Wicked Spheres (Pathfinder campaign): players needed
So, as a result of the player attrition that is typical in PbP games, the games has lost several players; as a result, the four current players themselves requested that I look for a fifth player to round up the current team. I'm stating this to make it clear that whoever join will then be part of a group that specifically wanted them to join; I hope that knowing their future fellow players will be grateful for their presence will encourage people to participate.
While it should be clear enough what the game is about from the previous posts above, I'll reiterate a few points for clarity.
- This game will be running through the Way of the Wicked campaign, where the players are villains who set the conquest of the Kingdom of Talingarde, by way of destroying its Good-aligned state religion and the noble class that supports it. It is an evil campaign, and the players are supposed to be looking forward to raze a good kingdom to the ground.
- The game is in the (1st Edition) Pathfinder system. This means that, if something is Pathfinder compatible and I can access it online for free, I will (with one exception) at least consider allowing it in the game; villains are always weird and different from the world surrounding them, and thus even the most "out-there" character concept will not necessarily be excluded. Even if it is 3rd part or backported from 3e, that doesn't mean it will be automatically excluded (again, with one exception); I still might if I think it's too cheesy, but I will at least hear you out first. Of the current players, one is an Astomoi Mesmerist, another an Oread Hedgewitch, and a third a Symbiat/Incanter/Wizard multiclass teleportation specialist; so long as the concept is interesting and makes sense, I'll probably be happy to allow it, and even help in building it, if help is required.
- The game is being run under Epic 6 rules. This means that, once your characters reach 6th level, they'll start gaining feats at an accelerated rate, rather than gaining any more levels. This was done for worldbuilding purposes, mostly, but is obviously worth knowing.
- Finally, the game is being run under a strict "no Vancian Magic" rule (the one exception I spoke about above); the primary magic system is meant to be Spheres of Power, and I will happily allow any Sphere archetypes for Core classes or help convert a vancian casting class that has no archetypes into a Sphere-based caster, but vancian magic itself is just not a thing I want to deal with in the game. It's the one price I ask of players in exchange for allowing them to try and sell me on pretty much anything else they might want to play.
So that's the important bits about the game that were in the first few posts. New to this posts is the follow:
As the game has been going strong since August 2019, the new player would be joining while the adventure is already underway; currently, the other players are on a ship heading for their first big mission (sabotaging a military installation), so the new character will need to be stumbled upon by them (a shipwreck survivor would be the easy way to do it) and will need to have a very serious motivation to "want in" on their mission. Character concepts that work well within this context (ones that have a strong motivation to want to join the team and help in their villainous endeavors) will be preferred.
Currently, the group composition is focused on utility (teleporter, Hedgewitch) and support (Mesmerist, Bard); while the players were very clear in their request that they'd be happy with any sort of character concept and about not wanting to force any newcomer to fill any "missing role" but rather play what they like, it would obviously be easier for a newcomer to shine and have a niche for themselves if they focused on different specialties.
Most importantly, the players expressed their primary need being for somebody who is a good conversationalist, as the current makeup has two of the players (for RL reasons) less able to contribute to group conversation, while the other two tend to have very different opinions and thus create a somewhat repetitive back and forth. As such, any outspoken, chatty and curious character who would be able to contribute actively to discussions and make them more dynamic would be highly preferred and given precedence.
Also, while the details are in the House Rules thread in the game itself, I want to make it clear that I require a posting speed of at least one post every two days. More is obviously better but not necessary, and I can be very understanding and accommodating about real life problems getting in the way of posting if I'm notified about them in timely fashion. While I'm happy to take anybody who is a good and creative player, joining the game without the ability to keep up with that posting speed would waste everybody's time, so only ask to join if you're confident you'll be able to make the time for it. That's all I ask.
I really hope people are interested; I will give a full week (up until Friday 17 July) for anybody who wants to join to present their character, and will make my decision on who I'm letting in on the 18th. I look forward to hear from any who would like to play with us! :)
