Playtesters for OSR Homebrew: Become a Steampunk Warlock!
I'm seeking playtesters for an OSR homebrew built around the Labyrinth Lord chassis. I'm looking either for two players, or one player willing to run two characters. The highlights:
- Play in Zardow, a world that was poised to enter a scientific enlightenment... until someone discovered magic by trafficking with otherworldly daemons, threatening the very stability of the world.
- Humans are the only race, and the only classes allowed are fighters and thieves, but anyone can gain spells by making Faustian pacts with daemons.
- The unique daemonology magic system replaces traditional Vancian casting. No one is guaranteed a Cure Light Wounds or Magic Missile, but it's possible for even a level 1 character to seize terrible magical power.
- A world steeped in Scandinavian, Irish, Slavic and Germanic myth with a dedication to sandbox gameplay. GM railroads tend to break down when it's possible to get a Wish at level 1.
- Plunder dungeons with gunpowder weapons like pistols, muskets, and the room-clearing blunderbuss. The unique Pierce die mechanic is used to represent bullets trivializing metal armor, and turns a simple fight against skeletons or bandits into a game of high-stakes rocket tag.
- The unique Valor mechanic gives players an edge, letting them survive blows that would slay lesser heroes. Overuse of Valor leads to a risk of Maiming, however, and experienced adventurers on Zardow are easily identified by their missing limbs and gouged eyes.
Applicants should be aware that this is a playtest game, with rules in alpha being constantly rewritten. Players should be comfortable with this, along with starting and stopping of gameplay.
In your RTJ, let me know why you're interested in playing and what your background is with OSR games.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
