The Nameless City

”Remote in the desert of Araby lies the nameless city, crumbling and inarticulate, its low walls nearly hidden by the sands of uncounted ages. It must have been thus before the first stones of Memphis were laid, and while the bricks of Babylon were yet unbaked. There is no legend so old as to give it a name, or to recall that it was ever alive; but it is told of in whispers around campfires and muttered about by grandams in the tents of sheiks so that all the tribes shun it without wholly knowing why. It was of this place that Abdul Alhazred the mad poet dreamed on the night before he sang his unexplained couplet: ‘That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.’

- H.P. Lovecraft, “The Nameless City”

George Landseer, the third Lord Stourton, is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on the archaeology of the Arabian Peninsula. Over the course of his storied career, one discovery eluded him: the location of lost Irem, the ancient City of Pillars, known by many simply as the Nameless City. It was Lord Stourton’s close friend and colleague, Professor Ahmed ibn Mikhay’el, a renowned Egyptian scholar, who finally solved the puzzle of Irem’s location, and who ventured into the desert to seek it out; the first to walk its haunted corridors in centuries. However, shortly after returning from his journey, the Professor ceased all communication with his family and peers, a silence that has lasted for decades.

Now, Lord Stourton has received a cryptic message from Ahmed ibn Mikhay’el, stating that it is time for him to return to the Nameless City. Fearing for his friend’s age and safety, Lord Stourton has assembled a group of accomplished explorers and experts on antiquity to accompany the Professor into the Rub’ al Khali, the forbidding desert known as the Empty Quarter, and find fabled Irem once more.

Those that walk the passageways of the Nameless City will learn that among the many mysteries that are buried within its ruins lies the secret of the fate of the entire world.

Nameless City, Nameless Terrors is a scenario for 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu role playing game. I’m in need of around five intrepid investigators who are willing to make the journey to the ancient metropolis of Irem.
