Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

[pokes game] All right: if Jake wasn't on Hold before he is now, making it Adrian's go. If we're sticking with combat (are we? I get a sense I'm failing to engage here; help me out).

To return briefly to a prior topic, I have an inherent interest in things to do with the manipulation of the past given my profession, but maybe someone else will find this article ( http://www.pastemagazine.com/a...noir-and-the-17.html
) on modern storytelling vs. what actually happens after a long war (in this case two world wars close together) quite interesting.

Takes a little wading past the author's mortification at not noticing the Hollywood gender ratio in a game under review until having it pointed out, but I find the stuff about The Big Sleep fascinating.

Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

I'm not sure what the Combat vs. Situation question meant. I couldn't find rules for anything termed a "Situation," presuming you meant to use it as a term of art. Some type of explanation of the options or page reference might be helpful - at least for me.

Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

Ah, sorry, I meant it in the sense of a defined event.

Like...do y'all read this as combat (requiring a clear order of who can move where/attack what when), or just a fast-paced happening (which could be freeform, though I'd worry about our less active/powered-up players' involvement)?

Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

When there's danger to our characters, I strongly prefer the formal structure of Combat rounds. At the very least, if we're outside of Combat and some combat action starts, it should put us into Combat.

Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

Yeah, I agree with Adrian. The formal turn structure helps out a lot, and I've tried to run freeform situations that just ended up a mess because noone knew when they were going and they wound up waiting for others.

I took an action in my last post. It was, I believe, a failed Fightin' roll against Marina. Another stabbity stab.

Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

Oh...I'm not sure how I missed that, but you don't need to roll to hit an incap'd or immobilised person or thing, so if you want to leave another stake in her you can.

Amusingly, locking her up would currently do her good, as it'd stop her Bleeding Out and going dormant. Just out of interest, why does Adrian hate her so much anyway? Religious upbringing?

General notice:
since I'm going to have to do a loooot of rolls for this next bit and I have a busy weekend this week, it'll probably be tommorrow night/Monday.

She's a murderer who has killed people in this town (with recently evidenced glee, actual malice, and utter remorselessness) and he feels strongly that she deserves justice. And he is a little vengeful.

Re: And The Cows Will Dig Your Grave

Handin' out the vicious non-judicial vengeance like a true Dust Adder...I probably shouldn't feel somehow obscurely proud of him, but I do.

I feel kinda bad for the mine gang, though...even if they survive the shennanigans down there, they're going to come back to find some of the ranch - and probably some of the cows - burnt down and Blackthorn's situation set back years if they have to rebury the Rock/silver seams to keep Tez down. Plus if y'all die and the Floor Beastie gets trapped down there, she is going to be both very hungry and very annoyed by the time anyone lets her out...

On a less gloomy note, I am disproportionately entertained by the fact that Carl's been out of his tree for about a year now.

I suppose there is probably a functioning judicial process in Blackthorn right now somewhere. Or not. ;)

Well, both the local circuit judge and the circuit lawyer were Marina's victims, so...not so much on the judicial side.

...in a poison gas cloud. Oh man, would his Death Wound be smelling like a swimming pool for eternity?

Wading on in there was pretty suicidal though, got to say. Is the rag soaked with pee, or what there?

Pee would actually be more effective than anything from a canteen, since uric acid reacts with chlorine to make a relatively harmless salt (go WWI history lessons!).

Of course, since it was a sinister magical mist, maybe it'd have to be virgin urine or something.

Wouldn't be Tex. He was always ugly, but he wasn't always supernaturally hideous, and his brother encouraged him to have fun at the brothel at the train camp.
