Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

In reply to Kira 'Valkyrie' Herja (msg # 193):

It was a great movie, and one that required paying attention. Plus subtitles make multitasking difficult! Being a gamer geek I often process media and culture through that lens. For example, the woods guy seemed to be a Budoka (martial artist), and I could pick out weapons and weapons style.

The villain also gave me inspiration for the backstory of one of the PCs (a Ronin). Perhaps in the recent past his family was involved in defying a particularly wicked noble, and the noble's family has never forgiven them for disgracing one of their own. (I'm not sure if that would be a partial reason why the PC would be a noble in the first place...)

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

One of the great theories about the woodsman is that he's actually a forest goblin. The -first- thing he tells them is that he's not one, and then... Well... You saw what happened in the final battle. Would make a certain perverse amount of sense that he was really bluffing when they first met: "No, I'm tooooootally not a forest goblin!"

He's such a great damn character.

Also, I have to put a stampede of FLAMING OXEN in a game somewhere...

In reply to Kira 'Valkyrie' Herja (msg # 195):

I can totally +buy the "Forest Goblin" angle! My wife was impressed with the "flaming oxen" as well (if not the CGI). The game went well, it was more a chance to get used to the rules and set up the adventure ("Kwaidan").

I am glad to hear that I am not the only person who cannot watch a film or TV show or read a book without thinking about how I could use it in a game.

Um. I have a job interview tomorrow, not sure when I'll get online. If my turn comes round, would the Marshall take care of it for me... I've said what I intend to do.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

What makes it worse is that anything over a 20 Initiative roll is wasted; you can't get more than five cards.

Oy gevalt that's a nice roll! I'll give you a chip, just for rolling impressively high yet it being of no additional effect.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

In reply to Jane Guin (msg # 208):

As a rough guideline as to what is an action and what is not, movement in an of itself is not an action.

Movement is conducted at the same time as all your actions, if applicable. So it talking, at roughly a word or 2 per action. (For example, if you have 1 Action and post a long detailed plan I might decide to ask you to trim it back.)

Walking (moving your Pace in yards) generally has no negative modifiers (although you can't aim), if you run your Pace is doubled.

You can still spend Actions ("Pick up the Pace") to get some extra movement, which costs Wind.

Readying a weapon is an Action (unless using quickdraw), an attack is an Action (for firearms with an ROF of 2 or 3 you still make 1 roll but get an additional hit per raise). Anything that might require a skill or Attribute check is an Action. Reloading might be an Action or more, depending.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

I'm sorry- I think I may be a little confused. Card-wise, I don't act til way, way down the line. I need to state what I'm going to do, even though no one else has acted yet?

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

Yeah, I'm confused as well. We all rolled initiatives, but most have not yet acted upon them... and I was waiting for my turn, too, which is before Kira's.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

Hi posse,

The way we've done combat is everyone posts their turns when they like, actions are resolved in order of initiative. That way we don't have people waiting for each other to post. Hopefully, we can move things along. (I do notice I was wrong, both Smoker as well as Kira need to post.)

In reply to Smoker Nix (msg # 214):

In truth it would be more realistic to have people post in order of initiative. That way you the flow of initiative is better maintained. But that would require more coordination than I think is worth it!

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

In running play-by-post games I've always encouraged players to post as convenient for them, then do a summary post resolving the whole round. Otherwise the one person that needs to go first always decides to visit Ulan Baator without internet access at the critical moment!

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts III

Hi Posse,

If I don't get a post from Kira, she holds her action for the turn. While in a way it makes sense to hold off for her post due to her position in the turn order, due to the nature of PbP all actions I prefer all actions to be posted before resolving them.
