Setting/History

This story takes place in 649, in the nation of Caeli. It is a monarchy that has survived for over 500 years.

The Royal family joined with 'Sanctus Lux Lucis,' the Sun worshippers, often called ‘The Lux.’ Over the past 200 years ‘The Lux’ has guided the nation with prophecies and miracles. 80 years ago the Royal family relocated the capital and renamed their court in order to honor The Lux. 'The Sun Court' is a palace of unparalleled wealth and the center of the newly constructed capital. It was given the name ‘Fortis’ after King Leon, the Brave who was king while the city was christened.

The capital was still being constructed by the time our story begins. The construction boom provided jobs for anyone who was looking for one.

Yet at the same time there was another religion at play. 'The Luna Opus', ‘Moon Worker’ named thus because they are not worshippers or follower just workers believing in 'Divinus Umbra,' or Holy Shadow. They honor the Moon just by living their lives and recognizing that which is often overlooked as important. Sanitation engineers, bar maids and travelers are perfect examples, though often ignored, they play a crucial part in society and the economy. But just because they a job that the Moon considers honorable they do not automatically worship the Moon. They are free to worship any God they want. The Moon will still recognize them for their honest work.  The Luna Opus are strictly those that work in the Moon’s name on purpose and respect the little things in life. The little miracles that make life worth living: a pleasant dream, restful sleep, good food, sex and parenthood, all that is best in life.

While the Lux take root in the cities, the Luna meet in the wood.

It was not until the Luna Opus announced they had found a Messiah, a holy child to lead the Luna and champion the Divinus Umbra, that trouble started. The leaders of the Lux convinced the present king, King Samuel, that this declaration was an act of war, a trick to usurp their power and lead the people astray.

Our story begins the day the Royal Army tried to burn down the wood.

Re: Setting/History

Preface: In a short time we will all be in Nimbalus and after that we will be in Ddyfrha. So I'm going to post some information about Ddyfrha and general information about the island where we will be spending much of our time. I will also be allowing some players to start in Ddyfrha, before the rest of the players arrive.

Ddyfrha is the most fanatically powerful nation on Ziemia. While it is not the same militarily as Caeli or Danio, it has an unmatched navy, and it's trade ships have enormous monetary power. Unlike the other nations Ddyfrha is controlled, indirectly, by the people. Ddyfrha is an oligarchy, it is controlled by capitalism. Any shrewd swindler may become a powerful lord, if he plans well enough. To be powerful in in Ddyfrha you need money. That is all. You don't need to be noble, or Beorc or Laguz, you just need to be a good business man or woman. One famous High Lord of Ddyfrha was a woman who started out with a single brothel. But she soon spread her business to where ever sailors made port and spent money together. She became a small lord, then she expanded her business to include all the sale of almost all vices, in one way or another. She then became the first woman High Lord. Her name was Sabitha, the people loved her. They thought there was not a more clever woman in the world. She was clever and also very generous, her charities were well known. She started, building better public schools, believing it was the role of government to better the public. She built and trained a stronger Navy and seized control of the Western Isles. Sabitha had started as a dancer on the street, and had grown up to become the High Lord of all of Ddyfrha. She was the prime example of the success of capitalism. She took control of the Western Ilse, toward the end of her reign, 72 years before the start our story.

The Western Ilse had a native population of curious Frog Laguz. Their shaman king quickly accepted the terms of High Lord Sabitha, trading most of the islands in hopes of maintaining peace. The Western Ilse, now belong to Ddyfrha, but the Frog Laguz practice their religion in the swamps and jungles, acting as tour guides and servants to the settlers.

There is peace, but at the cost of a ridged class system. Merchants at the top, soldiers next, then all other Beorc and Laguz, last the Frog Laguz.

The current High Lord Kale Drake, has recognized Sebastian Guenotama as regional Lord of the Western Isles. Lord Sebastian, as he is called is shrewd and a gifted diplomat and negotiator. He started encouraging, the building of mansions, by the most wealthy merchants and traders on the Islands. Endorsing this lifestyle is good for Lord Sebastian because much of his wealth comes from construction and luxury items.

The Western Isles are a world of masters and servants. Full of political tension and social drama. The complexities of high society and the underlying world of the Frog Laguz. It is a different world from Caeli, stepping off the boat on the main island of Welaki is like stepping onto planet Welaki.
