As for why the pilot would know...actually, that makes perfect sense to me. She probably got a rundown from Kourene of exactly who she was going to have aboard...for one thing, she needed to improvise a billet for us, she'd need to know how many beds (and what size).

Clearly she was told who to expect, and that list must have included a Wookiee and a droid, since she later asked,
"Where is your droid, by the way?"
She also appears to have been personally briefed by the Colonel (
"Lias tells me you're going to Carodol to make some sort of deal with Oomba. Buying friends out of slavery." - Lias would be Colonel Kourene's first name).
I remember when
Star Wars was all about how fast you could overheat your blaster's compression chamber... these days it's apparently all about paranoia and nasty suspicious minds. *shakes head*
