Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

I'll throw my own kudos in!

The Force is an excellent GM, with years and years of PBP under his belt.  Recently he has begun 'pushing' his games to move more quickly by updating them regardless of character posts (because life goes on even if people stop doing stuff!), and I find it really helps keep things moving.  And he has a great sense of pacing as well.

I'm really glad to be in this group - I think, as Rhijans says, we have excellent chemistry together, and are good at playing off what each other (and the Force!) gives us.

As for the tactical part...I think the reason this works so well is that we don't actually do the 'tactics'.  We think we have a plan, then wing it as soon as things get out of control (which they always do).  And just have fun.

Hopefully everyone in this little group is sticking around, though we consistently need a new pilot...  O_o  Might also lose Haarmon to Alliance Command.

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

Pilots: I think I'm going to stick with NPCing pilots from now on.  A ship is a major resource, so it makes sense to have the pilot as an NPC, and it saves sudden changes of pilot half way through a mission - seems that lots of people want to make a smuggler/pilot type character, but the shiny wears off very quickly.

And I agree with Rhijans, you all deserve credit for the way that mission ran.  Unfortunately I can't spare the Credits, so you'll all have to make do with a few Character Points instead.  :)

And to clarify, the main thing with moving things along even if somebody hasn't posted is that it serves to keep me posting - too often in the past I've looked at a game and thought, "Crap!  I thought I posted there.  Now I have six games to update, and only an hour before bed time, and the parties have split up in three of thos games."  So now I have a timetable to make sure that I at least look at all my games a couple of times a week.

The "moving the plot along" thing is just a side benefit - if somebody doesn't do something, then opportunities may be missed: the guard patrol will eventually move closer, the king will eventually eat the poisoned donut, the house will eventually burn down.

Probably wise about the points.  Everyone wants to be Han Solo.  Nobody wants the responsibility.  :)

Points?  Any?

Yes, as mentioned above, everybody has some.  They're on your character sheet.

I think the trick with being a Pilot is making sure you have something fun to do when you're not on the ship. When I made Haarmon, I made him am obnoxious blowhard who was lousy at everything EXCEPT computers on purpose. So that, when he wasn't hacking, I'd still be enjoying myself.

Also, WOOT, Points!

I must have missed that... :(

Poot.  I don't have enough for a boost to both Control and First Aid.

.....

First Aid it is!  :D

I think I'm saving mine. I really want to up my Con and my Persuasion, as they're the skills I think Haarmon is going to start moving toward. But, no. Saving them up for something else.

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

I need to get Control and Sense up, but it's logical (and necessary!) for Shard to boost her first aid.  2d just isn't cutting it.  :(

If we get 4 more after next adventure, I'll boost both Control and Sense.  That'll give me 4d and 3d+2, at which point I'll start thinking about putting points into the accursed murder-toolthat thing I carry.

Can too! Can too! It says right here in this obscure sourcebook that I can!

What do you mean it doesn't count because I wrote it? Why is that relevant?

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

I debated saving mine...but I figure, with the way things went in the last mission, it didn't make sense to NOT spend points on Demolitions and Sensor Ops, seeing as those were the two things I did most.  I thought about bumping my Con, but I don't really feel like I pushed anything too far in that regard, except maybe the whole 'Move the vehicles out of the parking facility' point...otherwise, I was just bein' another mindless, faceless minion of the Emperor...*grin*  (And I didn't want to spend all my CP...nice to have a little something in reserve for those occasions when the dice don't agree with you on just how urgent it is that you accomplish a specific objective...)

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

You spend CP equivalent to the dice code of the skill you want to raise...like moving my Demolitions from 2D to 2D+1 cost 2 points.  Only thing I'm a little fuzzy on is, do you pay based on what the skill is now?  Or what it's becoming?  It only matters if your skill as at (X)d+2 and you're raising it to (X+1)d, but I don't remember if you pay X at that point, or X+1.  (I think we always did it based on what the skill was currently...but it's been long enough since I had to worry about that specific detail that I don't recall for sure, now.)

Since I didn't 'crest' any of my skills to X+1 this time, it didn't matter to me...*grin*

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

Thanks!

So I spent 4 points to upgrade my Droid Repair to 4D+2, and 3 points to gain Repulsorlift Ops at 3D+1.  Leaves me with 1 CP in the bank. ;)

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

I'm pretty sure you're correct about 'spending what it is currently' for Xd+2 --> (X+1)d, Rhijans.  It counts as purchasing another 'pip', and boosts up to the next dice.

That's pretty much why I boosted my First Aid - was something I used, and something that makes sense for Shard to work on.  And it really needs boosting.  I could say the same for Sense and Control, but my miserable failures on First Aid really bug me.  :)  Must get that up to 3d6 at some point in the future.

I'll also note that one can spend points on things like Weapons or armor.  Say, boosting one's flack vest up from +2 to 1d, or a particular heavy blaster pistol up to 5D+1 damage.  Etc.  Customization.

Have a safe trip, you.

Good to know about weapons.  I think at some point I'm gonna boost the damage on my Bowcaster.  Was always disappointed with those stats, even way back in the day...

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

*grin*  My solution was always to go out and acquire a better blaster (usually by stealing it from an Imperial garrison...)  Probably a hold-over from a friend's bad experience with jury-rigging his blaster to do more damage (he botched the roll...first time he tried to use it, the thing blew up in his hands and almost killed him...)

Granted, those were different rules (to the best of my knowledge) than the standard 'spend CP to improve your weapon'...but it just kinda lingered there in the back of my mind, y'know?

So far, so good...  :)

Yes, hot-shotting stuff can be dangerous depending on the rules system.  I'm okay with boosting stats of weapons with XP, because it's YOURS and it doesn't explode.  :D

I tend not to do it, but that's a play-style thing.

Re: A wretched hive of scum and villainy - OOC thread

Yeah, at some point, I might wanna up the damage on my bowcaster so that it hits like a heavy blaster pistol.  But for now, it'll work. :)

Too many skills to fill out for now.  Droid Repair and Repulsorlift Ops won't help me in combat, but I figured they were appropos for the mission completed!

Hey folks.

I'm in the middle of a move at my place of business, with a lot of complicated processes and a very narrow time window. And then there'll be a lot of catch up. I might be quiet until the end of next week. But I'm still here and I'll try to keep up.
