnight with a supposed vicious murderous rapist for the sake of his town's safety.

[nods] He'd probably notice if someone fed him.

The chickens.

Please assume Alouette's epic ramble in response to "why does ghost rock wail?" is delivered in the tone usually associated with the expression :D

This is not because it's gleeful, it's because the clank hasn't picked up on many tonal associations yet. I apologise if anyone has nightmares.

...also, Katy and Mike starting to bond a little is strangely adorable.

Re: The chickens.

[nods] To the best of Alouette's knowledge and belief (from the proto-ghostrock its creator was messing with in the 1850s), ghost rock is powered up by the spiritual energy of lots and lots of little fuzzy babies being burned alive fully conscious.

Fate chips: RWB for Alouette and its bunny foot, WB for Carl.

Keeping cards for now.
