The Posse Forms

1000 hours
Modnay, February 8th, 2094

After an hour, the band of Chosen refugees were all in Chance City, setting up their new homes. The building materials from Gage, would make assembling their shelter that much easier. Peter's truck and the townie's pickup had made transporting supplies a cinch. The water in the well was checked and came up clean, if brackish. The weapons and Milrats courtesy of the unsuspecting Doomsayers would keep them alive until they were well-established.

The motley group of travelers was assembled at the former drop-off point on the road south from Gage.

Now was the time to decide where they were going. At least Roadkill had to make St. Louis in a couple weeks to meet up with the Convoy or he'd wind up chasing them, which wasn't a real problem but at least a little bit of a hassle. Neither he nor Peter were technically getting paid for this gig, as the services they'd rendered to the community of Las Cruces on behalf of the Convoy was in exchange for the fuel, maintenance and spare parts. Still, this errand earned them a lot of goodwill from the higher-ups in the Convoy. If they wanted to pick up armed guards, they could do it and going rate was $20 a day. The Convoy would reimburse them for it.

Or, they could all go their separate way. Some could stay in Chance City, others could push on to Las Cruces, or further.

Re: The Posse Forms

Squinting against the sun Roadkill says, "Well folks, it's been real but I think it's time that I move on. I've got a rendezvous in St Louis that I need to make." He pauses for a moment to spit another black wad into the dry earth before continuing. "I don't know what plans the rest of you have, but The Convoy is always looking for more people willing to help us reconnect the west. The pay is $20 a day in salvage though I can't pay you myself until we meet up with them. Truth be told I don't even know where my next tank of juice is comin' from, but that's the life we live these days. Whaddya say?"

"Sign me up, at least for one leg of the trip."  Jack did not elaborate as to why.

Re: The Posse Forms

Brother Edgar seems to consider this proposal for a moment.  He had grown to become quite fond of these Chance City Chosen.  They were good people, good friends.  But, there were dangers...

Returning his attention to the Driver, he responds, "I would like to accompany you as well, if you'll have me.  I have done what I can for these people."  He turns a meaningful look in the direction that the green-robed cultists were said to have driven off, "And it would be safer for them if I continued on.  Besides, there are others that might need to hear the Truth."

Re: The Posse Forms

"Sounds good," Roadkill says with an impassive nod. "The rest of you think it over and let me know. I'll be gettin' the truck ready."

Roadkill turns back to the truck and starts walking back to the cab. He catches the eye of Nix and jerks his head in the direction of the rig, giving him the universal sign of 'I need to talk to you in private over there'. Once the two men are standing on the far side he shows him the flyer and asks, "So what the hell is an Eye of Hiroshima and why are there five green robed doomsayers riding around looking to light you up like a nuclear 4th of July?" The words sound a bit like an accusation but there is a wry smirk on the road warrior's face.

In reply to Ian Roadkill Colby (msg #5):

Nix looked genuinely surprised at Roadkill's question. He'd heard in passing the Doomsayers were looking for someone. Not knowing who the Doomsayers were hadn't really understood the gravity of the situation and assumed they were hunting him for a different "legal entanglement".

"Uh... Doomsayers? Like Brother Edgar? I don't know any of them or why they'd be looking for me. I don't think I have this Eye thing they were talking about any more. I did at one time, but I think when I got busted in Truth or Consequences they stole it from my stuff, because I haven't seen it since."

He seemed sincere, but the young scavvie always seemed to be kind of holding his cards close to his chest.

"Look, we all know most Muties and especially Doomsayers are fucking crazy, anyways. No offence, Brother Edgar!"

He smiled at Edgar a little nervously. Like most Normies he'd only heard of the Virginia City Massacre and weren't really clear on the different kinds of Doomsayers. In fact, he was wondering if Brother Edgar would turn him in to his fellow Doomsayers to collect the reward or out of religious duty.

"If Peter's going, I'm in as well," replied Jane. "Beats hanging around here!"

She swatted at a fly in annoyance.

In reply to Ian Roadkill Colby (msg #5):

Rowan had taught the Chosen who were forming Chance City all the limited survival skills she knew. Although she could stay and help further with her medical knowledge, she needed to travel, keep telling her stories to new people and learn more about the world as she went along.

"That sounds good to me, I'd like to travel with you, too, Mr. Roadkill. Been a long time since I seen St. Louis myself!"

It would be good to be on the road again. It had been a while since she'd hired out
as a guard for a trader, but that wouldn't be a problem.

Re: The Posse Forms

The Colonel considered the offer for a short moment. He'd never been to St. Louis and it certaily beat returning to Texs at this time.

"Ja, I' coming with you as well. "

The payment would be well appreciated; just as well as any intelligence he#d be able to gather.
