Part 16 - Unsolved mystery

The sound of air rushing over the junk-encrusted hull of Gundark's Dream fills the cargo hold with a low whistling sound, and announces to those inside that the ship is descending into the atmosphere of a planet.  Hopefully it's Mothessh and Karja has not decided to betray the rebels.

Given her strong connection to Colonel Kourene that seems unlikely.  But it wouldn't be the first time that the victims of treachery were surprised by it.

Which, of course, recalls to mind the Colonel's problem with somebody passing information to the Imperials.

The ship lands, and the cargo hatch rolls open, admitting the heat, the humidity, and the jungle stench which all point to this being Mothessh.  As if to confirm it, Karja's voice sounds over an address system in the hold.

"Right, we're there.  Everybody off, I have business on Erithe and I'd like to be getting on with it as soon as possible."

Beyond the hatch, the entrance to the base can be seen a short distance away...

Re: Part 16 - Unsolved mystery

The familiar sights (and smells) eased a tension that Rhijans hadn't really noticed he'd been carrying, though he still didn't fully relax.  "Right, then...step smartly, all, don't wander off the path because we're not sure what might reach out and grab you.  This way..."  He gestured with a jerk of his head and started down the ramp.

As he did, he pulled out his commlink, calling Kourene.  "Colonel, we're back, with our intended cargo intact.  Don't know what kind of security measures you want to take as far as limiting exposure to the base and personnel, but whatever you intend to do, it needs to happen quickly.  We're on our way to the front door..."

Juragga did his bit to act as friendly tour guide, at least insofar as it came to guiding the slaves off the ship.  He stood, he pointed, he growled.  That was about all he did.

But there was a gleam of pride in his eyes whenever he glanced at his teammates.

Haarmon still has his doubts about this whole end of the operation. But he'd been outvoted. And while normally he'd just assume that the big kids knew what they were doing. And maybe that was the case here.

It just didn't feel like it this time.

He stuck close to Juragga. The wookie's presence was comforting. "You make a good tour guide, Rags," he said, "Maybe you missed your calling, yeah?"

Re: Part 16 - Unsolved mystery

Shard slowly moves off the ship.  She wishes she felt as confident as Juragga and Rhijans.  Maybe it was the traitor, nestled in somewhere amidst the Rebels.  Maybe it was so many things going wrong with saving the former slaves until now.  Maybe it was just...the pressure.

Not just her life on the line, or that of her teammates, but the former slaves as well, all of them.

Either way it put tension in her gut, and one hand remained hidden in the sleeve of her robe.  She'd use the cursed murderstick if she had to, now, to protect these people, and she wouldn't trust anything until she got them on transports heading home.

Rhijans has called up the Colonel, so she doesn't need to step in there.  Juragga and Haarmon are chatting, with the big fellow helping guide the former slaves - no help needed.  Lips thin, Shard shadows the large group, keeping an eye out for any possible issues.

Re: Part 16 - Unsolved mystery

Kourene's instructions are simple enough.  There are some unused storage bays just off from the main hanger, conveniently away from anything too sensitive.  They can be easily converted into temporary accommodations for the guests.  Only a single entrance, so keeping an eye on them should be easy enough.

"Drop them off and go get yourselves cleaned up, and something to eat, I'll send some people down to help them get settled in.  Debrief in an hour in my office.  Just for your information, we still have an ongoing security situation."

Re: Part 16 - Unsolved mystery

Rhijans nodded, to no one in particular, and answered, "Roger that..."

He put the commlink away, and turned to the ones leading the group down the ramp.  "Right this way.  I'm afraid our arrival is ahead of schedule, so your quarters aren't anywhere close to ready.  And they'll be a bit...spare...we didn't exactly anticipate or plan on so many people arriving unexpectedly.  But you'll be safe and secure and we'll get you on your way to wherever you're going to head from here as soon as we safely can."

It didn't escape him that his invitation could easily be transplanted into the mouth of a slaver trying to lure unsuspecting people into slave pens.  He hoped it wasn't something some of them had heard before...and he hoped that the generosity they'd shown thus far (if it could be called such) was enough to allay any suspicions that might be aroused.  The last thing they needed was a big scene in the hangar area that would call lots of attention to the new arrivals.

But, really, he was pushing the limits of his diplomacy as it was.  Which reminds me...  He looked around for the protocol droid.

"You-Why, can you pass that along to any of them that need translations?"  He stepped over to the droid and added, quietly, "And if you can do something to smooth off the rough edges of it...I'm no tour guide, and definitely no orator."  The droid had programming for that.  Theoretically.
