In reply to Peter Firecrow (msg # 608):

The technical lurched forward as Peter hit the gas. Sullivan was already going to tell him to move up, but it looks like he already had the right idea.

When they lurched to a stop just past the front of the rig, Sullivan vaulted over the side, and followed Smoker, heading for the cabin's front door.

Barb struggled to sit up, blood soaking her left side. Bullets whizzed by but she raised a hand towards Modeen, palm out. With a crackle a bright green bolt shot out, striking the target. She grunted, "uh! Have an Atomic Blast, ass-hat!"

Re: The Destroyer

Jason sees the Destroyer's axe coming down and does the last thing that a sane person would do. He stands his ground. He brings Aiken's saber up to parry the blow hoping the damned weapon will mess with Modeen's mojo. Besides the Squire knows it was meant to come down to the two of them. No choice really. A Squire against the biggest Fallen Templar ever. Talk about long odds. "If I die get this sword shoved into him."

Using hole card from last round to Parry.

Assuming I survive the attempt I hole this round's card.

Re: The Destroyer

In the western part of the orchard, four of the advancing Destroyers were either hit or down. Schaeffer pulled another couple headshots on the remaining four, taking that group out of the fight as the two surviving bikers tried to become one with the earth. He could have easily picked off the survivors but that wouldn't probably be necessary. He changed magazines (swapping a mostly-empty one for a full one in a "tactical reload") and prepared to relocate to where he could engage more targets.

Despite the bullets whizzing by then, Rowan and Barb used their arcane abilities to attack Modeen. Both Rowan's flaming skull and Barb's green bolt struck Modeen, but neither seemed to affect him. Trejo's words about Modeen being invulnerable to attacks, other than Aiken's sword came back to them. It was true. They could not hurt him.  Rowan ducked down and none of the incoming fire hit her.

Jamming the gas pedal down, Peter drove forward so that the technical cleared the now-burinng front of the rig, flames licking out from underneath. Roadkill was nowhere in sight, perhaps he was somewhere on the far side? When he stopped, Sullivan hopped out and joined Smoker as they entered the house behind Daphne.

Once stopped, Peter and Jane could clearly see the four Destroyers that were shooting at Barb and Rowan. Peter reached across and grabbed the MG mounted on the passenger side of the cab, while Jane swung the massive Ma-Deuce around. Machinegun fire hammered out, scything through the three biker rightmost bikers, leaving just one standing.

Inside the house, Smoker and Sullivan saw Daphne using her rifle to block the savage downswing of a battle-axe wielded by a long-haired Destroyer. A second Destroyer was trying to hold her arms so the first could get in a solid hit. In the far right corner of the front living room were over a dozen hog-tied prisoners. "Help us!" cried one man. "Help her, then help us!" cried an older woman, possibly Daphne's aunt.

Ignoring the Atomic Blast and Eldritch Blast that struck him, Modeen advanced and started swinging his black axe, "Despair". Jason brought up the broken Confederate Cavalry sword and somehow parried, once, then twice in a clash of steel and spray of sparks! "What? How? That's Aiken's sword! No matter, it won't save you now."

Amazed at still being alive, Jason counter-attacked. He slipped past Modeen's defence and stabbed him directly in the chest. Black blood spurted out and the Anti-Templar screamed in pain and terror!

Inside the cab, Roadkill faded in and out of consciousness. He thought he heard Gilles' voice, faint as if far away. "Mon ami... you are dying. And so am I.... Save yourself. You must get up and live, it's not your time..."

Bleeding from a slash to her scalp, Daphne swung her M22 around and squeezed off a burst at the biker in front of her.

It was too difficult to aim properly and she missed her target. Unfortunately the shots didn't miss everyone completely, Smoker felt a pain in his right arm as a bullet struck him and penetrated his armoured duster.

Trejo knew he was wounded pretty bad, he could feel the blood flowing down his side and soaking his jeans.

Seeing that Modeen was staggered by Aiken's Sword, Trejo tried to press the advantage. Realising that he needed to make it as easy as possible for Jason to stab Modeen, and tough as possible for Modeen to defend or counter-attack.

"Get him, Jason! I gotta... get this damn thing... away from him..."

Bending down, Trejo grabbed Modeen's battleaxe and hopped onto Modeen's bike, which was idling nearby. Stowing the axe in its side bracket and sheathing his machetes he grabbbed the handlbars, ready to take off! It was good he was holding onto the handlebars, has he felt woozy from blood loss.

Re: The Destroyer

As Jason was stabbing Modeen in the chest, he recognised real fear in the Anti-Templar's eyes. The Destroyer not only knew it was Aiken's sword, he recognised his doom.

Obviously stricken by Jason's strike, Modeen staggered backwards, Aiken's sword protruding from his chest. Grabbing it by the hilt he pulled it out and black fluid spurted out of the wound. Dropping the sword beside him he fell to his knees, then forward onto all fours. He panted, black blood spattering the bone-covered grass of the orchard. Looking up he saw Trejo mounting his own bike and he reached with one hand, grimacing in pain.

He then turned to Jason and gasped, "please... don't listen... to Simon's... lies... spare me..."

The Broken Sword of Julia Aiken at his feet. Modeen bleeding out and dying or at least seeming to. He was a damned fucking Servitor and that was the best he had. Must have still been a damned rookie Servitor. Did I really just take the Destroyer out in one god damned swing. Shit! All of these things and more pass through Jason's skull as he stands there for a few seconds looking around the battlefield.

Re: The Destroyer

Diving out of the way, Smoker avoided some of the bullets but two still managed to strike him. One hit his right leg  and another to his right arm  Smoker crumpled under the fusillade of fire, slammed into the wall.

Seeing Smoker go down, Sullivan snugged the butt of his M4 into his shoulder and double-tapped, shooting Smoker's attacker in the head. Blood sprayed and the biker flopped bonelessly backwards.

Outside, Jane could see the door of the burning rig open a little. She wasn't aware of anyone who could be inside, but now she thought about it she couldn't see Roadkill anywhere or recall him getting out of the cab. Rowan couldn't see anyone in particular that needed help, other than Trejo (who was bleeding profusely from a torso wound) but he was currently mounting up a motorcyle while carrying a huge black battleaxe.

Of the four bikers that were charging Barb and Rowan, three had gone down under Jane and Peter's brutal machinegun fire. The last surviving biker dropped down, and started crawling the other direction, into cover. He left his battleaxe behind, apparently deciding he didn't want to be an Anti-Templar any more. Barb stayed where she was, not eager to run across their line of fire to where Jason and Modeed were locked in combat (although both seemed to be on their knees at the moment).

Further afield, satisfied that the bikers in the western part of the orchard were no longer a threat (either gone to ground or trying to get away) Scheaffer slung his sniper rifle and displaced, moving towards the orchard itself. He kept his suppressed M4 carbine at low-ready as he moved forwards. He transmitted, "threat to west is neutralised, am moving up! How is Modeen? Are hostages released? Is Roadkill all right?"

Seeing a wounded Trejo trying to balance the battleaxe on Modeen's bike, Barb grabbed it and hopped on behind him. "You just ride, Trejo! I got the axe." "Fine. Hold on back there."

As Jane was holding her fire, Rowan ran over to the driver side door of Roadkill's truck. Flames were licking out from underneath, now more orange than greenish, and a whiter smoke began billowing out. Pulling open the door she saw Roadkill lying wounded on the floor underneath the steering column.

Re: The Destroyer

Rowan had moved over to the truck's driver side door. Inside, Roadkill lay on the floor of the truck. She grabbed him and started to drag him out, but with a final burst of strength he released the catch holding Gilles' processor unit under the dashboard and pulled it with him, trailing wires and smashed circuit boards.

With a twist of the throttle, Trejo roared off on Modeen's bike. Behind him sat Barb the Doomsayer, holding onto the wounded Templar and the Anti-Templar's battleaxe.

On his knees in front of Jason, Modeen looked up, beseechingly. "Don't follow Simon... he won't protect the weak like I do..."
