The year is 56 BC. While Roman legions under Julius Caesar rampage through Gaul, the kings and warlords of Britannia squabble amongst themselves.
In the southwest of this misty island at the edge of the world, the five major clans of the Dumnonian tribe rise in conflict against one another, each hoping to unite the tribe under their banner against the foreign menace that will inevitably stain their shores with blood.
But while the Celts of northwest Europe have never known a greater threat than the might of Rome, for the five warlords of the Dumnonians, it may well be enemies much closer to home that present the real danger...
Hi all. I'm looking for five experienced role-players to join me in a low-magic strategy-based "player vs. player" game, set in the historical setting of late Iron Age Cornwall/Devon (modern-day southwest England), with a liberal sprinkling of fantasy elements.
I am hoping to enlist a merry band of seasoned gamers who are capable of committing to the game, like to immerse themselves in story, and will be happy to engage in extended descriptive role-playing sequences. This game will likely focus as much on diplomacy, intrigue, and realm management as it does on battle.
Each player will create a character in the role of a warlord of one of the five great Dumnonian noble clans, and will vie with all other players to claim the kingship of the entire tribe. As such, the setting will run like five parallel solo-campaigns that cross paths as the rulers interact with each other, and eventually eliminate each other from the game.
There's no rolling up new characters here for those who fall along the way - slain warlords are out of the game, and ultimately only one player will remain. As such, most of you will not go the distance, so come prepared to fight to your last breath and have no-one mourn your passing...
The system for realm-level play and mass battles is a modified version of the d20-system add-on "Fields of Blood". Familiarity with this sourcebook may be advantageous, but is not necessary, as the rules are designed to integrate easily into D&D 3.5e and will be explained to the players at the start of the game.
Mass battles will probably be fought in real time using roll20 (see roll20.net). I say "probably" because it may end up that finding mutually convenient times for three or more people to play out a battle in real time may be more trouble than it's worth!
If this sounds appealing, you can find RTJ information here:
