Alouette:
Is it me, or is there some kind of demented mutual protection thing going on between Carl and Wildcat at present? Only I know Carl'd react to a threat to Wildcat with a "{{puff}} My Ranger to murder" the same way Wildcat goes "{{puff}} My prisoners"...if either of them end up indebted to the other for it they're going to have to start a tally sheet before they can duel...
It's a little more genuine on WC's end. Carl probably can't be expected to understand or care, but killing Jesse really weighs on her because she doesn't believe it was her place to actually kill him. Kat has a bit of a martyr complex and sees trying to kill her as a lesser crime than trying to kill a non lawdog; her daddy issues have a lot to do with that. She wanted Jesse to face trial in earnest.
As far as WC's concerned, Carl's few hours in the pokey absolves him of anything he's done so far up to and including the threat of killing her. She's not going to drop her guard or think that it changes anything from Carl's end, but under the circumstances, she's accepting this short incarceration as putting everything squaresies. She's a vengeful bitch, but Evans in her eyes was and will again be a legitimate authority figure and more impartial than her, and if he has decreed one night in the pokey is adequate, she accepts that.
The irony is WC has lived her whole life hating someone she can never forgive and will think Carl is broken and pathetic if he makes his move, and as far as she's concerned the satisfaction of cuffing Hardin will never happen now, so she sees no reason Carl's entitled to anything that's been denied her.
Two helpless men being phantom shot by a... hell thing, is something she can't tolerate even if they deserve it.
