Re: Out Of Character: The Circle W Ranch ((OOC IV))

Awesome game. Now let's take it to 10.000!

Mr. Lurch:
It's an Animate Hand (obviously)

I fondly remember the time when my friends and I were talking about game night the day after in a public place earning lots of funny looks.
We didn't even do it consciously.
Most priceless: We're talking about a cyberpunk game and the infiltration of a military camp.
We reminiscence who killed who and when and how and what, until finally I ask:
"Where was Stephen the whole time, by the way?"
- Harry answers: "He lost his legs when we crossed the minefield, don't you remember? I think he's still bleeding out there."
...at whcih point an elderly lady got up and sat down in another booth. :-)

Because it had to be said...

It's over 9000!

Though I know of a Deadlands game that's currently ongoing that is, in fact, longer than this one...Adrian Vega's game!

Loving the "over 9000" references here :)

In reply to William Pierce (msg #42):

My game is in recent days a little slower paced than this one and the system is Classic, and not Reloaded. If you're interested, send me a PM and I can give you more info.

Re: Out Of Character: The Circle W Ranch ((OOC IV))

Evans' response to the cockatrice reminds me of an early Victorian "Birdwatcher's Guide" I read in the course of my studies, which in all seriousness recommended against the use of fowling pieces (think shotgun) on anything smaller than thrushes. Quite how many sparrow-sized birdies the author had reduced to a few sad feathers and a sort of smear in the process of determining this lower limit were not mentioned.

On the theme of small passerines, Adrian might be familiar enough with mining canaries and possibly minahs in New Orleans to know that if you want to pick a bitty birdie up on your finger you put said finger right in front of them to trigger the step-up reflex. I've actually done this with wild sparrow fledgies too young to know they're supposed to fly away - if something's built to perch, it'll do it.

By the by, this game is very educational. I was never aware that "Luck of the Irish" was supposed to be an ironic term.

It can be used both ironically and unironically...it refers to both particularly good AND spectacularly bad luck, which seems to follow the Irish around.

Well, I had to go and remedy this... I had to avoid confusion!
Also, there has been an example of a player character chopping off his own head, so I gotta be careful.

Gotta dig through the internet to see if I can still find that story...

Re: Out Of Character: The Circle W Ranch ((OOC IV))

Now I'm having a player dilemma. CB is Heroic (yes with a capital H) but Hates (also with a capital H) Itza-chu and what he represents with pretty much every fiber of his being.

Now Heroic just says "Character always helps those in need" so shooting Itza-chu from hiding is in theory fine for CB. If he had Code of Honor it would be very cut and dry, but I do try to play CB with a Honorable nature... except for shooting William Pierce for possibly going after Cantrell... BUT I do have the Feel It adventure card and a very nasty Dragoon to boot...

Sorry, sudden sword noise. I don't even recall what corner of UK or possibly French pop culture it comes from.

@CB - what's wrong? Feel free to draw a dozen bulletproof Comanches and a crazy combat monster in your direction, really. You can always yell at him first so's he's facing you.

Re: Out Of Character: The Circle W Ranch ((OOC IV))

No...just that they're a weird silvery colour and Alouette was going on about a leader who could do magic of some sort. 'Course, there's still a lot of them and only one actual Charging Bear, so he might be leery of potentially pissing them off anyway.

Re: Out Of Character: The Circle W Ranch ((OOC IV))

In reply to Charging Bear (msg #56):

On the one hand, Cantrell specifically told Charging Bear not to engage anyone until he'd gotten the lay of the land, returned, and they could hash out a plan.

On the other hand, if CB attacks from his vantage point he can very likely get The Drop on Itza-chu, and with that awesome gun and the Feel It card might actually be able to take him out in one shot (or at least Incapacitate him for a follow-up attack).

On the other other hand, CB is badly outnumbered by experienced warriors who might or might not take exception to their leader getting shot from ambush. Warriors who are, though CB doesn't know it, bulletproof (though he has a magic gun, which might make a difference).

On the other other other hand (running out of hands here) CB has been known to leap first, look at some vague time later (due to the whole heroic thing) and I tend to award Fate Chips for Hindrances (such as Heroic). And if he doesn't want to use Feel It, he's always got a Legend Chip and the dreaded "Out Of The Frying Pan" card to play...

So really, I ask you...WWCBD?

Re: Out Of Character: The Circle W Ranch ((OOC IV))

Ha! I missed that post. No no,
it's going to go like this:
- CB shoots Itza-Chu with his Weapon of Doomy Doom and goes "Ha! That was easy...oh, crap." and runs away from the charging gang of spear-waving bulletproof Comanches in true Chased By Angry Natives style.

- Carl shrugs, kicks Itza-Chu in the head a bit to make sure he's dead for now, sets him on fire and explains a few things to the remaining natives, who realise the error of their ways (because zombies) and are a bit unenthusiastic about taking on Pale Eyed Devil anyway.

- CB sneaks and scuttles and throws off pursuit, then comes back to help Carl de-crucify folk because he is a nice guy usually, even if they are white.

- CB looks like he's about to touch a white woman or child already thoroughly traumatised by the local injuns.

- CB is attacked by Carl, who probably bites him.

- The Comanches sit and make popcorn on Itza-Chu's constantly regenerating-and-burning corpse and watch. Jesse too. Eventually the other Comanches come back and roast Cantrell, whom they captured whilst CB was doing heroics and didn't care. They have marshmallows.

Agh, McCoy, how I wish you displayed some competence! I hope they'll find the pincushioned horse and Carl's hat and presume he's dead by now.
