"I don't like the Empire," Jack replied bluntly.  "I want to know if there's something I can do about that."

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

"A bold statement for one moving about on an Imperial-controlled station," Cecil Vane said.  "And perhaps a dangerous one.  And what makes you think I would know anything about 'doing something about the Empire'?" one of his eyebrows raised as he asked the question.

"The rumor mill," Jack explained.  "I hear you and the Imps don't get along very well."

Vane leaned back in his chair.  "Well I'm glad to see there are no kinks in the rumor mill.  Very well, if you want to make a difference, I have heard that there is going to be a meeting of individuals with like minds at Gundark's Cantina in one hour.  Meet me there."  Vane turned his chair back around to face the casino floor, considering the conversation over.

Jack nodded and left the casino.  As he exited, a young man in a brown cloak and hood bumped into him.  The young man had brown hair, parted in the middle, and was dressed like a thief might be.  He muttered a quick apology to Jack and then moved on.

Jack quickly checked to make sure he had not been robbed.

He was able to account for all of his belongings, so he dismissed the incident and having nothing else to do Jack headed to the Cantina right away and sat down in a shadowy booth where he could sit and think.

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

Just before Jack sat down he noticed Connus  in the next booth over speaking to a massive Chevin who looked old, even for his species.  His trunk hung low and scars crossed his face, giving him a weathered look that matched his leathery skin.  His clothes were little more than rags.  The two were speaking in low whispers.

Jack rolled a 15 (no mods) on his Perception check to listen in on the conversation.

Jack was able to hear Connus say:
"So you see Ganga, my employer can offer you the best services."  Connus said, sounding confident.

"I'm afraid I will no longer need your boss's services," the pachydermoid replied.  "I have just made a deal that will solidify my position on this station."

"But surely my employer could offer you something to help you," Connus countered, now sounding desperate.

"I'm afraid that to me they are not worth the price at which they are offered," the Chevin said.

"Ganga, surely you don't undervalue these services," Connus argued.

"No, but apparently you overvalue my need for them," Ganga thundered.  He then stood up and exited the cantina.

Jack could hear the disappointed sigh from Connus, who slowly got up, headed over to the bar, and ordered a heavy drink.

Jack continued to wait for his meeting to start.  The conversation was interesting, but Jack wasn't going to get involved in other peoples affairs just yet.

It wasn't long before Vane showed up, now with a dark cloak and hood on.  As he sat next to you, he lowered his hood.  "I'm surprised you're the first one here," Vane said.  I would have thought our contact would be here before I even mentioned the meeting to you."

"Oh, you probably mean Connus over there," Jack said taking an stab in the dark at the contacts identity and hoping fortune was on his side.

Vane looked in the direction Jack was pointing.  "What the Twi'lek?" Vane asked.  "No, I don't know who that is, but he is not our contact.  Our contact is a Human female.  And she really should have been here by now.  Something must have gone wrong, we should leave."  Vane stood up, pulling his hood back up.

"Oh, is her name Maya Samaris?" Jack asked, taking another stab in the dark.  He stood up casually from his booth.

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

"No, it's something more than that," Vane said.  "My sources let me know about customs.  They found nothing and she was allowed on station some time ago.  Something else has happened.  We must leave.  Now!"  Vane sounded very concerned.  "And you might want to tell your Twi'lek friend to leave too.  The Empire must have heard about our meeting.  Even though the bartender doesn't mind non-Humans here, I doubt the Empire will take too kindly to one being in the vicinity of a resistance meeting."  And then Vane took off out of the cantina quickly and into the Promenade.

Jack rolled his eyes, then quickly took a hold of Connus' arm and leaned in close.  "You should probably get out of here, the Empire might be taking an interest in this place soon."

Connus started.  He hadn't known Jack was there, and was surprised at Jack suddenly approaching him.  "Oh, it's just you," he said, calm now that he knew to whom he was speaking.  "Jack, right?  Thanks for the warning.  I may be depressed, but I don't think having a run in with the Empire will help that.  Do you mind if I come with you, where ever it is you're going?  It's not like I can go back to my employer now."

"Sure," Jack said, shrugging.  If Vane cared he'd say something when he noticed.  Jack doubted Connus would prove untrustworthy; at least in regards to the Empire.

By the time you walked out of the cantina, Vane was not in the immediate vicinity.

Jack could see Vane's hooded figure through the crowd up ahead, just about to turn the corner into another open area on the Promenade.

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

Connus followed Jack, since Jack said he could come with him.

As Jack and Connus rounded the corner, Vane was no where in sight.  There were only a handful of citizens milling about in this main area of the Promenade, a few of them gazing out the massive windows at the planet Brentaal hovering below.  Jack also noted the young man in the hooded cloak who had bumped into him just outside of the casino sat dejectedly on a bench, his head in his hands.

Jack noticed the young man from earlier.  Something told him that there was more to this meeting than serendipity, and since he couldn't find Vane, Jack sat down next to him.

"Got a problem?" Jack asked.

The young man started, as if he had been in a trance or something.  "What? Oh, no, not really.  I...I just feel like I've got no direction, no purpose right now."

But before Jack could respond, things started to get crazy.
