GM:
Bell Oleander:
Now I feel like I have to up my game to compete. To the books!
This is why I said I would never let you and Hamble run characters in the same thread. Charan's player is Hamble's player as well.
Hee hee.
GM:
Funny thing is, I'm sure Charan/Hamble could build me a few MAD boss NPCs.
Bell Oleander:
...context it seems to indicate 'frightening beyond belief'.
The latter.
Murtagh Fhaolain:
Hopefully that's better...
For
me. Mwahahahaha!
Wow, is my ego stroked today! Thank you all, thank you all :)
I have no end of respect for the DM's delightful antogonists
wiser to so frame than saying 'antagonistic DM... characters' *inno*.
GM:
Well, Tandro is a higher level PC than you.
Charan's player... delights in figuring out how to work the rules to make even a low-level PC AMAZING in something
Charan was drafted up just to be a good little toady to Tandro's story, and to be able to assist in his game style, but without simply being "Tandro at -4(5?6?) levels" and thus combining the worst of being useless against the Lvl 12 encounters
and being an inferior copy character. You're not going to match a PC that far ahead of you, and you don't want to be the lodestone, with stealth on intrusion, or breaking character on subterfuge, and worst roll riding the day... it's a tough situation.
GM re: VP:
Part of me wants to make him actually perform to take advantage of it, because I love the idea of Charan having to sing something while he's sensing motive on someone -- and having Ellinden So magically seal his mouth when she wants to lie to him.
Chuckle. I actually did RP that with Charan finding the social rhythms/patterns from his musical assessments of patterns and crowds – that’s the way I read Versatile Performance’s RP-reasons for the mechanical benefits.
Versatile Performance's really more of a skillpoint-saving feature, but there's a few ways to make it shine, and achieve what you want in flavour to be different from the Master Spy that is Tandro. I have to say, it was a nice option, and once I read it, really streamlined how I saw things potentially unfolding for both build and development of Charan.
Charan has to do so much with magic than Tandro can accomplish effortlessly with a simple skill check, any time, and with better and longer-lasting effect. For short periods, however, Charan can step up and help Tandro in his story, and that was exactly the goal.
I must also admit it was fun trying to make a weaponless bard be a good bodyguard (succeeded in protecting Tandro in social situation, failed horribly in protecting self tho - tsk), and the challenge of different PCs can be a riot. Really, those type of "ooo, hmm" queries really make you take second looks at classes, or trying different feat combinations.
The little puzzles, trying to be creative in keeping 1) in spirit, and 2) in mechanical, while achieving 3) need... Rubix Cube flashbacks. Nooooooo!
Hamble's had some time of difficulty trying to assist Mobley's party (feel I've let that down, but man - 3K cap! Oi vey! Still trying, lads and lasses!) Cursed DM concerned with petty issues like “potential game balance” :p
Overall, I think the GM's simply being overly nice - but I love that too :)
GM:
Josep:
So you guys both have an inbuilt polygraph, right? I'll have to be careful what I think about...
As for PC v PC use of the social skills ... well, that's a hot topic for debate.
...
Here, Tandro offered himself up for a Sense Motive roll because the sight of Raisa's handwriting was a huge surprise for his PC and he rolled his own bluff just to see whether his PC would be able to hold it together.
Exactly. I would be hard-pressed to think of many times when I've used skills during PC:PC interaction without a consensual story-telling angle.
Josep Gavinho:
If Josep ever feel like others PCs are sensing his motive too hard, he'll just drop a couple of fireballs on the table. Mutually assured destruction and all.
"Don't look at me funny or I'll kill us both!"
Hee hee. No! Not the comfy chair! Anything but that!
Sadly Charan lacks his mutual annihilation defence… give me time. Lots, and lots of time.
*handwashes evilly*
I suppose he could sing some Achy Breaky Heart if you’re really mean to him, maybe?
