Re: Troupe-Style/ Circle-Style Play
Hmmmm

Well, I know that the different exalt types are not meant to be balanced per se. I just dont want the gap too big. Imagine playing a Dragon-Blood Monk that gets his arse handed to him by a Twilight with a single melee excellency. That would be bad. For the game as a whole.

BTW
Heres an example of what I was talking about to get the different characters

Oracles:
A forlorn Lunar, searching for her reincarnated First Age mate.
At the center of a bustling city, Wyld-taint slowly expands.
A stone that gives fleeting command over demonic powers.
A company of barbarian riders, serving a noble’s purpose.

List of Characters
1. Forlorn Lunar
2. Lunar's mate
3. City God
4. A Noble
5. Barbarian Leader
6. Barbarian
7. City Local
8. Mutant/ Wyld-addict
9. The current holder of the 'stone'
10. A former holder of the 'stone'

Re: Troupe-Style/ Circle-Style Play
Ah, I see.  (I know the feeling, being a DB in one game and a Lunar in an all Solars)

Well, in any case, I think those fixes work.  They're not game ruining, at least.

Cool :) Well, I guess we'll see who else is interested here, and then I'll resurrect a space to play in.

I qualify for either.  Is not my concern.

Charms Background
Question, for Alchemicals is the Charms background still a valid buy with exp after character creation. I was looking at the scroll of errata and realized that you could halve the cost of your first five charm buys by doing that.

Re: Charms Background
*blinks* There's a charms background?  I think I'm missing something...  If you're talking about using the artifact background to acquire charms then I'd say no, since that would effect all charm purchases, not just the first five - thus making their actual cost completely moot.  (You can take the same background multiple times).

It's probably worth noting that the ability to buy backgrounds with xp at all is only ever presented as a suggestion, not a hard-and-fast rule.

Re: Charms Background
Alchemicals can buy charms with background points at Char Gen.

I'm fairly sure this does not hold constant beyond char gen, but...if I ask, the worst that can happen is that someone tells me that I what I was sure of is right, right?

Re: Charms Background
If they can buy charms with background dots post-chargen, then charms cost them 3xp each always.  Why would you ever buy them any other way?  Following that line of though, why would they even write a different xp cost into the book?  I'm fairly certain that there's a line somewhere saying that you can't craft new alchemical charms as artifacts in-game either, which seems to support this viewpoint.

Re: Charms Background
True enough.  As always, gathering opinions helps us to alter our understanding and to complete a more proper knowledge.

Thanks.

Re: Charms Background
I guess Alchemicals would get their normal char-gen rules, but like the game says, we'd look as a group at how that will impact on our game. Does that make our stance any clearer?

In reply to Becca (msg #79):

I'm not convinced that the question was specific to your game ;)

Re: Charms Background
It was not.  I'm sure out friend is asking it in at least two or three forums to better gather information for answering his question.

In reply to Becca (msg #79):

It's not specific to our game. I'm just really confused and want to figure out an answer for general use.

And I want a more consistent one than my RL group has. Which as of earlier today has changed to calculus.

Re: Charms Background
I don't.  I might go pick it up two or three volumes in. My understanding is that it's going to be released piece meal, so I'll wait a bit so I can get more than a couple of chapters at a time.

I have it.  You can "subscribe" now, which gets you:

1) Each quarter as it is released
2) A free download of the "complete" pdf of all 4 pieces merged, once the last piece is out
3) A discount on the "print on demand" option.

It's also significantly cheaper than any other method of buying it, so I'd well recommend it.

It's cheaper?  I thought it was going to be the same price no matter what?  I might go look into it.

Re: Charms Background
Well it's $12.99 for the subscription and each part is $4.99.  You then get the completed PDF for free with the subscription once its out, plus a discount on print on demand - looks cheaper to me :)

I think I'll wait until it's all out... wouldn't have time (nor the need) to read it now anyway...
