Jane's smile grew wider as she saw Peter's mouth open to say something but then shut.  "I'll stay by Peter and the technical tonight.  You guys can find me there if you need me.  Hopefully I will be dry by then."

"A fire would be nice to dry out, I'm soaked... as usual. Why cannot we live someplace the sun shines?" grumbled Smoker, scrambing down to investigate.

Re: The Destroyer

In reply to Smoker Nix (msg #32):

There's not much left of the destroyed trailer park.

Smoker and Jason find a parked trailer that's mostly intact and dry inside. It's been used as a camping area before. There's a fireplace in one end with a crude smoke hood, and a separate room for sleeping. Aside from a funky smell (nothing unusual) and considerable mold, it's as dry and comfortable or more than anywhere else.

It was now pitch dark due to the heavy rain. Everyone else had chosen a place to sack out. Jason started a fire, clothes were hung to dry. He settled in next to the fire. Peter and Jane were in the rear sleeping area and he wanted to give them some privacy. Smoker, Rowan and Sullivan were in the rear of the rig's trailer, which was dry if not particularly warm. Roadkill locked himself in the cab and retired to his bed in the sleeper compartment.

Jane grinned as she walked over to Peter.  I thought that you'd help dry me off.  You mean I have to do it all myself?  Besides you owe me a kiss if I remember right."

Jane stood there waiting.  A promise was a promise and this was one that she totally intended to collect on.

Re: The Destroyer

He held the towel out towards her but lengthwise in both hands as if to envelop her in it. He couldn't hold the expression any longer and started chuckling. "Ohhhh I wouldn't be mean enough to make you shiver yourself. Once you are dry, I'll reluctantly share my body heat with you." He smiled at her. "Now strip.....out of the wet clothes so we can get you dry." And maybe wet again. He held off the kiss deliberately while he made her get dry first.

In reply to Peter Firecrow (msg #36):

Over in the rig's sleeper cab, Roadkill slept, tortured by his own dream.

He awoke with a start, hearing some metallic scratching at the rig's passenger side door. The scratching continued as he got his wits about him.

In reply to Peter Firecrow (msg #36):

Torture works both ways and if Peter was going to make her wait to get dry she would make him wait too.  She slowly peeled out of the wet clothes and moved to hang them up to dry before returning to his arms for drying off and the promised kiss.

"You are so generous to share your body heat.  I'll take you up on that offer."  She grinned and during the night if (when) his nightmares returned she would try to pull him closer to give of her heat.  She had wanted to do this many times for she knew that he didn't sleep well and hoped that having her there would give him a couple more minutes.  She hoped more but then she had already had her miracle today and didn't want to strain any good karma points by asking for more.

Re: The Destroyer

In reply to Roadkill (msg #39):

Although the rain had slowed in the predawn hour, it hadn't stopped entirely. This served to muffle sounds more than a few feet away.

Nearby, in the double-wide trailer, Jason awoke to Roadkill's mumbled warning. Eyes closed, Trickster lay beside Rowan but pricked up his ears. Everyone else slept on, if uneasily.

Inside the sleeper, Roadkill realised it couldn't possibly be the shy semi-feral coyote that Rowan befriended when a hand reached through the side window shutter (which he'd locked as a matter of course) and slid  back the bolt on the passenger side door, unsecuring it.

Marshall's Note: Due to a host of factors the rig, like most, is secured by deadbolts, not mechanical or electronic key locks (which are rare after the Final War).

Roadkill and Jason need to make Quickness checks.

Rowan, Smoker, Sullivan, Jane and Peter can make Fair (TN 5) Cognition checks to be awake and aware enough to react next turn.

Re: The Destroyer

The hand looked human-enough in the darkness. As Roadkill checked his shotgun and decided what to do, the door opened and a bulky man-sized shape swarmed in. A foul smell washed over him, reeking of spoiled meat and decay.

He glimpsed some kind of large autocannon on its back, a gleam of surgical steel held in a rotting hand.

"Your penis and testicles... I neeeeeed them to be complete.... give them to me, pleeeeease....."

The horrifying patchwork figure looked like a man. Or the roughly-matched parts of several men stitched together in a surgical manner. Possibly a woman or two in there, somewhere.

Re: The Destroyer

Peter laughed and toweled Jane off, then gave her the promised kiss. He snuggled up to her as they slept....but as usual the sleep wasn't good. He hated his subconscious. It always fucked with him as hard as it could.

The beach again. The truck. But this was different. No bodies, bad guys or destroyed wrecks. He wasn't sure but he was fairly certain that he felt more creeped out by it being pleased than he did when it was angry. It had liked what he had said? Its urgings were too familiar to his own. He shuddered.

Waking up to banging from the area of the rig Jason starts to doze back off when he hears Roadkill yelling about a coyote. Damned coyotes always finding a way to survive off of nothing. One less stupid mongrel wouldn't hurt a damned thing. Standing up rather groggily Jason checks the P90c and flicks safety off flashlight on. And prepares to hunt varmint.

Roadkill thankful for having his gun already ready throws caution to the wind and fires both barrels at the hulking freak show he sees before him.

With his ears ringing and not giving a hoot about if the beast was standing or not, he went for the door trying to quickly get out of the truck.

Re: The Destroyer

Roadkill triggered both barrels into the thing. The explosion in the close space deafened him. Roadkill: -2 shot shells, weapon is now empty.

Both buckshot charges hit the target in the head, shredding its outer covering of skin and tissue on its face in a spray of hot steel. Exposing the steel underneath. Whatever it was rocked back, clearly affected by the buckshot, but not dead by any means.

At that point, however, Roadkill was struggling with the deadbolt and heavy driver side door, trying to get it open. Adrenaline pumping through his veins, he finally succeeded and shot the bolt back while shoving the door with all his might, almost falling into a fast-approaching Jason (carrying a compact SMG with flashlight attached). Ears ringing, Roadkill went to one knee in the mud while Jason skidded to a stop in front of him.

New Turn: Everyone is awake. Those who succeeded their previous Cognition Checks (I think that's only Peter, and maybe Smoker if he makes his roll) can function right away, those who didn't are still awake but must take an Action getting up. Remember, drawing a weapon takes an Action.
