Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

As Jack headed towards the small, run down space transport on which he'd booked passage from Agamar to Sel Zonn Station, he saw a slender woman with black hair standing at the bottom of the boarding ramp.  She was wearing a simple blue uniform worn by many mechanics and repair crews.

"Jack Shepherd, I presume?" she asked.

"I'm Maya Samaris, the current pilot for the Rising Dreamer," she said patting the ship.  "And the one Jack Shepherd contacted to transport him to Sel Zonn station," she finished cooly.

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

"So are you Jack Shepherd, or not?" Maya asked again (OOC: she's not asking or saying any of this meanly, but I'm not sure how to convey that in the text other than to put this parenthetical statement).  "Because I'm not going to wait here much longer for him."

"I thought so," Maya replied.  "You look like the Jack Shepherd I've heard about."  Then she turned to start walking up the boarding ramp.

"Sure have," Maya responded as she led Jack onto the ship.  "Youngest commander in the Separatist Army--not that that's incredibly difficult in a military mostly filled with droids.  And part of the Agamar Resistance, for the brief time it existed."

"Not really, no," Maya answered evasively.  "Truth is, there's not much to tell.  I'm from Alderaan.  I fly a transport, and," she looked at you very seriously now, "I always promise to make sure my passengers get where they're going safely and with all their possessions.  Now come on," she said to cut off further conversation.  "Let me introduce you to everyone else."  And she finished walking up the boarding ramp.

Jack cocked his eyebrow, then followed her up.  She obviously took life a little too seriously.

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

First Maya took Jack to the cockpit.  "This is Ikis Thanda, who just recently joined me as my navigator," Maya said, introducing a Zygerrian dressed in the rugged clothes of a frequent spacer.  He had the long, flowing red hair, typical of Zygerrians, with a braid in front of and behind each of his pointed ears, as well as a topknot, which fell into the rest of his long hair.  He seemed even more serious than Jack perceived Maya to be.

"Nice to meet you," he said offering Jack his hand.

"It's good to meet you too," Shepherd replied to the Zygerrian.  This Ikis seemed more like him than Maya did.

Maya then took Jack back to the passengers' quarters.  "And this is our other passenger," Maya said, this time introducing a green-skinned Twi'lek dressed in refined, but functional clothing.  He had a sly-looking smile on his face as he stood up from his seat and reached out his hand to introduce himself before Maya could.

"My name is Connus Amersu," he said.  "And you are?"

"Commander Shepard," Jack replied, taking Connus' hand and shaking it.

"Oh, Commander Shepherd."  Connus replied.  "And in what army are you a commander?  The last time I checked, the Empire was not at war." Connus had a look on his face that told Jack he had more disdain for the Empire than he did Jack's old title.

"I was a part of the Agamar Resistance," Shepherd replied brusquely.  He understood Connus' meaning, but he still didn't like his tone of voice.

"Don't worry," Connus said, leaning back against the wall and putting his hands behind his head to evoke a more relaxed manner.  "As long as your military actions don't interfere with my business or that of my employer, I have no problem with them."

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

Soon the ship was in the air and on its way.  After a long 16 hours  the ship arrived in the Brentaal system.  As the ship exited hyperspace Jack could see his destination: Sel Zonn Station.  Seemingly motionless among a sea of starships and satellites above the twinkling world of Brentaal, Sel Zonn Station grew larger in Jack's view every second. A central pylon formed the bulk of the station’s mass, and three landing platforms leading to docking bays extended from the central section, equidistant from one another and jutting out into space. The dorsal side of the station featured a disc-shaped secondary structure, on top of which blinking lights indicated the presence of a landing platform reserved for wealthy patrons.

As the door to the cockpit was open, Jack could hear some sort of customs officer talking to Maya over the comm.  "Please transmit a manifest of your cargo, crew and passengers, with planet of origin specified for each sentient."

"Why does it matter from where my passengers and crew are coming?" asked Maya.

"It's for security purposes," the officer explained, "and if it's not included in the manifest, you will not be allowed to land."

"But that's ridiculous," Maya responded, her voice rising.  Jack could see Ikis' back and shoulders tensing up as well.

"Rules are rules," was all the officer had to say.

Maya shook her head and sighed, and you could see her typing in some information (no doubt adding everyone's planet of origin) before she transmitted the manifest.

After a short wait, the customs officer replied "I will meet you in the following hangar on Yellow Deck."

"Yellow deck?  But I usually land on Green Deck." Maya answered curtly.

"Well then, you must usually have passengers that don't come from planets listed on our watch list." And Jack could hear the comm cut out.  Obviously the customs officer had nothing else to say.

Maya let out a quiet scream of frustration, but steered the ship to the designated hangar.   The ship soon landed, and as Jack exited the ship, he could see the customs officer waiting at the bottom of the landing ramp.

"Please line up for a search," the officer said to each of you, including Maya and Ikis (who now had some sort of poncho draped over his arm), as you exited the ship.

"I'll start with you," the officer said to Jack.  "Please spread your legs slightly and lift your arms straight out."

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

The customs officer sighed.  "Look I know you boys from Agamar know about the Empire," he said, obviously referring to the recent slaughter at Tondotha.  "But maybe you're not familiar with all the new laws.  Article 179 of the Constitution of the New Order," he began, rattling it off in a droll tone as if he was tired of having to explain this.  "Section XII, subsection 3 states that I have the authority to perform a search of persons and/or vessels if those persons and/or vessels come from or contain cargo from former Separatist worlds, or other worlds under suspicion of threat to the New Order without a warrant.  If necessary, I have the authority to then either put in temporary imprisonment such persons, or refuse such persons access to the station."

Ikis, standing to your left, huffed at this last statement, and muttered under his breath "Restricting travel.  How dare they."

The customs officer gave Ikis a sidelong glance, but said nothing.  Now finished with the rhetoric, the customs officer returned to his more officious self.  "Right now I'm leaning towards the latter with you, but if you continue with the attitude, I'll consider the former.  Now, legs apart, arms up," he repeated.

The customs officer performed the routine search, then said "Very well, you're clear to go.  But I'm afraid I'll have to confiscate your jet pack.  They are not allowed on the station.  You may retrieve it upon your departure from Sel Zonn Station."

Jack said nothing; simply slipping off his jet pack and handing it over.

"If there's so much as a scratch on it, it'll be your hide," he said, displaying his seriousness by not having any emotion in his voice.

Re: Journey to Sel Zonn Station (Jack Shepherd)

"Wait," Maya said before Jack finished slipping off the pack.  "Isn't there some sort of extra 'fee' we can pay to let him keep it?" she asked.

"I suppose," the customs officer mulled.

"Is this sufficient?" Maya asked, handing him a credit chip.

"Yes, this should be adequate," he admitted.  Then, turning to Jack, he said "Very well, you may keep your jet pack.  May I suggest the Green Deck for you, sir?  Just one floor up."  He then turned to Connus.  "Next!"

Maya mouthed "Get where they're going safely and with all their possessions." to Jack.

The customs officer searched Connus, but found nothing of note.  "I suggest you stay hear on the Yellow Deck or one of the lower decks," the officer said somewhat derisively after he was finished.

"And why do you suggest that?" Connus asked.

"For your own safety," the customs officer replied.
