Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

Coffee (pound) 20
Fresh fruit (piece) 5
Jerky (1 meal, 1 oz.) 1
Loaf of bread 10
Milrats (1 day’s food) 20
Soda (not DP) 50
Veggies (1 serving, fresh) 55

Here are the price from the book, I assume junkyard price are similar. Vundra kinda eat a "special" kind of ration though.

Yeah I suppose we should see about buying rations since we don't know how deep the journey will be in to the underground.

It says that MILRATs are actually worth 3 days each meal due to the high caloric content.

In reply to The Marshall (msg # 823):

I missed that Peter had NVGs. I was debating whether I should go with the real-life limitation that "low-light" devices will not work if it's "no-light"! But let's say these are "Gen V" devices that have an internal IR illumination source for indoors or complete blackout situations. As well, you also can't aim using the sights while wearing current NVGs but these are "future" models where that isn't an issue.

They are? Was that updated in the Wasted West or Waste Warriors books?

The information about Milrats are in the "Chow" section of the Wasted West companion.

"Milrats are also great. One of these
carbohydrate-loaded feedbags can satisfy a
waster for three full days."

My pleasure. As well, the factoids about NVGs (you can't aim while using them, they need some kind of light while underground) are applicable to other RPGs. (Soldiers using NVGs can only aim if they have an IR or regular laser targeting device mounted on their weapon.)

So the one mounted on Rowans weapon allows her to aim and fire?

In reply to Rowan Dawson (msg # 829):

Yes. The laser beam will show up nicely.

As well, your NVGs are fictional "Gen. V" sets, which allow you to aim using iron sights even if you don't have a laser. This is not possible using current Generation III technology but heck, it's the future!

You can of course also 'index' (i.e. point-shoot) instead of using sights.

Guess Smoker had better pick up some milrats too.

Yeah, basically firing from the hip is your only option!

As a word of caution, while this may not be the most deadly encounter imaginable it's possible PCs may be lost. There may even be a TPK, but I hope not! If PCs do die, I would be very happy if players were to continue on with new ones.

Remember that Jane suggested using some of the 200 that she didn't need towards getting food.

Let's say $50. In fact, most torches/flashlights are probably military-grade and can be clipped to your head, a helmet, a belt, clothing, webbing, LBV/E, etc.

If Jason does die I don't think I will be going anywhere. So long as I have an internet signal Tony I am staying put. I always have backup ideas. Next PC should be either a syker(favorite) or Mutant(another fav). Muties are fun for a few reasons. I might play a concept character that I threw together years back if I am allowed. As for a TPK I doubt that will happen. One or two of us might get iced that I can see.

In reply to Jason Sinclair (msg # 838):

Great to hear!

One thing to mention is that I have decided you can't spend chips to negate wounds. I felt that this didn't necessarily fit well into HoE, with a grimmer and more existential story where the bad guys basically have all but won, unlike the more heroic Deadlands. There are also far more Arcane character types and even normal people can avail themselves of body armour and so on. (As well, the mechanism was poorly implemented.) In fact this is how I've been doing this for years, it's just that no one noticed! So it hasn't been an issue until now, but if anyone is expecting the rules to work like they do in the book I don't want there to be any rude surprises!

Remember to seek cover and save a card up your sleeve to Dodge!

I probably won't disappear either.  I'll make another character if I die.  That will be different in the aspect that I took over Jane so it's not my character BUT it is MY character if that makes sense.  Duck.  Gotcha.  Now ... next question...ARE there places to duck?  LOL.

I can hear Jane now.  As she gasps for breath (yeah, make her suffer), she looks up at the group knowing this time she probably won't make it.  Looking at Peter and thinking "Don't go on the warpath against living darlin.  We gave it our best shot."  Then over at Trickster and Rowan and the others.  "It's been great and no regrets...well except this part."  Then her final breath (if Peter doesn't kiss her like in all good westerns) and words would be "Hell of a ride.  Escaped Black Hats to die in a <Jane looks around> sewer.  That's Livin."

Yes, one mark of a good RPer is to take over a character and make them your own. It's something you also learn and learn how to do quickly when RPing at a con or where the characters are pre-gens. Not everyone can or wants to do it and I appreciate that, but speaking personally I like it when the work is already done for me.
