Hardboiled Noir Detective Thriller

The only good thing about sitting in your office in April is that you're not sitting in your office in July. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell Mother Nature.

An early heat wave has struck Los Angeles, April 18th, 1938, making you feel like a slow cooking pot roast. The only source of air comes from a rickety fan that sits on a file cabinet over your left shoulder--it may or may not run when you flick it on and when it does, like today, it's on the lazy side and barely spins at all. The suffocating air in your office is merely being pushed around, saying hello to all four corners of the room, one at a time. Leaving a window open only lets escaping mosquitos and flies in from the sauna outside, hoping for a drop of water or, as the case may be, an ounce of blood.

But then again, you've become used to losing a little blood. You're a sleuth.

Marinating in sweat, you begin making another highball, lots of ice, easy on the water, when the phone rings...

* * *

And thus begins our two-fisted, hardboiled noir detective yarn, a one-on-one game with you the player and me, the GM, slugging our way through bad guys, mobsters and molls, using the...

Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes game system. We'll be focusing on the Private Eye part, of course.  No experience with the system is necessary.  Easy to learn, easy to teach.

Hardboiled Noir Detective Thriller

Doll sat across my desk shooting Cupid's arrows at me with her big blue eyes. Unfortunately, my heart wasn't wearing any armor. I decided to take her case against what my instincts were screaming in my ears. I'd discover in no time that behind those beautiful bright eyes and alluring smile was a darkness, a poison deadlier than strychnine, and it was more than willing to take me down its doomed passages.

What's that?  You heard a BUMP? Really?

I'm not sayin' there was or wasn't a BUMP, but if there was, just ignore it.

You heard it again? No, that BUMP isn't comin' from the trunk of my car. What? Ya think I got someone tied up back there? Yer hearin' things, mac! Hey, watch it, don't come any closer.

Just get oughta here for yer own good, and stop payin' attention to every little BUMP ya hear, see? Or else the next BUMP ya hear just might be yer own. Know what I mean?
