We've been playing BECMI (Mentzer) D&D, casually for several years now.  The player for our level 4 elf (Lanliss) has faded away, as sometimes happens, and we need someone to take him over.

There is some role-playing, and several of the characters are well-developed, but others aren't, and seem to mostly be there for the combat and loot.

We make it work.
