Masks: A New Generation in an alternate history setting
Time: The year is 2001 on an Earth where superpowered humans and stranger powers have changed history. World War Three came and went without a nuclear apocalypse, but many of the fires started by the super-tyrants known as the Warlords are still burning. An alien invasion was defeated, but its puppetmasters are still out there. The Cold War between the Western and Eastern Blocs has begun anew, bringing with it brinkmanship and overreach... but not everyone is resigned to that proposition.
Place: The Free State of New Atlantis is a miracle. Situated on an island that didn't exist twenty years ago, this futuristic city-state is meant to be humanity's last best hope. It is a sanctuary for those with nowhere else to go, a neutral ground where those who wish to fix the Earth can work in peace, an inspiration... and a target. Superheroes and supervillains alike have flocked there, whether out of sympathy with its ideals or to escape the greater government scrutiny on the Mainland (or for some other reason). This concentration offers some measure of safety, but it also poses a danger of its own.
Game: Masks: A New Generation, of course. The exact premise will be up to the players, but the basic assumption is that you are young, heroic-minded individuals with superpowers or other extraordinary abilities. Whether you were born there or moved there, you live in New Atlantis. Following an inciting incident, you have formed a team. Now you are part of this hopeful and fragile city's story, and its story is a part of yours...
Note: At the outset, I am looking to form a team of four to six characters. However, I am going to let any interested player into the subforum to discuss the game and make prospective characters. I think the game would benefit from the discussion. If I have more than six applicants (and currently I have two), I will have to choose between them for the initial team roster. However, any applicants who don't get selected would still get first dibs on joining the game when there is need for new recruits - whether due to attrition or some other circumstance. I might not actually do it any time soon, but neither will I rule out the possibility of adding another team later on. I would dearly love to see this universe grow.
