[Exandria] It Begins and Ends in Storms
Every good adventure begins with a storm. This could be the thunderous storm outside of a king's keep as a new prince or princess is born. It could be a raging storm over black waves in between a continent that has settled down after a destructive war and another continent that is at the brink of a new one. It could be a storm of blades on a battlefield where you cannot tell friend from foe and everyone around you is crying, wheeping, and bleeding out in the soil. The storm can be something within yourself, like a burning passion for adventure or a hatred for the tyrant who raided your home. The storm could even be the Storm Lord himself as he gives his blessing to a new mortal who has sworn fealty to his cause. No matter how your story begins, a storm rages on, and only when it clears around you will you be measured by the impact of your deeds.

Exandria is a D&D setting created by the crew of Critical Role. There are currently two published campaign setting books set in this world---the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting and the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. While this game is set in the world of Exandria, it's not based on the stories from Critical Role. While I'm treating Campaign 1 as canon, Campaign 2 will not be since I want to avoid assumptions or overlap about the world based on what's currently going on in Critical Role. I enjoy the setting and want to run a story there, but I don't want to place restrictions upon stories we can tell together because the people on Critical Role are doing certain things in their game. You don't need to have seen Critical Role to join this game. You don't need both of the campaign setting books to join. While some rudimentary setting knowledge is good to have in order to better and more comfortably root yourself in the game's canon, I'm happy to work with more general concepts and help the player find a place in the canon as long as they are serious about wanting to join the game, seems like a good person, and is interested in a story- and character-driven narrative.

That last thing is important to point out. I want this to be a story- and character-driven game. I've never enjoyed long dungeon crawls or countless combat encounters. I enjoy games where more focus is placed on roleplay, narrative, and character interactions. When combat occurs, I want it to feel relevant and impactful. If you want a more traditional D&D experience driven by encounters and loot, then you will not enjoy this game. If you're interested in the kind of game I'm looking for, then I urge you to apply. What I'm looking for in players are people who are willing to invest some time and interest in creating a story together. That means that I'm looking for interesting character concepts and not simply blank slates. D&D games usually get a lot of applications, and the majority of them are just a sentence or two. Take your time to write a character concept that gives the character some connection to the world, some ambitions and dreams, as well as some wants and fears. I'm judging you by your application and it's easy to see when someone has put in actual effort and when someone has just tossed one together.

[Exandria] It Begins and Ends in Storms
I would like to express my interest! I am relatively new to 5e, and only peripherally familiar with Critical Role, but I love the feel of the game you are pitching. I had been participating in (and running a couple) PBPs in FFGs narrative Star Wars rpg, prior to the forum shutdown, so I have experience with the format. I actually enjoy the creative writing aspect of PBP, and very much prefer it to other virtual options.

At the moment, I am a bit burnt out from creating and submitting myriad characters on D&D Beyond, only for the games I was accepted into to fizzle after a few pages. I found myself spending more time developing my characters than I did playing them, and seeking entry into games I was not even that interested in, in hopes they might at least persist. Searching for other forums, hopefully with a more consistent and mature base, I found rpol (and am brand new here). I come from a distant 2e background (also AD&D and the boxed sets before), so I have basically been playing forever, and would love to join your game.

This ends my attempt to pitch myself to you as a player. I will think about what I would like to create and throw into the tempest. Expect a character concept submission later today or tomorrow, and thanks!

Im thinking about being a member of the Cobalt Soul. Would Expositor be a role my character could start with, add in my backstory? Or would that be considered an advanced role I would aspire to?

In reply to Edgehawk (msg # 3):

Hey, fellow applicant to the game :)

Just wanna mention, in case you don't know, but if you click the title of the game, it'll take you to the page for it where you can see the "Request Access" button in the upper right corner. that's usually where people prefer to get the applications sent, as it then goes directly as a private message to the DM.

This page is more meant for posts from the DM in the general Playes wanted list. From what I've seen, anyway.
