Heroes of the Haunted Highlands
Game System: Castles & Crusades (i.e., rules lite D&D)
Casting Details: Searching for a couple of new characters to round out the cast of an established game. New characters will begin at 5th level.
Theme: Exploration across a sparsely settled, wilderness frontier that was recently scoured by a massive orcish horde
Flavor: Pulpy, action-packed adventures in search of Gold and Glory!
Campaign Objective(s): Short, episodic adventures w/ no overarching metaplot
Posting Requirements: I will be aiming for a posting rate of one post every 1-2 days, with the realization that real-life takes precedence, and there will be periods where that rate slows down. My main concern is that players communicate planned absences so I know what's going on and can plan accordingly. I will make it a point to let players know when real-life circumstances will have me sidelined and expect the same level of courtesy from the players. Communication is key to the success of a PbP.
General Setting Information: The Haunted Highlands is a crumbling frontier realm in the aftermath of a massive Orc invasion. Most of the realm is ruined and/or populated by roving bands of marauding humanoids. Small pockets of civilization still exist here or there, but for the most part the land is dominated by wide tracts of dark wilderness.
The dominant human culture is reminiscent of ancient Greece, during the Dark Ages. Within the highlands, a barbaric native hunter-gatherer culture also exists (think: ancient Germanic/Slavic/Celtic peoples). There are also the marauding Northmen, aboard their dragon-prowed longboats (think: Vikings). In the distant east, rumors speak of a devil-worshipping people in a land of swirling sand and towering minarets (think: Arabian/Persian peoples). Somewhere beyond them, are the horse-riding savages on the endless steppes (think: Mongols). Bloodthirsty pirates plunder weakly-defended ships on the high seas to the west, their exotic cargoes bound for distant sprawling metropolises, redirected elsewhere. It's a dangerous world out there, to be sure.
Elves and Gnomes are very rare, the stuff of legend. Half-elves are slightly less rare, and most people who claim to have seen a True Elf, have actually only seen a Half-Elf. Dwarves are few in number and wanderers now, their homelands lost to some unspeakable tragedy that they would just as soon forget. Halflings are either agrarian simpletons, nestled away in their cozy hillocks or, a network of swindlers and con-men plying their nefarious trade in the big cities of the world.
Warring Orc tribes fight over the spoils of their recent bloody conquest, and not to be outdone, a Hobgoblin Horde rallies in the distant mountains, eager to make good on its shot at glory. And, if that were not enough, lots of other Monsters, some, whose names are unknown, prowl the countryside to keep things lively. What a great Age to be an adventurer!
