Re: The Destroyer

In reply to Smoker Nix (msg # 656):

It did not look like the truck was on fire (yet) but rather, the truck had crushed a motorcycle underneath it, then the grenade had detonated which set the bike's fuel tank, tyres and anything else flammable underneath the tractor's cab on fire. A couple of the truck tires were shredded by shrapnel, a few more had caught fire, but it didn't look like the fire had spread to the fuel tanks, undercarriage or engine. Yet.

The main problem was that a couple rims were warped and the entire wheel would need to be replaced. A couple more tyres were also gone. The truck could probably be fixed up enough to move in a couple hours by using the spare tyre and spare front wheel, and rotating the rear wheels.

All hostages seemed to be accounted for. A few were wounded, they would need poultices and other medical attention. Sullivan was nowhere to be seen.

Quickly shaking his head, to make sure it wasn't going to fall off. Roadkll answered Jason

"Last thing i saw was Modeen. We gotta search."

Roadkill looks around for any of his weapons or any other that may be strewn about.

"Keep it up smoker. I did it on purpose so you had something to do. You go that way Jas and i will check this way"

Roadkill heads towards the westerly direction that Schaeffer was covering. It seemed to Roadkill that something was likely in that direction and Roadkill felt a bit guilty that he was so weak that he spent so long "resting" in the cab of the rig. He felt usless and ashamed. The least he could do was find Ian and let the others stay out of harms way.

"Before you go running off let's find out where he was last. Smoker wasn't Ian with you? Which means the cabin. Did Ian make it? Shit." Jason says as he jogs a little ways towards the cabin. He walks as he gets closer keeping alert for possible trouble. The West was well covered by the Kraut. Behind the cabin was almost a dead drop so that meant the cabin was the only source of potential trouble. Sig out and chambered for combat operations.

Daphne chimed in, "I think he was in the house with Smoker? I don't remember, it was dark and confusing in there. One thing's for sure, I'm not sure not going back inside there!"

A muffled voice came from under the rig.

"Sullivan was with me in the hut, yes..."

There are a couple of clangs and a grunt.

"Roadkill, I'm gonna kill you if you do this again... drive more carefully in future, you hear?"

Roakill heard that Jason was probably in the hut so he turned back and followed Jason in. Not doing all the SWAT stuff but more standing there with his weapon ready.

Re: The Destroyer

The freed hostages started to gather the various pieces of dropped hardware and arm themselves. Mainly, there were NA M22 Assault Rifles and NA Commando SMGs, hunting rifles and pump-shotguns. There were a half-dozen battle axes, plus pistols of various calibres. There were a couple hand grenades.

Inside the house, Jason and Roadkill could see it had once been a luxury ranch-style cottage. The front room where the hostages had been kept was empty. In the kitchen was lots of fresh blood. On the floor lay Sullivan and the wanna-be Anti-Templar in a gore-soaked tangle. The axe looked to be half-buried in the Mountie's torso, but Sullivan had nailed his killer with his borrowed M4 before he bled out.

As well, the rear door (formerly nailed shut) had been broken open. What was possibly a last biker had made their escape. Further outside, they could hear the turbine of a hoverbike start up, from quite close by...

Re: The Destroyer

The hoverbike was parked on the far side of the fence, below the lip of Skeleton Butte. Neither Jane nor Roadkill had a direct line of sight to it.

Hitting the ground running, Roadkill reached the rear fence in time to see the hoverbike taking off down the hill, the last biker riding it hell bent for leather.  Swinging the Ma-Deuce around, Jane saw Roadkill discharge both barrels from the sawed off "trucker's friend" he drew from his drop-holster.

It looked like Roadkill got a piece of the fleeing biker, but he didn't stop as he piloted the hoverbike down the track into the darkness. Soon, all he could see was the bike's running lights disappearing into the blackness, hard to see through the trees and ragged brush.

Jane swore as she hit the truck and immediately followed it up with a "sorry".  She wasn't sorry that she swore but she was sorry that she hit the truck for she knew that Peter was as possessive about it as she was of her guns.

She finally got out of the truck and peered into the window at him.  "Over all it wasn't bad but didn't like to see some get away."

Roadkill did the only thing he could now that the guy had got away. He took the blood soaked axe of the anti-templar and hacked his head off for killing Ian. He grabbed the hair of the anti-templar and took it outside to start a pile.

"Decoration for the truck. Everyone fortify this place. Do it know! Or go!"

Roadkill went to the next anti-templar, same again, and the next, the next.

Instead, he got Daphne and Barb to help him with the hostages. There were no tools or materials available to repair or fortify the house, the group of Destroyers that left had taken those with them. Instead, they gathering what food and water to make some kind of meal.

Schaeffer rolled his sidecar down out of the trailer.

"I am sad to hear that, my love. It will be difficult to track on a dirt road, but not impossible. Even if it leaves no tire track it will still disturb the dust."

As he said that, rain began to patter down. "Scheisse! That's all we need. I agree with Roadkill, the house is the best shelter we haff available. I would suggest we return to Eden, the town we stayed in before, but it is too dark.

"The rig is not going anywhere right now, but it will make an acceptable guard post here in front of the house. I suggest moving the technical to the rear close to the edge but not too close, where it can cover the track up the rear of the butte. I will have a look at the attic crawl space for the house, see if I can set up an OP there."

Re: The Destroyer

Smoker figured that with a few hours work, he could swap some tires around, put on the spare wheels, and they could travel (slowly) by morning. The surviving motorcycles were gathered together, and the gear of the bikers salvaged and handed around.

There were something like 24 bikers all told, and over a dozen bikes survived the onslaught of the rampaging rig (most were Harleys but a few were offroad bikes).

The hostages were grateful for being rescued, and appreciated Sullivan's sacrifice. Aunt Angie, Roadkill's adoptive father's sister, thanked Roadkill and said it was good to see him after this time, but she seemed a little apprehensive. It was difficult to tell if this was due to the strains of captivity or else because Roadkill was piling the heads of dead bikers outside in the rain.

Once some kind of fire was going in the ranch house's fireplace for heat and cooking, Daphne said to everyone, "thank you all from the bottom of my heart for rescuing my family and the other hostages... that was a very brave thing to do. People just don't do things like that anymore, we're too busy looking out for ourselves to risk helping someone else out. I'm sorry about your friend, I'm just glad more of you didn't get hurt! Thanks to you, Rowan, for your help, I don't know how those poultices worked but they were a miracle!

"Thanks, Jason, for killing Modeen. I didn't know it could be done, even if Simon said it could. Guess we know. I'll thank Roadkill in a little while when he's not, er, busy with his collection."
