Good morning campers.

Description is up... as are pictures of Darius' sweet rides. Oh to be the Golden Boy with the rich Mom and Dad. ;-)

For those that don't know:

Darius is the schools Golden Boy. All around Nice Guy to anyone and everyone, Honor Roll student, and starting QB for the schools Varsity Football team. He's on the Varsity Basketball Team in the winter (He's good, but not the star player in that sport).

Three words to describe Darius: "Upstanding", "Competitive", "Over-protective".

Over-Protective I'm assuming covers his little sister primarily, and likely anyone else he decides might be in need.

The "Powers That Be" of Ambrose Jepson intend students to receive a well-rounded, eclectic education.  You'll get equal parts arts, sciences, liberal arts, social sciences, and athletics.  Think of any classes you think your character would take and pm me an ideal "schedule".

I'll tally the results and pair characters by the most popular choices.

I got a post in on the soundtrack thread, but haven't really been able to introduce myselves.

I'll be taking NPC duties for both Gabriel Booke and Caitlyn Bell, the joint proprietors of Bell & Booke. It's a quiet little used-and-rare bookstore in Columbia Square, known throughout the state for its wide-ranging selection, Mr. Booke's phenomenal ability to identify a desired item from even sketchy descriptions, and his extensive contacts (and corresponding ability to procure almost anything a customer might want).

Caitlyn is known to the clued-in as a practitioner of the Old Faith who also occasionally sings and plays the piano at one of the local coffee houses.

Sorry I was so terse; I got cut off by a student coming in and didn't get to finish until I had to race out the door to go teach. Mostly, I was being sure that I wasn't being expected to know something that I don't, yet.

This sort of thing happens from time to time in one of the other games I play with the ST. She's always come back after a while, I just imagine things are a little hectic for her. If we're patient the game will get back on track again eventually.

As a heads up:

I was informed yesterday I need to be in Norfolk, VA by 26April2010 to meet a boat upon which I will be deployed through 17June2010. The boat has underway connectivity, and rpol isn't a blocked site in so far as I know. So, while I'm 100% sure capability will exist for me to maintain posting, it may take a day or two for me to settle in and determine the WHERE and WHEN the optimal times for me to do so will be. I've never been on a boat of this size/class, so I have no idea on the availability of workstations and what not. As the Sys Admin I'm fairly confident that I should be able to set myself up a sufficient window of privacy right quick.

Which Ugly gray thing did you have to go to?

A fair number are, I'll give you that (especially the newer 'younger' generation IMO).

In my experience though, it's not limited to just CG members.

I've got friends across the boards, in pretty much every branch... and all around the world. I'm about as social as social gets.

The Air Farce guys in A school wouldn't do ANYTHING with us.. the CG, Marines, Army and Kuwaiti guys all hung together with us.

Ya, the CG goes out further then most people think. They have a cutter in the Persian gulf and during the Russian Goergia war, a cutter deleivered suppies to Goergia.  I get sea sick so anything on a boat was out.  I did the army but I am out now.

Yeah we had CG cutters in the gulf, mixing in and out of our carrier group on all deployments.. and they suffered for a  LONG time for being part of the DoT.

9/11 and the creation of DoHS helped them out a lot (one of the rational changes coming out of 9/11 in my opinion)

Sadly the current Administration doesn't share that viewpoint, and is projecting cuts to all of the Anti-Terrorism outfits the CG picked up post 9/11. They want the focus to shift back to the "Search and Rescue" venue and away from Homeland Security.

Ya, we can't let any of the rich boaters sink.  It was good to put CG in DHS but your right, the current admin is short sighted when it comes to terrorists.  The CG was also doing a lot in Drug enforcement.

Might be wise to use some of those forces against the pirates off Somalia... although I beleive they all use a single port so perhaps a single nuke could solve that problem.

We need to build a proper infrastructure and government out there. (And by us, I mean the world governments as a whole).

We would have a LOT less problems in the middle east if we had followed ALL of Charlie Wilson's plan and build infrastructure in Afghanistan after we ran the Russians out in the 80s.

For the sake of story, we're speeding up your introduction to the hidden side of Bell & Booke. Under more "normal" circumstances (like in a face-to-face game), it would be as much as half a dozen episodes from when Caitlin and I first stepped onto the stage before there was any inkling that we were more than a used-and-rare bookstore.

So, for now, when it comes to volumes occult and magickal, if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, figure you might not find it... yet. (As we get more established, and people learn more about Gabe & Cait, that'll change.)

I probably would not be looking for any magic unless it was beauty aids.

If I'm aware of it and its efficacy, I may well be looking for magic... failing that, physics would be nice... but I didn't go, I'm still at school with Garrett.

Thanks for the post, GMliness! I had an...interesting experience on Monday that pretty much has thrown me out of sorts. More or less, some dude almost ran me off the road, then totalled his car right in front of me, then I had to go and help him because it was raining and he wrecked power lines, and was screaming and bleeding all over the place.

Worst part is I'm not a cop or EMT...so yeah, being covered in someone else's blood, in the rain, while they're screaming and the siren's are getting closer but aren't there yet kinda sucks.

Something WRONG... a cleric who relied on intelligence and dexterity rather than wisdom perhaps.... or maybe the most charismatic half-orc in the history of orc-kind.

My D&D characters were always elves or magic-users. That said, I really, really like several of the characters from 4th Ed. (I've got a resilient weeble-wobble... that is, battlemind... in one game, and love me some warlocks and swordmages.)

Ick. 4e.  Sorry it's just too painful. They totally destroed the game for me.

Of course folks say the something about Pathfindet, so to each their own.

Although I skipped 3.X entirely, and consequently don't have any real attraction to Pathfinder, I dislike 3.X's reputation for system mastery as an expected requirement as opposed to an emergent property.

I really dislike the 'MMO'ing of 4e, 3e is more of 'stuff bolted' on than a revamp of the system.

I'm kind of with BJ on that one, but then, I don't really do table-topping anymore. I had a bunch of lame/crappy experiences that have turned me off to that whole bit of RP'ing. That's all I got :/

Sorry been a away the last two days, I'm pretty sleep deprived but I'll chime in while I'm still awake. I'm going to be begin honestly by saying that I've never really played 4th ed, I've looked at a whole lot of the books but the MMO feeling throws me off too. It feels far too much like playing WoW, which I honestly love.
It does however take away from the ability to do nearly anything in 3.5, which was part of the allure behind 3rd ed in general, in 4th it just feels like they closed up anything that even had the potential to be abused. In doing so I feel that they lobotomized the game, dumbed it down to the lowest common denominator.

The classes that I have normally played have been primarily Druid, Wizard, and Rogue. Generally a combination of 2 of them. My favourite races were generally Elves or Half Elves, or something a little more mystical in bent.

My characters in other games tend to be quite a bit more diverse, I've been playing a very social character for the last year in one of my games, and she's definitely one of my favourite characters I've ever played.

Big D&D v3.5 fan here. I **REALLY** loved the SAGA rules for the Star Wars ruleset, and was bummed that v4 wasn't closer to that prototype of the next generation rules.

I used to not understand people would couldn't let go of the "clunky" AD&D rules... but now that my own preference has been outdated, I can finally understand where they were coming from (even if I find v3.5 MUCH better to my line of thinking).

Part of it is nostalgia (a lot of us have that) part of it is that you only had to do Thac0 to hit, no worry about scaling for size and the rest.

Another poll:  I'm revisiting the idea of making this a true reboot.  "BtVS Year One" would start no later than 2009.  There are "toys" in the setting which I can't play with if I go with 1997.  Plus, I think it might be easier on the players if we're not making everything retro.

Thoughts?  Let me know if you're in favor of sticking with "Retro Reboot" or being up-to-date.  I'll abide by majority vote.

Well, if you switch up the years... the Darius' vehicular perks will likewise shift to more modern variants ;-)

Naturally!  Just like Chan could probably work with a digital "Sketchpad" like we see on Project Runway or Melba might have a SINFUL amount of Engineering & Chemistry manuals stored on an E-book.  :)

I guess what I'm getting at is that I've struggled with the game because I want it to be true to the spirit of Buffy, but not beholden with what's gone before.   Part of me thinks a shift forward in time might help.  There was talk of rebooting the Buffy franchise last year.  This game plays along those lines without the lameness of ripping off Twilight or The Vampire Diaries (I hope!).

BTW, Darius, I need a Fear Check from you.  :)

Of course, Melba could always work on a nuke as a "1st Level Character Project".  The Nanotech could come when you're buying mad ranks of Super-Scientist.

I think that a modern setting would probably be a whole lot more fun. Especially then we don't have to worry about what was going on at the time. Besides it allows way more fun with tech, and should open up some new places for the plot to go.

If anyone goes to Vinnie Van-Go-Go's: it's regarded as the best pizza in Savannah!  Huge pies served up in a cafe-style pizzeria with outdoor city at the west end of City Market.  There's a candy/ice-cream shop called "Tubby's" next door.

There's also a square devoted to African-American veterans and the First African Baptist Church not far away.  The church is old and famous for being a stop along the "Underground Railroad".

Right well... if there's no school, Melba is ON the Pizza (and no doubt violating the rules on Kosher - cheeze and meat on the same delicious slice let alone the same plate... hmm, she could ask them to provide it on a tray instead of a plate so that she meets the letter of the law)

Umm... It think having it in the same meal is part of that. Only way you can do the milk and meat thing 'legally' is with fish. The letter of the law is pretty hard to follow as it's generally translated from the Hebrew. Not that very many Jews follow it all that closely these days, except maybe during passover.

Yesterday was a great day at work, I got Halo: Reach...and on the way home, some emotional girl decides to drive, is way too close, and slams into my car at a red light. Fun times.

I have an incredibly sore side and stiff neck as of this morning, and it's going to be a day or two before I feel 100%.

@Chan if there is a loophole that allows pepperoni pizzas, then Melba will have found it.  She is fluent in Hebrew.  I know there isn't really a loophole, but Melba will try.

The stinger would be something like a season 1 cut to the Master at the end of an episode that sets up something coming farther down the pike. They didn't tend to get used too much until the later seasons, IIRC. (Been a long time since I've watched any BtVS or AtS, since I've got 2 kids under 6.)

Or scenes like.. the last scene of the next to last season where Spike has run the gauntlet and gets his soul back.

I have a question. What's the difference between XP and Drama Points?

Xp can increase Traits, Skills, Attributes, buy off flaws..

DP is used for Dramatic actions. :D

Drama Points can boost roles on special occasions, reduce damage from hits, buy a "plot twist", or even bring your character back from the dead!

I'd like to spend some for more scenes next game. :D

I went by the Rulebook for "Thrown Weapon".  I'll allow a substitution of "Sports" for "GM", though.  The -1 penalty still applies, though.

It's not a waste, it's purely in-character. Darius is the school's Star Athlete after all... and to him, sports (and women) are all the drama he knows :)

I agree with Darius, if it is something the advances the plot, it is worth spending a drama point on. If I had thought about it, I would have used it to bash Brian myself.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Darius was the ONLY person that thought about it!  LOL  I also agree that it's highly in character for someone like Darius to use it.  Not only the competition factor, but the honor portion as well.

Brian is an ass-wipe and Darius, while part of the social "Upper Echelon", has demonstrated some honor already.  More to come on this point--but, for now, HIT THE SHOWERS!  :p

The only Sailing Vessel serving in Active Duty Status in any of the branches of the US Military)... Mind you, I'm an IT... but I *DID* learn a lot about traditional sailing while I was assigned there :)

As an FYI (or reminder to those that have had heads up given elsewhere)...

For the past two weeks, I've been prepping to wrap up my work-life here in Detroit. Friday will be my last day. Immediately after work I'll be driving eight and a half hours home for the Holiday weekend. I'll return to Detroit on Wends to meet with the moving company (who will be packing all of my belongings on Thursday, and then taking them all away on Friday). That weekend the wife and I will be cleaning this place top to bottom, and patching holes, and priming walls before we finally get on the road for California on Monday. Aiming to be there by that Friday... but the Moving Company has our window to recieve all of our House Hold goods up until the 19th (could be nine days there without our stuff... blah).

So, what's that mean?

1.) I'll be VERY busy IRL for the next 2-3 weeks. Long days of driving, quality road-time with the wife, cheap hotels, and sleeping... then unpacking eventually.
2.) I'll be restricted to posting from my iphone (COMCAST is already off, and the computer safely packaged). Updates are possible, but length/quality may suffer as a result.
3.) Thank the sweet lord for smart phones and nationwide coverage! Yay VERIZON!
