In reply to Trejo (msg # 23):
Trejo is your typical taciturn badass. Jason was his squire, and now has been knighted by Simon as a fellow Templar.
Important combat rule change: In Deadlands and HoE, you can spend chips to avoid wounds. Due to the deadly nature of the Wasted West, you can't do this any more. So save an action to Dodge, and use cover!
Following is a summary of the campaign just since Trejo joined, including some of Trejo's history. I can't recall if Trejo, Jane and Crichton (all former Black Hats) served in the Combine together, I think they did. It also makes dramatic sense if they escaped the Combine together as well. Mention is made of "Junkers", these are the Wizard-Mechanics of the Wasted West.
(Of course, the player are probably familiar with the following. But it's a refresher and helps keep me orgainsed!)
- Before the war he was a member of the Mexican Federal Police. (A Federale.) Mexico was part of the South American Alliance, allied to the USA.
- Captured during the war, sent to the prison camp run Confederate general Throckmorton.
- Became a Black Hat in the Combine, before General Throckmorton turned evil. The Combine is a major bad guy faction, based in Denver CO. Very high tech.
- Escaped/defected from the Combine. (Jane is also an escaped Black Hat defector, I think they escaped Denver together.) As former Black Hats they can safely use Combine equipment, which is booby-trapped.
- Trejo squired under famed Templar Aaron McConnel until knighted by Simon at the Templar HQ in Boise. As a Templar, he knows a lot about the supernatural nature of the world and the conflict of the Reckoners, while many people still do not.
- Trejo's own Squire was Jason Sinclair, who was knighted after the last adventure when they killed the leader of the Anti-Templars, Brad Modeen.
- He met the posse in the ruins of Wichita. He was investigating the disappearance of another Templar, "Chance". Chance was captured and sacrificed a coven of undead Witches under "Selene", and their leader, the Anti-Bishop (a skeleton in Bishop's robes, and a minor Servitor of the Reckoners, the major supernatural baddies.)
- Trejo was captured, then rescued by the Posse before the Anti-Bishop could sacrifice him in the Cathedral of Bone in the ruins of Wichita.
- He escaped with Chance's sword (very important) and a powerful tome of white Magic spells usable by good Witches. The Posse's Templar, Arthur, died in the rescue and killing of the undead Coven and Anti-Bishop.
- He travelled with the Posse from the colony of Near Wichita to Boise and the main Temple. Travelling through Cheyenne the posse were ambushed by some Black Hats and Arthur's Squire Michaela was killed.
- The swords belonging to Arthur, Chance and Michaela were returned to the Temple in Boise. Michaela's body was returned and cremated according to Templar custom.
- Simon, the head of the order, asked the posse to help rescue a trade caravan that had been taken hostage by Modeen, a renegade Templar and now the Anti-Templar. Simon would do it but he had no Templars available and he himself seemed to be ill.
- Modeen had trapped and killed Trejo's own mentor, Aaron McConnel. He was carrying out an elaborate plan to lure Simon out of Boise to the Orchard of Blood on top of Skeleton Butte, kill him, white the rest of the gang destroyed Boise.
- The Posse helped destroy Modeen and his bike gang, the Desroyers. Jason, his Squire, landed the killing blow. Law Dog (and Mountie) Ian Sullivan lost his life. Roadkill almost lost his life. His robot autopilot, Gilles, also died. The simultaneous assault on Boise failed due to assistance of TS Aaron Crichton, USMC, a Junker, and the assistance of the Convoy, a good guy faction of post-apocalypse truckers.
- Upon returning, Jason was knighted after completing his Squirehood, he is now a Templar. The rest of the Posse are all now Companions, men-at-arms of the Templars. (Essentially, mercenaries.)
- The day after, someone in Boise was murdered by some kind of supernatural means, the killer passed unseen into camp and left no traces other than a mutilated corpse.
- While the murder was distressing, Trejo and the Posse was asked by Simon to transport him to an unknown destination to the north of Boise.
- Due to a driving accident caused by an inebriated Roadkill, the Posse's trucker, the Posse is delayed in the colony of New Ontario.
- Simon, still ill and prone to trances and visions, told Trejo to ask a drifter working at the local garage/truck stop, to join the Posse.
- Roadkill is staying behind in New Ontario to help a local Junker, Davey Blackfeather, fix his rig.
