Re: Chapter 14.4: Shootout at the Weeping Moon Lodge

It's not that the blade doesn't hit...it's just that the giant doesn't seem to feel the stabs. It does seem somewhat annoyed, though, and backhands the boy, sending him staggering back.

While Jake is watching this, he feels something scramble up his leg, hop up his waist, then grab his throat and squeeze...

((OOC: Lurch stands from Prone and makes an attack against Danny.

19:44, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 6,2 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 6,2. Gooooooooo Awaaaaaaaay. *smash!*.

That's a hit.

19:45, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 3,3 using d10,d4, rerolling max with rolls of 3,3. Damage. 6 damage total, which makes Danny Shaken.

The thing emerge from hiding, scuttles up Jake's back, and attempts to strangle him. It's an Animate Hand (obviously) so it has that monster's Strangulation ability, meaning it needs a simple Raise on a fighting roll to start choking Jake.

19:49, Today: The Stray rolled 4 using 1d10, rerolling max with rolls of 4. it's creepy and it's kooky! That's a Hit against Jake's low Parry, but no raise.

Damage: 19:50, Today: The Stray rolled 3 using 1d8, rerolling max with rolls of 3. Damage. jake isn't terribly hurt.

Jake does, however, need to make another fear check because "OMG Animate Severed hand!"

Attacking it back is going to be tricky because not only is it Small (-2 to hit), it has Improved Dodge (-2 to hit with Shooting and Throwing, +2 Agility Vs. Area effects).

Cards for monsters next round:

Thing: 8C
Mr. Lurch: 3D))

Re: Chapter 14.4: Shootout at the Weeping Moon Lodge

"Why the hell is there a hand crawling around?" Jake asks rhetorically, as though he's seen this sort of thing before. The huckster debts the use of arcane forces before just trying to shoot the thing

OOC:
08:47, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 6,2 using 1d8-1,1d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 7,3. Spirit (-4 Fear +3 Grit).
-4 to hit.. this should be good.
09:08, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 4,7 using 1d8-1,1d6-4, rerolling max with rolls of 5,(6+5)11. Shooting.
That's a hit!
09:08, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 6 using 2d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 2,3. Damage.
Just not alot of damage

09:10, Today: Jake Lawrence drew the 2 cards: 6D, 8D using a deck of 54 cards. Initiative (Jake, Danny).

Re: Chapter 14.4: Shootout at the Weeping Moon Lodge

Shooting a gun so near his own head leaves a ringing in Jake's ears, but he's satisfied with the result as the twitching human hand drops off. it's still moving, however...the bullet must only have stunned it.

Danny shouts something, probably a sarcastic response to jake's rhetorical question, but Jake can't hear it at the moment.

((OOC: Nice. 7 is enough to hit the thing's Parry of 7(!) and 6 is just enough to match the thing's Toughness, so it's Shaken.

Also, make a Vigor roll. You just shot a gun near your own head. That bullet is loud. If you succeed, the tinnitus lasts a turn. On a fail, the ringing lasts the rest of the encounter. (treat this as the minor version of the Hard of Hearing hindrance).))

Danny Boy manages to clear the cobwebs but not fast enough to do much else.

OOC:

Danny's stabs don't even seem to annoy the giant.

Jake, however, has a more pressing problem as the scuttling hand starts crawling toward him again...

((OOC: 09:25, Today: The Stray rolled 2 using 1d10, rerolling max with rolls of 2. The Thing lives! But he doesn't unshake, so the crawling is just narrative convenience.

Jake looks at the hand with disgust. "Get off me you rejected science experiment!" He raises his free hand and a trio of cards appear which he flings at the abomination.

OOC: Let's just bolt this thing... one 3d6 both coming right up!
12:39, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 25,1 using 1d10-4,1d6-4, rerolling max with rolls of (10+10+9)29,5. SpellCasting (3d6 Bolt).

The ghostly bolt rips through the animate hand, tearing a hole right though the palm. It twitches for a few moments, then lies still.

The giant doesn't seem to notice or care. He's still trying to swat the Irishman, who has enough sense to duck.

((OOC: 10:05, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 4,1 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,1. swing batter batter. No hitter.

Re: Chapter 14.4: Shootout at the Weeping Moon Lodge

Jake unleashes more arcane might, this time a trio of cards each finding their mark on Mr. Lurch, unfortunately on of them explodes alittle sooner than Jake had anticipated, and the huckster is momentarily blinded!

OOC:
12:38, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 8,6,1,8 using 1d10,1d10,1d10,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 8,6,1,(6+2)8. SpellCasting (3x2d6 Bolts).
The 1 will shake but still 3 successes, 2 with raises isn't bad.
12:39, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 6,9,11 using 3d6,3d6,2d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2,2,4,3,2,4,(6+1)7. Damage.
So a nada, shaken and shaken (aka wound)
12:41, Today: Jake Lawrence drew the single card: 4D using a deck of 54 cards. Initiative.

PP: 5/10
Danny Boy once again tries held a hand but Jake's dagger apparently isn't made for fighting with.

OOC:
12:51, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 8,4 using 1d8,1d6. Fighting.
Hit
12:51, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 3,2 using 1d6,1d4. Damage.
Not even a scratch

Re: Chapter 14.4: Shootout at the Weeping Moon Lodge

The giant stagger back, his foot blown to bloody chunks by the explosive cards. But amazingly, he's still standing!

"Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww." he complains, then rears back and punches Jake full on in the face. The huckster feels the bones grind at the stike...and then the giant swings again, this time a hammer blow to the chest, and Jake could swear he feels the ribs cracking...

((OOC: He takes a Wound, which, given he's at three wounds, would normally make him Incapacitated.

However, since he's an amalgam of sewn-together corpses, this simply means that one of his stolen parts fails.

10:19, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 10 using 2d6. my what fell off? Leg. He now has the Lame hindrance. His pace is now 4, and his running die is a d4.

Om his turn, he rolls to recover from Shaken: 10:28, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 5,5 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,5. unshake. That gives him an action with an MAP (he doesn't suffer any wound penalties because he is, in fact, undead)

He takes a swing at Jake: 10:30, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 7,-1 using d8-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of (8+1)9,1. Lurch Smash! Hit.

Damage: 10:31, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 5,2 using d10,d4, rerolling max with rolls of 5,2. Damage. That's a total of 7, leaving Jake Shaken. Since he was Shaken already, that becomes a Wound unless you soak.

Card for next round: KC Ack! Higher than BOTH your characters!

He gets to go again!

Swing at Jake: 10:36, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 7,5 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,5. Lurch Smash!  Another hit.

Damage: 10:36, Today: Mr. Lurch rolled 16,1 using d10,d4, rerolling max with rolls of (10+6)16,1. Damage. 17! Ow. That's 3 wounds. Unless jake soaks the first attack, he'll be Incapacitated.

Card for the round after: KC again!))

14:55, Today: Jake Lawrence rolled 5,1 using 1d6,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,1. Soak Roll x2.
Well that's a 6... so 2 wounds for Jake

Danny Boy swings for the fences but can't seem to make a dent in the big man's flesh.
OOC:

Jake can't seem to get the stars out of his eyes from the big brute's punch.

The pair limp along the roads, heading back past the barricades. It seems like most folk are already huddled and hidden...the streets are deserted and there's no lights on anywhere.

As the pair heads toward the Grand Bull Saloon (Danny mentioned he'd seen Evans taking the clank that way earlier), they spot a commotion. Someone is running, popping off shots into the darkness.

"To arms! To arms! Monsters at the Grand Bull!" he shouts, though he's still some distance away.

The smell of formaldehyde seems to be a factor, or maybe it's the fact that he was punched half to heck by a giant, stitched-together corpse not fifteen minutes ago...

Wait. Formaldehyde. On the ground. Smashed bottles...something wrecked this place good. Maybe he could lure the crows in here, light a match, and set the fumes on fire...or maybe there's some spare supplies somewhere.

The question is, does he have the time for another, more thorough search? Those things were flying pretty quickly...

Danny's still there, waiting. "Did ye find what you were lookin' for?" he asks. He points back to the Grand Bull. "The crows vanished. Saw 'em just up and disappear. Freaky thing, really."

It's true. The crows seem to be gone, though Jake knows they're just hiding, waiting to strike...

But there's no sign of them. Just a pair of men with guns, heading for the Grand Bull...and the clank, stepping out of the swinging doors of the same.
