To the best of my knowledge, the only thing pending from my end is the specifics of the magical item.  I just kicked you a PM on the subject.

Re: Out of Character chat

I've got my concept down (Elven Ranger with the Beast Rider kit) and have my character sheet mostly done, save equipment. Will have it done by Tuesday, latest!

Hey, what Gods will we be using?
I mean... it's not like it would matter to a guy like me, right?

Memorizing spells?  Do we have to list what we memorize?

I think I am done and ready to go.

In your travels, you have found many different gods who hold sway where they have followers. Your own deities, however, are of the Norse persuasion.

Yes, mages must list the spells they have chosen.

if you check the House Rules thread, you will find a house rule that allows mages to have a target spell that they can turn any memorized spell of the same level into at will, the way clerics can turn any spell into a cure spell of the same level.

Re: Out of Character chat

Zydeco? Or the kinds of things Andy Griffin used to sing, like Hang Down Your Hear Tom Dooley?

Anyway, it looks like all of the characters will be done very soon, so I have a hoped for start date this Thursday!

Re: Out of Character chat

My initial post will have a lot of back story. If there is anything in particular you would like me to say about your character or history 9or anything you don't want me to say) please PM me prior to the grand opening.

Also please remember, as it is the first post of the game, none of it is carved in stone, and I can amend things if they conflict with your idea sense of character.

Want to lurk, and I can introduce you to the party when things loosen up a bit for you in RL? It would be a shame to lose you.

In reply to ADM (msg #56):

Lurk, lurk, you will enjoy it and when you feel your free time in R/L can do for some gaming, jump in.

Now of course Thatch should be happy the Barbarian was going to sit this one out.  Being of magic origin and use, Barbarians kinda get jumpy around him, which can be UNhealthy to a mage. :)

But lurk and come back right when we need you :)

Re: Out of Character chat

I like the write up, but apparently my character as designed is entirely too young.

If we marched out 25 years ago and we were, we'd all be at least 40 or so now.  Is that the intent?

I thought of the option that perhaps our fathers were the original soldiers and we're their bastard offspring with the camp followers, but then vast chunks of my background will have to be dumped and reworked.

Or maybe we joined the forces much later and therefor our characters aren't all that old after all.

I just want to an idea of which way to jump here.

Guys I'm so very sorry, my modem broke and I had to get a new one, but they wouldn't sell one without some bureaucratic stuff first.

I'm back online though

Re: Out of Character chat

Welcome back Brightblade, glad you've made it!

Shank has a good point, I was working on the premise that your backgrounds were your life up to the time of the start of the war.

In essence, you have all played in this game since then, but we rushed over a few things.

Is that a problem for anyone?

Re: Out of Character chat

Nice background !  Very reminiscent of Michael Moorcock's works. :>

Only change I need to make to my char is to bump age up to 40.  Figure 7 might have been a teensy bit young to be marching off to war, but 15 is workable.

Re: Out of Character chat

That's a really cool background!

To make sure I've got this straight - with apologies for any gaffs...

We've all been fighting together for 25 years.  We marched off to war together and have served that time as auxiliaries.  And now the war's over, and we're headed home?

Or did I miss something?

Given that, we should all know each other very well, right?

Re: Out of Character chat

I have just added the final chapter, which I hope will clarify things. You've all known each other for most of the intervening time. How well you choose to like each other is up to you guys, from personal experience I can tell you the army breeds an amazing camaraderie, but it is not the same thing as friend ship. If any of you choose to be friends, that is, as I said, up to you.

All I request, in role-playing terms, is that you all share the required devotion to returning home to give the game momentum. It doesn't have to last the entire game, but I am using it as the mechanism that should hold you all together until (hopefully) you all find a bond of your own to each other.

There is clearly room for conflict among you, but comrades find a way to make it work, even if they don't like each other.

The thread is now active, as well, so please feel free to start posting.

As an aside, Shank has shared a concern about the duration of the war. Obviously the elf has little interest in if it is ten twenty or a hundred, but the humans might. This time frame is open to debate if requested, but as the background should make clear, it does have to be quite some time.

Re: Out of Character chat

I'll work with the time frame as is, but I'll have to figure out how to tweak my background and pick a more fitting picture.

I can trim ten years off of it, if that helps any.

Re: Out of Character chat

In reply to The Dreamer of Worlds (msg #67):

As a human, yea trimming 10 years would be nice, being too old to make it home but older and not full of youth works say unless you had some story line where we did not age quiet so quickly due to a magical slow spell or item or something in some battle or some horrific effect by some power hunger person or event that instead of aging us made us younger or slowed our aging process??  Who knows maybe it goes on now and might be a hint that we know something is up and home may be our best course to reverse this??
