In what we came to call Year Zero, a madman released a virus which had a world-wide death toll of about 40% of the population.  Every year since, the disease--dubbed a flu by the government--has returned and continued to winnow the population.

The game begins in Year Four (when the population stands at just above a quarter of current population) in a location in upstate NY.

Characters will be coming together to create their own community, rather than trying to fit into an existing community. Once that community starts to form, additional characters may join the community or try to create an alternate vision of community.

Setting is a near-future world, with a few technological differences noted in game.  Characters would have had normal occupations (and may have had hobbies that are useful) prior to the widespread deaths and disruption of civilization.
