B2: Keep on the Borderlands

The world needs heroes - it always needs heroes.  In order to fill that need, the Academy of Heroes was founded, three centuries ago.  People of all ages and races come from far and wide to study there, hoping to write their name into legend.  Not just the Humans and Halflings of the Realm, but also Elves from the isle of Sulaine over the sea to the west, Dwarves from the Dwarfholds in the hills of the southeast, and even the occasional Dragonborn from the desert empire of Ta-senet.

You are one such hopeful.  You have finished your years of study, and the Academy has sent you out on your first official adventure: to Castellan's Keep, on the northern frontier, where raiders - orcs, goblins, kobolds, and more - have persistently plagued settlers and merchants for years, their depredations growing ever worse.  With the Guard unable to send troops, it falls to the Academy to send an adventuring company out to investigate and, if possible, cleanse the Caverns of Chaos once and for all!

You, and a band of fellow students who have done well together before (at least, in classroom conditions), have formed the Company named Ends, Inc., which has just arrived at Castellan's Keep ...

Keep on the Borderlands was the module that came with the Basic Dungeons & Dragons boxed set in the (very) early 1980s; it's where a lot of "old timers" first walked, torch in hand, into dark caves intent on doing battle with goblins, orcs, and skeletons to (hopefully) gather valuable treasure and XP.

The original was an old-school dungeon crawl, for lower-level characters (initially levels 1-3, though in 5E, I suspect it might take us to 4th or 5th level).

And, Goodman Games has published a book that includes an updated-for-Fifth-Edition treatment of B2.  And I've put my own spin on that.  The game has been going great, though not much time has passed.

Unfortunately, one of my players has had to drop out (Real Life takes priority), so I need a replacement, and can also make room for one more player (bringing the party to five).  The best outcome IMO would be for someone to take over the character - Ivellios Morthykes, the Half-elven Rogue - of the player who is dropping.  Not much characterization has occurred, so you'd be free to put your own stamp on the character.

But if you'd rather make your own, I understand entirely.

The current party includes:
  • Kenemon - Dragonborn Paladin
  • Montana James - Human Fighter
  • Mando Thornberry - Halfling Barbarian

As you can see, without Ivellios, the party lacks both a Rogue, and any sort of spellcaster (Paladins don't count, ha!).

The game has not progressed very far at all - the party is only just beginning their first foray into the Caverns, having stepped all of five feet inside.

B2: Keep on the Borderlands

Right, so I've received several inquiries, and have opened a discussion with the existing characters.  If anyone manages to get another RTJ in before, say, 7pm EST tonight (that's in just under 4 hours), I'll add you to the list of possibles.

Otherwise, thanks for your interest, and better luck next time.  :)
