In reply to Tech. Sgt. Airen Crichton (msg # 607):
It's ok. Lots going on! Lots of rules to look up. I reworked the post a little to give better details.
First, good news. Damage is a straight pool, not just take highest, and dice do explode. So Crichton's shot ended up doing 71 damage. This would be absolute overkill for a human target (size 6) but the gator was size 12 so all damage was in effect halved. For those not familiar with the rules, Deadlands is an HP-less system that uses the same 5 Wound levels for all targets: Light, Heavy, Serious, Critical and Maimed. To get the Wound level, you divide damage by size, rounding down, and this is level of Wound you take. For example, Cannibal Jack's .30-30 caused 15 hits of damage. This would be enough to cause 2 Wound levels or a Heavy Wound to a human (size 6) but only 1 Wound Level, Light, to this beast. Causing five Wound levels of damage (Maimed) to the gator required 60 hits, and this is why it's important to properly count damage because Crichton's shot went from 38 to 71 (going from a Heavy Wound to a Maimed result).
Second, people need to remember to roll a d20 for hit location! A head shot gives you two bonus damage dice. I rolled a 19 for Crichton's shot (Upper Guts) but his attack roll allowed for an adjustment of +1 per raise (and he got a lot of those) so his 19 "shoulder" wound became a 20 head/neck wound. This only added 6 damage (I rolled another 2d20 for this) but a Maimed Wound result to the head is fatal. Which is what happened, 1 shot kill! Brother Edgar's shot was also a head shot and his damage went from 10, which is no wound (a glancing hit) on a size 12 target to at least a Light wound.
The gator also had 1 level of armour (AC1) which reduced the die code for damage dice. Most of the outgoing fire had some Armour Piercing (AP2) behind it so I ignored it for everyone although this would have reduced the damage for Bro Edgar, Cannibal Jack and Jane. (For example, Atomic Blast would go from 2d10 down to 2d8 due to 1 level of armour, .30-30 from 4d8 to 4d6.)

Atomic Blast. Left the roll in the roll thread. Can copy it over.
In the future, please do! The dice roller can get very complicated and crowded. I think it's important to roll for location for each hit. As long as you give me your damage I can adjust for AC and hit location, then roll for damage myself.
Sounds good?
Thanks!
Tony
