Captain Yanoro does not watch anime *shakes head and grins*

A glomp is a sort of flying tackle/hug/gesture of welcome and affection.

...Or possibly Captain Yanoro just doesn't watch the right kind of anime for glomps...

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
Alas the last anime I saw, apart from anything studio ghibli (is that even anime??) was cowboy beebop or vampire hunter d years ago. It's not my area of expertise!
I thank you for your enlightenment on the meaning of glomp tho, feel I'm down with the kids again now!

*Hugs Stacey for calling her a kid*

Don't think I've been that in a while. ;)  Unless you count a refusal to grow up.

However, Cowboy Beebop is good and, since it was years ago, you probably saw the good version of Vampire Hunter D, not the remake. *shudders*
Ghibli is definitely anime but I'm generally not a huge fan of Miazaki so don't watch too much of their stuff.  I'm a Slayers/Dominion Tank Police kinda girl *grins*

I haven't seen Vampire Hunter D in probably 10 years if not longer.  I really need to watch it again.

No, Makani is playing Tang's second in command.  Madame Tang is the only one that the prospective clients know by sight...their representatives had to discuss the contract with her last night.  The story to explain Tang's whereabouts is that she fell down the stairs and broke her leg, and that's why Makani has stepped in to represent the Lady Ducklings.

Sorry it's been quiet on my front the past week.  My internet connection is intermittent to say the least, we had a power cut and it seems to have fried the router.  I'm reliably informed that BT are sending someone out to run 'diagnostics' tomorrow at some point - Currently I am expecting to be told that the router is fried... With any luck they will at least leave a new one.

I can sympathize.  In the past two months, I've had the flu, 2 colds, a sinus infection, and my inner ears have filled up with fluid that won't drain, so my hearing is at about 50% of normal and they may have to aspirate the fluid.  Yay.

Other than that, I've been fine.

Get well soon!
Ive been lucky enough to dodge most bugs so far this winter.

On another note, im going to be visiting the states for the first time ever next week  - a work trip to Seattle - am very much looking forward to it. Not sure how it will affect my posting rates - usually when I go away if I can get internet access I tend to turn to rpol to entertain myself when I miss home and post more frequently.

We're going to be wrapping up this chapter.  If anyone has anything they wanted to do before arrival at the slaver's convention, please post it now.

Everyone will get 2 plot points each, which I will post to your sheets when I close out the "Sacrifices" thread.  You can also be thinking if you want to make any character improvements when I close the thread.  Keep in mind that you will keep 6 plot points, and anything over that is transferred to advancement points.

I was going to do a final post for Chapter 5, but Burne's last post was perfect, so I'm going with that.  Burne, you get an extra plot point.

Speaking of plot points, I've updated your character sheets to reflect the end-of-chapter plot point additions.  Let me know if you want to make any advancements.

Chapter 6 will open up tomorrow.

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
Stacey,

At first your suggestion had me wondering about the plausibility of drugging the guy who is our map.  On second thought, from what we know of the medication, your idea should work just fine.   It may leave him a bit fuzzy, but other than that, why not?

Who has the extra "special sauce," for a refill  ...grinning...

Without knowing how close we are, we might not want to go through with that plan.  If we are only five minutes out from our destination, it could pose serious problems if he is under the influence of drugs.  We know from seeing it used during the first night that it will last for (what was it?) twenty minutes.  Maybe the phrase was used to describe them coming out of the agents rooms "like clockwork," or some such.  Either way, timing would be key.

You could always slip the idea to Makani, since she is walking around.

Probably too late to try drugging him now unless we're about to land. Although you could just ask him how far out we are and if there is a little time for privacy in the back? If he says there is time, then there is time.

Cole, we've missed you! Hope the kids are keeping you busy in a good way (i.e. demanding play time, rather than being ill or something).

Hi all, I just wanted to check in, let you all know I'm still around.
As I explained to Shan a little while back, I've had a rough few months, computer problems, health problems and a very sick cat who eventually had to be put to sleep.  I'm pretty much managing to get my head back in the game now though so hopefully Jin will break her silence...Not that there's much we can really say in front of our pilot.

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
Hi there, loyal players.  I apologize for neglecting the game for the past several weeks.  I've been afflicted with an incredible array of illnesses, some of which are have been my close companions for weeks, if not months (flu, colds, sinus infections, Eustacian tube infections causing partial deafness, etc.)  Combine that with some family issues, and I just haven't much felt like doing anything other than sleep in my spare time.  I know that several of you have been facing issues as well, and I hope everything gets resolved soon.  As for me, I expect my health to start improving, and with it, my posting in the game.  It still won't be as often as I'd like, but it will be oftener (I know, that's not a word).

I should have a post describing the arrival at the destination in a day or two.  You all have been amazingly patient, and I hope eventually to get back to our previous posting rate.

Thanks.

No worries about the posting rate.  Life must always be the priority, not an online artifice.  If we show each other the patience necessary to life's demands, than we build a camaraderie and friendship, rather than leave acquaintances at arms length.

First of all, Burne, here's hoping that you recover swiftly.

Secondly, this is turning into a much, MUCH longer break than I expected.  Since my last post, I've hosted a steady stream of relatives, been in a high speed traffic accident, and will be undergoing medical tests/procedures/treatment for various afflictions/problems (not associated with the accident).

Here's to you Shan, and the wishes for a speedy recover, and getting your life on track.

Personally, the surgery went great, and I was out of the hospital quickly, though perhaps a little too quickly.  I went back into the E.R. about 12 hours later with some complications that arose after getting home.    They got it all sorted out, and I am back on the recovery path once more.

Slow and steady will win this race, and more forward steps than backward ones means I am making progress!

Rather than continue with the uncertainty of what's happening, I'm going to officially suspend this game for an indefinite period of time.  I keep hoping that circumstances will resolve to allow me the time and energy to continue, but it doesn't seem to be happening.  When/if circumstances allow for me to continue the game in a regular and dependable manner, I will contact each of you to let you know.  I'll keep the the game board alive for a while with an occasional bump, so if you see a new post, that's probably what it will be.

Thanks for your interest and efforts in the game to this point, I really wish I could have continued the game to its conclusion.  Maybe that will ultimately occur...one can always hope.  I wish all of you the best.

And I *finally* have my computer back up and running... (A few months ago it started shutting itself off (as in killin power)  Seems the fan on the Power supply (My first guess)'s fan wasn't working any more and it was enough to put the computer into danger shut off mode.

Unfortunately I got talked into a MONDO CPU cooler.  It wasn't the cooler that caused more problems, but rather the removal of the old heat synch/fan... which had welded itself to the cpu... and messed up the legs when it came out... and I still needed a new power supply.

I turned her on yesterday... and after downloading 3 weeks of email... it was fine.

<sighs>

Anyway... I look fowared to the game's return, but ... whenever that time comes around.

Till then stay safe all!

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
The equation for a game with a couple thousand posts gives it months and months before even switching to inactive.   Roughly the minimum time for a game this size, with folks that stop in regularly (which is why I do) gives it a good year or so of inactivity before the need for bumps.

If it flags inactive there is still a LOT of time, but it's worth the bump!

How are things going for you Stacey?  Playing elsewhere?

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
So, open question:
What is it about Shans game that makes us (Burne,Stacey, makani, and Jin) log in to peek, years after we were caught drifting in space, to see (I guess?) if we'll ever bump in to a friendly moon?

For me, this was one of the first games I played, but also one of the first where I found the players to be more about the characters than 'winning', and the gm to be tough but fair.

Shan, if you are still out there id love to know of you have had similar interest or experiences in other games?

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
For me it was the premise that Shan had actually finished a game, which is almost unheard of here on RPOL.  Usually they just drift into nothingness (as this one has done for the last couple years).   The potential to be part of a game with a beginning middle and end is intriguing to say the very least.

Are you playing anywhere else?  (send me an rMail if you are, or you have anywhere you want to play).

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
Hi, folks!  Every now and then I check out RPoL to see what kind of games are being played, and to my surprise, this game showed that there were new posts!  It's nice to see that the old game is still remembered, even after all this time.

I hope everyone is doing well.  Is anyone involved in other Firefly/Serenity games?  I know that Margaret Weis Productions put out a new Firefly RPG manual, and from what I saw, I wasn't impressed.  MWP has always had a tendency (in my opinion) to "pad" their products so they can crank up the price, and this latest product seems to support it.  Fully 40% of the manual (about 145 pages) is devoted to converting EVERY Firefly TV episode into game terms, to show how events would have occurred/been resolved using the Firefly RPG.  I haven't checked to see if there are any games on RPoL that use the new system, nor have I checked out any of the other MWP products in the Firefly line (such as scenario books).  I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any experience with the new books.

Anyway, nice to hear that some of the old gang are still around.  Y'all take care.

Hi Shan,

Yeah, I saw some advertisements for the new system and had a similar experience to yours; I feel there is nothing truly new here.

If you ever come back around, let us know.  It would be good to play again.  This was a good group.

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
I've not seen the new system but am generally wary of anything done by MWP.  I've looked at joining a couple of other Serenity games but they have either fizzled or, in one case, I just did not gel with the GM during the rtj/character gen process.

The games seem to start quickly, and then just as quickly fall into abandonment, leaving players seeking once more.

I believe that getting a "good fit" between the players and the GM is paramount to a long-lived campaign.

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
I've hardly been on rpol in the last couple of years - now have 2 kids (I dont know if I had any when we first started this game all those years ago!)

I also hooked up with a local group and tried my first bout of actual real life roleplaying! Mildy intimidating at first, but loads of fun. It taught me loads, especially that I'm less in to dice rolling then I thought I would be - its all about the story for me :)

Nice to hear from y'all!

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
You as well Stacey!

There is little that can compare to face-to-face roleplaying.

If you aren't into the *roll* as much, try some diceless games like Amber based on Roger Zelazny's books.  Great story telling!

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
Amber is a fantastic setting, character creation is done in a totally unique way as well.  The other great one for more role, less roll, is Fate/Fudge/varients thereof.  I'm in a face to face Dresden Files game at the moment and the dice only really come out in combat, the rest is trading of aspects and fate points to enrich the scene and negotiate just how much trouble we can get ourselves into or out of.

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
The trading of points concept I love.  It was one of the things that endeared the Cortex system to me.  In the games I play that use it we tend to set up the characters and rolls come out in combat (as you pointed out).  Beyond that it is more of points being traded.  I find it really helps to promote great role playing over lucky dice rolling.

I haven't tried the Fate gaming system yet.  Maybe when I find the right GM who is willing to do a bit of hand-holding I will.

Re: Puppet Theater II (OOC part 2)
I still live (finally).  Trying to keep up with another game but RL took over for a while.  Finally trying to get back into everything.  Otherwise for me role playing games involving being the Hulk while chasing the kiddos around the house.  Lots of fun but very tiring when four of the five decide they are also the Hulk and overpower you.

Glad to see that all is well with everyone else.

Hello, everybody!  Every now and then I check in on the old game to bask in the glory of days gone by.  It's nice to see that y'all seem to have the same notion.  I haven't GM'd any games since this one...I guess y'all spoiled me.  Nothing much else going on here, though.

Stacey, can you believe that your 4 year old was a mere twinkle in your eye when we were playing this game?  Who knows, we might have a multi-generational game one day with a father/child team as owners of a Firefly class mid-bulk freighter.

Hope you all continue to do well, and I'll check you later.
