Grunting in reply, Schaeffer drew his M4 and charged it. He crouched over to one side, away from the muzzle of the Ma-Deuce, and started firing bursts out the rear over the armoured tailgate. "It's going to be loud when that machinegun fires!"

Re: The Destroyer

Behind them, the wave of people swarmed towards the technical as the posse members on foot jumped in the back.

They glimpsed there was something definitely wrong about their pursuers... they were wounded, covered in blood, torn apart... like walking (or running) corpses, some covered in dirt, like they crawled their way out of the grave...

On they came, silent, ravenous... Most following the "fresh meat" visible in the back of the technical, a few starting to break ranks and head for the house.

Peter actually drove a bit closer to the "pack", wanting to try and pull them away from the house. "THAT'S ALL OF US! LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!"

In reply to Peter Firecrow (msg # 761):

It seemed to work. Suddenly, the entire crowd was sprinting after the technical as Peter led them away from the house. Trejo rode alongside as Barb hung on behind him.

The crowd of silently running figures was eerie enough, added to that was many seemed to be mangled or shot up to the point of death, although some of them seemed unmarked (if still pale and rotting).

The question now was: where did they want to go? Did they have a plan?

Marshall's Note: you can take your actions now! Peter is using 1 to drive.

Jane smiled as she manned her guns and waited to see if she'd have to use it.  She didn't believe in wasting ammo for you never knew when you'd find more.  Still she wasn't going to go down without a fight and if they got close enough she would shoot.

Riding beside the truck, Trejo looked over at Peter, then glanced over his shoulder.

"Good question, anyone else got something to say? If not, let's lead them off the hill, if we can. Some of them, at least! Maybe thin them out?"

Schaeffer unslung his M4 and braced it against the tailgate of the pickup.

"Shoot at them! Aim for the head, ya? We have to keep them distracted!"

He aimed and fired the suppressed carbine twice, hitting two of their pursuers in the head. Both stumbled and fell as the shell casings clattered into the truck bed.

Re: The Destroyer

The bike and technical soon ran out of orchard, and had to curve right. Sensing an opening, some of the pack ran to cut them off while the rest followed.

Inside the house, no one spoke or moved, or barely breathed. Roadkill and Jason couldn't see any of the undead outside any more. But, they could be hiding, lying in wait.

Just as they were getting swarmed, the burned-out orchard lit up with a red glare as a starshell exploded overhead. It threw the ghouls and their prey into stark relief, followed by an impressive amount of firepower from the entrance of the orchard as several large vehicles moved through, firing as they went.

The Convoy had arrived! Or at least a small but heavily-armed portion.

There were three Scout rigs, fast but heavily-armed and armoured tractors (minus trailers) escorted by a half-dozen technicals (pickups and vans armed mainly with SAW and heavy machineguns, 20mm light autocannons and, in one case, a recoilless rifle). The pack of ghouls were made short work of by a dozen sharpshooters shooting out the firing slits and top hatches. Maybe a couple escaped into the darkness.

Roadkill, Jason and the others in the house saw only a small part of this but heard the fusillade of gunfire and the blare of familiar trucker air horns announcing the arrival of the cavalry.

"Looks like the fire may have brought help people. Let me get someone on the radio. I want confirmation could be a trick. Doubt it, but better safe than sorry." Jason says to the survivors. "Smoker or Roadkill please come back. This is Ranger calling. Looking for confirmation that you are alive and well. As well as the fact that the gunfire is friendlies. Ranger out."

At the sound of the Convoy charging in, Roadkill pokes his head up and checks out what is going on.
"Hey what the hell"
As the constant blast of guns goes off, he drops to the floor, making sure his helper does the same and waves all the others to do similar.

Grabbing the radio as quickly as possible
"We are all good in here and it does sound very convoy. we will get back up if you give us the all clear. That sounded like a lot of gun fire out there."

Re: The Destroyer

the posse that were outside recognised one of the rigs that met them in Near Wichita to drop off the now-deceased Sgt. Sullivan. It belonged to a notable member of the Convoy, Jesse "Corndog" Hambro, leader of the Couriers (the Convoy's sort-of special operations team).

Over the CB channel came Corndog's reply, "this here's the Corndog, shit! I knew that wreck was Roadkill's Rig, lookin' a little better than usual, I might add. I think you should leave that there door off, better better ventilation, nodamene?" ("Know what I mean")

"Roadkill, come on back, if you're still alive."

Grunting, Shaeffer reloaded. "It seems these are friends, we haff seen them before, ya?" Trejo also stopped, and Barb got off a Nuke that fried a last few Walking Dead that refused to flee.

Roadkill shakes his head a bit and under his breath
"Oh goody, the great corndog himself is here"

"This is Roadkill, just relaxing in the house you can probably see. Once again you come in over gunned and over confident, guess you like to get everything over quickly, so i here."

There was a pause, and Corndog's voice betrayed a little annoyance.

"You'd think you'd show a little gratefulness, me comin' here to save your sorry ass. Well, come on out, it's safe here. We're here to take you to Boise, favour to Simon. Let's get a move on!"

Outside the house, heavily-armed mercenaries (Convoy guards) deployed. The men and women cleared out the last of the Walking Dead, using rifles, shotguns and SMGs.

Looking at them through the peepholes, Daphne asked Jason and Roadkill, "those are friends? Are things safe outside?"

Roadkill pokes his head out the door and then heads out. He walks in the direction of corndogs rig and when he sees him

"hahahaha, good to see you still got that sense of humour there!.."

Roadkill looks to see where Pete and the rest are and points towards them.

"Corndog is an ass, but he is a decent sort. I take it you have enough transport for all of us. We were gonna use the trailer but Roadkill needs a repair job on his rig. Which should be a lesson to ya. Don't try and bring a tank into a bike fight. Anyway I have one honored dead going back and one very dishonored dead going back." Jason says to Daphne and then starts talking to Corndog on the radio as he walks out to start directing ex-hostages.

Jane catches Peter's eye via the mirror and shakes her head at the banter she heard.  She still isn't comfortable the groups current situation so she remains on guard duty for a little while longer yet.
