Re: Chapter 13.2: Blood at Sundown

OOC: Now's about the point I wish William wasn't build to just be a damn good shooter, but also a half-decent fighter...

William registers the weird snake eyes on this "Gus" fella, but too much has happened to him in the last 24 hours or so to it make of an impact.

Then he hears the ranger calling Spades a snake.
Snake? Looks like there's only one snake here....

He had to make a decision. He couldn't see Spades, but he thought that Old Monocle would be able to get a clean getaway. He, William, had shot through the other mans jacket, but apparently didn't hit him. So that would be easy to write off, probably. Knowing his luck, the people here might just string him up *because*.

Then there was that girl ranger, but she seemed to be focused on Spades. She'd be a problem in a second.
But right now, the fella with the bowie knife was the bigger problem. And he could use a Bowie knife after that fanged bitch stole his...

OOC: Ok, trying to take the knife from Gus. That's fighting -2 for the called shot, right? Trying to grab his wrist and turn it, using my superhuman strength to break his wrist.
09:23, Today: William Pierce rolled 8,9 using d6-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of (6+4)10,(6+5)11. Fighting, disarm, 2nd red chip.
09:23, Today: William Pierce rolled 1,2 using d6-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 3,4. Fighting, disarm, red chip.
09:23, Today: William Pierce rolled -1,1 using d6-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 1,3. Fighting, disarm.

Ok, down to the legend Chip. Now damage... straight up Strength, I think, right? 9 *might* be a raise, so I'm adding a d6 in an extra roll.
09:25, Today: William Pierce rolled 1 (potential total of 10) using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1. Strength damage potential bonus.
09:25, Today: William Pierce rolled 9 using 1d10, rerolling max with rolls of 9. Strength Damage. Not too shabby!

In reply to The Stray (msg #281):
The native son looks at Cantrell with a stare like daggers. He looks away, his chest heaving in breaths as his eyes closes for a moment. "I should kill you for what you tried to do to me ...." while he speaks the knuckles of Charging Bear's hand pop as he balls his hands into tight fists. He goes quiet abruptly and remains so for a few moments.

Standing slowly Charging Bear walks over to where Cantrell is sitting. "I'll bring that bastard Itza-chu in and clear my name then you can apologize to me." his words come out with a venom on them unlike any the native son has ever used.

With that said Charging Bear turns his back on Cantrell, leaving the bounty hunter to lick his wounds, and heads back to Father O'Rourke with a small trail of crimson following after him as blood drips from his still clinched fists.

In reply to William Pierce (msg #286):

Gus struggles in William's iron grip, but the pain forces him to drop the blade within easy reach.

"Stronger...than you...look" Gus grunts through gritted teeth.

It's the work of a moment to snatch up the man's blade...and now the roughneck is unarmed.

((OOC: Alrighty, let's sort this out.

9 is a Hit but not a Raise, since Gus's Parry is 6. So no bonus damage (not that it would have helped anyhow, what with it so low).

9 Damage is enough to make Gus Shaken. Further more, he needs to succeed on a Strength roll vs. TN 9 to keep hold of his blade.

10:00, Today: Gus Shaw rolled 3,5 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,5. Strength.

William has a Success and Raise against Gus. Not only does Gus drop the knife, William is now holding it!

Since Gus doesn't have any Natural Weapons, he counts as an Unarmed Defender until he can draw another weapon.))

Wildcat, you can finish your turn now.

In reply to Charging Bear (msg #287):

"Reckon I ain't got no cause to blame you for that..." Cantrell says. He stands, wincing in pain as his wounds protest, and walks after CB. "Though to be fair, you done just as much to me as I done to you. You cost me my commission, you tried to attack me while my back was turned, you let the Jellicles free to become worse monster than they already was. So don't get all self-righteous with me. We gonna have to settle things between us." He matches Charging Bear's gaze. "But I want to bring down that bastard down as much as you. The shit between us can wait until we take him down. So I propose a truce between us until that's done."

He holds out a hand. "Together?"

In reply to Jericho Cantrell (msg #289):
A counter to each of Cantrell's accusations comes to Charging Bear's mind as freely as light from the sun. You lost your commission cause you were going to murder women and children, the Jellicles are free cause you tried to kill me. but he remains quiet and listens to the other man's offer.

The native son nods, "A truce." Charging Bear takes the offered hand and shakes it to 'seal the deal'.

Re: Chapter 13.2: Blood at Sundown

All right I realized in between postings that what I originally thought was so brilliant was actually full of problems, so this is going to take some artistry.  First, a Faith roll with MAP!

12:52, Today: Wildcat Hawkins rolled 2,3 using 1d6-2,1d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,5. Will thou smite him oh mighty smiter?

12:53, Today: Wildcat Hawkins rolled 9 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+3)9. Red Chip from Outer Space!

The Miracle is obviously Smite, and that's a raise.

12:55, Today: Wildcat Hawkins rolled 2,3 using d6-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,5. Shooting!

12:57, Today: Wildcat Hawkins rolled 2 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2. Blue Chip of Dooooom!

I forgot it's actually another -2 for the cover so I missed bad, I'm not going to try save that with chips either.  Should have just stuck to the Miracle but what can you do.

I have to stop and laugh, I am so useless in this combat.

13:01, Today: Wildcat Hawkins drew the single card: 9C using the Deadlands system. Dern it.

"Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed!"  The ranger recited calmly.  The .45 barked once.  The shot nicked the corner of the doorframe, failing to find its target.

But where it hit, a small burning crater festered in the wood, as if the bullet were explosive.

15:54, Today: Alistair Milburn rolled 7 using 1d10+4, rerolling max with rolls of 3. Shooting. That's a hit, no raise.

15:55, Today: Alistair Milburn rolled 16 using 3d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,(6+2)8,3. Damage. That's a Shaken and 2 Wounds for William.

"Angel," Alouette corrects Adrian, stepping back a pace with slightly blood-smeared brass fingers as he moves, then trying to get hold of one of his feet. Static murmurs as he looks towards the fight. "You should go outside and not die again, and be minus witchcraft: it is bad for you."

The static crests, then falls sharply away as the clank continues its ignored attempts to manually disassemble the fight...though the voice Adrian hears behind him is definitely that of his mother. "Adrian, please. The ever-fighters..."

Should he look back, there's only the clank to see, its weird head raised to point in the direction of his face, the pale, lambent glow deep in its lenses barely tinged with gold. "Repent," it advises in a last crackling sigh of static. "-beware the men of the mirror's skin; beware the woman who walks as smoke. Cause the Serpent to strike at itself. Remember your horse."

[[00:18, Today: Alouette rolled 11,17 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+5)11,(6+6+5)17. go go gadget impossible knowledge! Raise and then some...orphan-tormenting impressions ahoy, then!

We're only shootin' in self-defense! It's that goddamned zombie callin' himself a deputy that started pullin' guns and shootin' away! Why aren't you pluggin' at him afore the damn deadder eats yo' brains!?"

((OOC: Seven moves back into Heavy Cover from Wildcat (moving into Total Cover regarding the rest of the saloon, so he can't fire at Adrian this turn and Adrian can't fire back), and attempts a Smarts trick to untangle the situation. It's an odd trick, because he's actually telling the truth (mostly) but his target is not likely to believe him.

20:27, Today: The Seven of Spades rolled 9,3 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+3)9,3.

Combats where you just miss every.  single.  roll.  are so grating.

Wildcat Hawkins has been trained to survive in Death Valley, pursue the most dangerous men in the world for weeks on end, then subdue or capture them, and now inexplicably has the power of God on her side.  She's a veritable paragon of human focus and discipline.

But she's confused by this.  He might as well have shot her.  "What!?"

Whatever's goin' on, Adrian just can't seem to shake it. He wasn't in love, but he was certainly all shook up. Instead, he found himself on the ragged edge and didn't really have it in him to move. If he was gonna die, he was gonna just lay there and watch while at least one of the men that had shot at him was taken down. It would be some kind of rough justice for the man.

Then his eyes started to drift closed, and he heard his mama talkin' to him again, and his head started to loll against the bar as he clutched his chest and started mumbling to himself. "What the hell's an ever-fighter, mama? Oh, sorry 'bout the language...I just never heard'a no such thing..." His mutters began to trail off into an unintelligible and inaudible drone as he seemed to lose track of where he was, when he was, and what was going on around him.

OOC:

Dice roller hates me. I failed my Shaken check for last round, and this round as well. I'm just gonna have him lay there on the ground behind the bar, in what he incorrectly perceives to be the last moments of his life.

Initiative if needed next round:

The clank tilts its head down at the half-hallucinating deputy, then leans in and nudges his face with its 'beak' like it did with Cantrell, infinitely gentle.
"Ever-fighters?" it queries. "Are the Pure Blooded Comanches here now?"

It stands up a moment to look for Comanches in the bar, then continues to witter as it takes Adrian's bar-clutching hand and starts trying to drag him towards Wildcat.

[[if it can get alongside/before her encumbered so, it will. Providing Adrian doesn't fight it off, naturally, but he's sort of Shaken, so...]]

"You should get food in before you go outside if you are being a witch," it tells him. "Otherwise you might be tempted to eat livestock and pets...do not eat people: eating people is wrong and differently alive people turn wendigo plus fast."

"You have holes in!" it exclaims at the sight of William, pausing in its dragging to tell Alistair off. "That was bad - Man In Black is not an outlaw or a Yankee any more." There's a distinct Wildcat tone to that declaration. "You should not make vampires that have not harmed mortals angry, holey or hungry, Moustache Man. Cease! Repent."

[[Persuade the Alistair to Stop Fiiiiighting!

"...can't this place go five minutes without a crisis?" says a familiar voice from the entrance.

Evans enters the room, his strange gyromounted pistol drawn, and surveys the scene before him.

William sees a dapper gentleman with slicked-back black hair, curled mustache and goatee, and suit covered by a coat similar to the one he's wearing. He looks like the sort of character you'd have read about in a dime novel, the one that twirls his mustache as he tries to marry Polly Pureheart and steal the family farm. however, this gentleman has a tin star on his lapel, and is holding a modified six-shooter with pendulum gyromounts affixed to the side.

He looks around the chaos of the room, trying to make sense of everything. "Well?" He says, loud enough to be heard over the din. "What's all this, then?"

((OOC: Evans had to run to get this far, so he has no action this turn other than surveying the scene and wondering just what the hell is going on.

Great. Another Law Dog.

William still has his pistol trained on Shotgun guy. Both barrels smoking meant he was empty. That also explained the pain in his upper back.
The girl ranger was still next to him. Snake Eyes, too. The clank was acting weirder and weirder and he was still not sure it might not blow up any minute.

Face it, William, you're out of options. For now. The fanged bitch'll have to wait.

"You're empty, you yellow asshole." William says coldly to Milburn.
But then he releases the cocked hammer and puts his pistol - and Snake-eyes' bowie knife on the floor and stands up slowly, his arms raised.
