Re: The Shrike and The Grizzly

The trio that Itza-chu is attempting to flee from all do their best to prevent the psychotic savage from getting too far away, but only Charging Bear manages to connect with his tomahawk.

OOC: First up Charging Bear
08:46, Today: Charging Bear rolled 15,11 using 1d10+3,1d6+3, rerolling max with rolls of (10+2)12,(6+2)8. Fighting (+2 Gang,+1TMW).
15 vs 11 is a hit w/ a raise!
08:46, Today: Charging Bear rolled 3,7,2 using 1d8+1,1d6+2,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,5,2. Damage (Str, Tomahawk, Raise).
12 damage vs 7 is a wound

Next is the totem
08:47, Today: Charging Bear rolled 4,5 using 1d8+2,1d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 2,3. Totem Fighting (+2 Gang up).
Swing and a miss! Burn the totem's red chip to a +d6 to that
08:48, Today: Charging Bear rolled 2 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2. Red Chip.
7 still misses w/ only 1 white chip left

And last but not least Jeb
08:51, Today: Charging Bear rolled 4 using 1d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 2. Jeb - Fighting (+2 Gang).
Sadly he too misses

Re: The Shrike and The Grizzly

The blow from the Tomahawk, however, cuts deep into Itza-chu's leg, severing his tendon and sending him stumbling to the ground.

He snarls, then uses the spear as a crude crutch to get to his feet and continue hobbling away as fast as his feet can take him...but right now, he's no longer "swifter than any horse" and is just as fast as any normal man.

((OOC: 21:50, Today: Itza-Chu rolled 2,3 using d8-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 3,4. Soak! Fail. Itza-chu takes a wound and is Shaken, which lowers his Pace. Since being Shaken doesn't stop his movement, he continues his action. His Pace is down to 6 (he has the Fleet-footed edge), so he's easily reachable. However, he also has the First Strike edge, so if Charging Bear or one of his minions gets close enough to get into Melee with him, he gets a free attack. It's CB's action))

Re: The Shrike and The Grizzly

Jeb picks up the spear...and snaps it in half. "There. Ain't gonna be no good to anyone no more." He says. Given he'd probably been stabbed with it, his anger toward that weapon is probably well-founded.

Itza-chu also had a steel knife on him. Charging Bear is able to bind the Apache with rope from the altar where Jeb had been tied, and gag him, too.

The Grizzly leads the trio out of the thorns, away from the murder tree. "We must travel to a sacred place." She says. "There, we can perform the ritual of cleansing. It will remove the taint from your name and place it where it belongs. Once this is finished, Itza-chu will never again be able to hide his misdeeds behind your good name, and when you are restored with your true name, you will have the power to cause him lasting harm, even through Shrike still lives."

"What will that do for the law?" Jeb says. "Will he still be wanted?"

The Grizzly shrugs. "He will be absolved in the eyes of the spirits."

"That's not an answer."

"Mortals have their own mind. I cannot give guidance there."

"It is good. Now for the hard part. We will first begin with a cleansing. I will teach you my special song, which you will need to sing as you do this. Then, you will need to be tied to me forever. We will do this through scarification and tattoo, of myself, of you, and of the Apache. His will be the most difficult, as his flesh resists permanent marks. Re: The Shrike and The Grizzly

Charging Bear prepares the sage and Sweetgrass, weaving the plants into a braid. He sets the grass braid into the shell and sets it on fire, then uses the feather to direct the smoke. First he directs it over himself, letting the pungent sage smoke wash over him and carry his sins away. Then he does the same to the Grizzly, wafting the smoke over her with the feather. The wounds and sores on her hide seem a little less gangrenous and sour, though she's still clearly in pain. Last of all, he flicks the feather at Itza-chu, who glares at him and strains against his bonds.

Making the ink out of the ashes turns out to be the hardest part. He has to make the ash and water mixture just right. Too thick, and it gets clumpy and is of no use. Too thin, and the ash ink will just dribble away. He has to burn all the sage and sweetgrass he brought to get enough ink.

The next part of the process is shaving a small patch of the Grizzly's hide and then using the cactus needle to make the painstaking dots the tattoo requires. This isn't a task he's had much practice with...he wouldn't want to harm his totem further.

((OOC: That roll will cover learning the song and performing the cleansing. Now for the Tattoo and scarification.

First, draw a card to check for Complications. If no complications show up, make a Smarts check at -2 to mark the Bear with the proper symbols. If a Complication DOES show up, well, I'll get to that.))

The inking process is long and painful, and the skin around the tattoo is puffed and swollen by the time Charging Bear is done, but he's able to work through the pain. Once he's done, he feels amazingly cleansed, as if a terrible weight had been lifted from him.

((OOC: Sweet! That's 5 successes altogether. What that means is you've passed the Dramatic Task challenge.

You lose the Cursed Mysterious Past and the Bad Luck hindrance that goes with it. You gain the Knack (Spirit touched--Bear) edge (you gain a power you can activate with a Spirit roll, though you have a limited number of Power Points) and the Elan edge (+2 bonus to rolls you spend Fate Chips on, including Soak rolls and rolls with Red or Blue chips added to the total). Because you're Charging Bear, you also gain the Trouble Magnet (Major) Hindrance from Last Sons (at least Once per session, the character experiences trouble of some sort).
