For those of you who are desperate for a Star Wars fix, and have a couple of hours to spare, I present a movie, set 94 years after the battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star...

Star Wars: Threads of Destiny

A full length fan movie, made in Sweden (English language!) and watchable for free on line.

Personal opinion - acting was a bit shaky, and the CGI sets were a rather overused, but the story was very Star Wars.  :)

Evil empire, treachery, Jedi, rescue the princess, blah blah...

*grin*  Shaky acting?  Isn't that some kind of a prerequisite for fan films?  I mean, most fans who can act well become actors and get paid...*laugh*

(This, coming from a guy who has helped write and create two Star Trek fan shorts and a Star Trek-inspired corporate April Fools announcement...but I'll have to check this one out when I have more time to sit and watch something...on my way to work right now.  I may have gotten into fan films doing Star Trek, but Star Wars has always been my 'first love' in the sci-fi world...)

Couldn't be worse than the prequels.  I know, everyone screams 'You ruined my childhood, Lucas!'  He didn't, not for me, but honestly, I watched the first prequel and it was just...bleah.  So I've never watched 'Episodes II and III'.

Episode II was a bad movie. I thought Episode III was a decent sci-fi movie. But only a mediocre (at best) Star Wars movie.

I also never think that anyone spoiled my childhood. I can still touch some of the wonder and magic that I felt when I saw Empire for the first time (it's one of my earliest memories)

Interestingly enough, one of my earlier memories is seeing Star Wars in the theatre with my Gram.  :)  Not my earliest, but well-back there!

Episode Three ended, in terms of pacing, intensity, and story engagement, where Episode One SHOULD have started.  I was discussing the prequels, and other Lucas projects, with a friend of mine a few months ago and came to the startling insight that Lucas is a fantastic collaborator...but on his own, he's actually not that good.  I've never seen THX-1138, so I can't speak for that, but American Graffiti is probably the only film he wrote, directed, and produced that wasn't a flop.  All the Star Wars films from the original trilogy either got reworked by writers, or had someone else directing, or someone else producing.  The Indiana Jones movies were collaborations.

Howard the Duck?  Lucas.  Red Tails?  Lucas.  What else has he done that's even been noteworthy?  It was kind of a shocking realization, because I'd considered him a 'favorite storyteller' since I was a kid...and realizing that he's actually not much of a storyteller (but is fantastic at helping someone else tell an incredible story) kind of shifted my world perception....)  You look at his filmography, and there are a LOT more misses than hits...and they're pretty big misses.  And the older he gets, the further apart the hits become.

I'm not really familiar with Lucas' movies beyond the Original Trilogy.  Interesting analysis on the subject.  :)  The filmography really doesn't sound terribly impressive, no.

I really need to see Frozen so I can understand this video, Force!  :D
