In reply to Tech. Sgt. Airen Crichton (msg #312):

Azrael replied, "repair this? What, do I look like a bloody "purple trade" to you, jarhead? No, I got a guy, probably outta your league. Can do some amazing shit with a wrench and duct tape."

OOC: Not that Airen might know this (or maybe he does) the "purple trades" (trade = MOS, purple being their beret colour) in the Canadian Forces refers to the common pool of low-level service and technical personnel that are shared between all "elements" (branches like RCAF, RCN, Army). If you fix trucks for the Navy one week you might well find yourself fixing similar trucks for the RCAF or the Army the next. This pooling of technical personnel between all branches is due to the small size of the CF.

On cue, a hovercar pulled up. Misha and the Mayor got in and it pulled away. Hovercars were rare even before the war being mostly military GEVs or the smaller hoverbikes. This one looked cherry.

Tech. Sgt. Airen Crichton:
"Repairs? What's wrong with the "Big Rig"?" Airen says trying to be helpful. "Who has the sweet ride and where can I get one? Oh hey um Sheriff you do know how to repair that suit right? It's what I did with the military during the War." The sweet ride is the hoverbike and yeah he just insulted the power armor pilot.

Rowan looks at her friend in astonishment and shakes her head in disbelief.
Softly but with firmness in her voice, she says "it is not wise or polite to insult your host in his own home."
"Perticularly when he is better armed than you are"

looking at the Sheriff, "Sorry some of my friends have loose mouths and do not know when to keep them shut"

Once the sheriff has gone, she turns to Kurt, "shall we head over to the store and see what they have for trade?"

I worry about the functionality of your suit as it could get you killed. Merely looking out for you. Jarhead is fine I live to it Sheriff. As for your "purple trade" well he and I should swap some shop sometime." Airen is talking shop now and he knows that what he says is generally accurate.

"Ma'am I didn't mean it as an insult I just know the type. They beat it to heck and then bring it to people like me and expect it to work in 10 minutes. Plus He knows my type from his comment I'm betting. We hate that stuff. He isn't better armed just has better armor." He starts checking safeties on his weapons to make sure none of them came loose.

The Sheriff laughed. "believe whatever you like, and don't disrespect duct tape, Sergeant, it got Apollo 13 back from the moon in one piece! I can do maintenance but not modify it like Misha can. I don't think he was "circus" (service) battalion, if I'm not mistaken he was a sapper/assault engineer in his day. He's usually teaching at the college during the evening on weekdays but today being Sunday will be at home or Maxie's for brunch."

"I'm not armed at all right now, but when I carry it's usually a Rhienmetal M200 Vulcan MPSW." This was a lot of firepower but well worth it if you could afford the shitloads of 20mm ammo.

Rowan
"Then he should learn the wisdom of silence in the world."
"When to speak and when to remain silent."
"When to act and when to be still."

Rowan considers
"Kurt you are taught something similar in the military".
"The Wisdom of the Goddess teaches the same lesson in different words"
"This is the beginning of our creed"

quote:
'Hear now the word of the Wise, the secrets we hid in the night,'
'When dark was our destiny's pathway.'
'That now we bring forth in the light.'
'Mysterious Water and Fire.'
'The Earth and the wide-ranging Air.'
'By hidden Quintessence we know Them, and we will keep silent and dare.'
''The birth and rebirth of all Nature, the passing of Winter and Spring,'
'We share with the life Universal, rejoice in the Magical Ring.'

There is more to it as you can learn if you wish as we walk together."
"Come let us sit as we wait for the shops to open."
"And I will show you my trust."

Rowan find them somewhere to sit.
And gets out the book, laying her hands on the cover
Looking into the distance she says,

"Back before the war the government forgot the basic law of the constitution, and decreed that we witches were to be found and eliminated."
"Things got hidden and masked so only the one who knew the basic secrets might bring them forth"

Softly almost under Kurt's hearing level Rowan chants to her self

quote:
'And you who seek to know Me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not unless you know the Mystery: for if that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find it without.'

Kurt sat beside Rowan and listened to her without saying a word himself. He only nodded at certain points to show he listened and understood - or at least tried to.
After she kissed him, he put his arm around her to show her his support and love.
It was one of the many situations that he wished he was better with words, but he'd always been a doer, not a talker.
Thus he hoped that his actions showed what he thought, as he was unable to put his feelings into spoken language.

Re: Near Wichita

After the Funeral

Peter gave them all a lift back in his technical. TS Crichton asked around if anyone was injured, and although Roadkill looked near death it appeared to be a simple case of alcohol poisoning.

One surprise was that as they got ready to go, a swarthy muscular man with a long mustache, long hair, pockmarked Mesoamerican face dressed in a long black leather duster glided out of the crowd and climbed in back with them. He'd somehow been missed at the funeral, standing apart from the posse and fading into the crowd as he was a somewhat short fellow.

"Trejo," was all he offered by way of introduction. The name seemed to ring a bell and Crichton recognised it from somewhere. Rumour had it that a man by that name had punched Death himself in the face and lived. Trejo also looked personally familiar but had gone by another name in the past.

They drove back to the City Garage, where the rig and bikes were parked. Peter, Roadkill, Jane and Crichton continued on to the local Hospital where the newcomers were decontaminated, had their clothes cleaned and donated blood. Dr. Camille Kuznetsova (Misha's wife) examined his chest and she noted Rowan had expertly treated it already. Roadkill was given some aspirin and told to take it easy for a few days or so and he'd survive.

Later that Day

Airen did some light trading, picking up 7x Milrats for $80 at the local General Store (a former department store). Anyone else going shopping notices the wide range of common (and some uncommon) ammunition available.

The vehicles were fueled up with Ghost Juice, courtesy of the town.

Smoker worked on the trailer's rear doors, and with Airen's help it was quickly repaired. Some city mechanics showed up and proceeded to up-armour the tractor using welded-on sheet metal. They added a turbocharger for the diesel engine snazzy paint job to the semi and trailer.

Misha was unable to come by (he was working in "the lab" and was unable) but sent a piece of gear he'd been working on: an experimental auto-pilot module for the truck, roughly the size of a beer fridge. Airen immediately recognised it as fairly advanced Junker-tech and was able to successfully install it under the dashboard by cutting out part of the firewall and deploying the sensors by fashioning armoured periscopes in the long-nose's hood armour plating and attaching additional mirrors to cover the side views.

The Auto-Pilot had an actual AI ("Gilles") and he communicated verbally with the driver (microphone/speaker) or via a built-in radio transciever (5 mi. radius) as well as data jacks. The mechanics threw in some up-armouring for Peter's technical, too.

Right now, Peter and Roadkill (and their "crew", Smoker and Jane) were waiting in Near Wichita for a courier from the Convoy to deliver further instructions. Rowan had vowed to return Chance's sword to Boise (the group would get $500 to do this now, $500 when it's delivered) and Michaela was wanting to do the same with Arthur's sword. The Wasted West was very tough on Templars!

Accommodation was either in a clean motel in town ($30/day) or for free at the campsite near El Dorado lake (a couple blocks from City Hall/Garage). The campsite had free electricity for 6 hours a day, free running water (drinkable and cold) all the time.

Marshall's notes: Check here for modifications to the Posse vehicles (rig/technical). Probably they will both get an add to their AV, but I'll have to figure out weight. Probably an AV boost for both vehicles, engine fire extinguisher, supercharger and gas tank/wheel cover armour for the rig, a rear-facing pintle/gunshield mount for the van trailer's rear 2-man fighting position (no weapon installed), ram plates for both and "wire guides" for all bikes to deflect neck-wire. Performance might be altered due to weight.

Additional Note: Chance was an NPC Templar from Near Wichita who disappeared a week ago fighting the Anti-Bishop. He was part of Misha/Quinn/Azrael's posse and disappeared while on a recce in the ruins of Wichita. They were getting ready to go in after him when your posse showed up with his sword. This is why they're being generous.)

The Fusil-22 ($200) with 2x telescopic sight (removable, $200), 20x 5.45x39mm rounds ($20) and 2x mags ($50) they recovered from the Doomies would fetch $470 total in trade goods. (This was a fair price as far as she could tell.)

A fully-stocked paramedic bag like the one she currently had was available for $500. To replace the supplies she'd used from her own paramedic bag would be $10.

Re: Near Wichita

Peter listened to the others go on after giving his greeting. It wasn't that he wasn't happy to see them, but he didn't generally get very excited or happy-looking. He was a more than a little surprised at what seemed to be a very lovey-dovey relationship between Rowan and the german Colonel. Truthfully, it was more than a little odd and disturbing. The two just didn't seem anywhere close to a match. But then in the hell on earth that they were all living in, he supposed square pegs and round holes got together all the time.

"Thanks fer the welcome. We'll head to the hopsital soon."

It was a little weird but Peter figured what the heck. And donating blood? He hadn't heard of that since the bombs dropped!! He tried to hide the shock on his face but wasn't completely successful. He became lost in thought, ignoring the interaction about the powered armor suit and the "Sgt".

He DID perk up at the sight of the hovercar. His eyes roamed over it appreciately. If this place had the ability to keep a hovercar in good condition, let alone looking so good, they must have access to good parts and very high-quality equipment. All of which made Peter want to drool.

He drove the technical over to the hospital after dropping people where they wanted to go. He entered and took a shower, hesitantly at first as if he expected any moment to be jumped and dragged off. But after a few minutes he let himself enjoy it. And he did donate blood though he looked nervous the entire time and asked a lot of questions about where the blood went to and how long they had been doing this.

He was almost as nervous when the mechanics went to work on his technical. "Careful! Careful!" He kept hovering nearby and watching pensively until they were done. Once completed, he took a little test-drive to make sure everything still worked and to see how it handled with the additional armor weight.

Once alone with the Posse once moer. "This place is sure a lot weirder than it was last time I came through." He shook his head. "So. We wait on the courier...then...we all agreein' t'go t'Boise?"

Airen went with to the hospital and relished his first shower in months. He gave blood as that was a civic duty. He reflected on how normal Near Wichita was compared to rest of the Wasteland that the US and CS had become. When Peter was freaking about the mods to the technical he just ignored him. While Peter was test driving his ride he got a good look at Rowan's hover bike and saw that it needed some work. "Hey Smoker who's ride got shot up?" When he was told he waited for her to arrive to get permission to fix it. He had asked for the parts already and was going to fix it one way or another, but it was polite to ask first. He helped install the AI that Misha built. And sent a reply that read like a tech manual for a medkit(which it was). When Peter mentioned Boise Airen looked at him and nodded.
